Changing the My Library folder results in endless loop

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When trying to change the folder that My Library points to (I changed it to Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Community), I get a dialog box counting up to 100%, then it flashes that it’s finished and need to restart msfs 2024…and then it immediately starts counting up again. I does this over and over and hasn’t stopped yet. It also created a “tmpmirror” folder with several folders under it…including a Community folder. The end result is that I still can only see some of my addon aircraft from 2020.

It looks like you’ve selected the wrong folder. Instead of choosing the Community subfolder directly, you should select the parent folder , which in your case is:

Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

You should not point to the Community folder itself, as MSFS 2024 will locate it automatically within the selected directory. Choosing the Community folder directly, it may result in MSFS creating a new Community folder inside the existing one.
Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Community\Community

So to repeat clearly: select the folder
Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
not
Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Community

EDIT
If for some reason you can’t change the folder directly within MSFS, follow these steps:

  • Close MSFS 2024
  • Open the file named Usercfg.opt – you’ll find it in:
    C:\Users\Yourusername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
  • Scroll to the last line of the file.
  • Edit that line so it looks like this:
    InstalledPackagesPath “Y:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024”

Save changes

Thanks! I got impatient and opted out of su3 last night because I saw no way to stop the endless loop…your head’s up about changing the .cfg file probably would have done it for me.

Back in SU2, I tried the same thing and found what you mentioned…I needed to choose the parent folder, not the community folder. Thankfully su2 works great in this regard, so I simply changed it to the parent folder, and all is well.

I’ll probably opt back into su3 this week; I do want to help make this a better sim and reporting on the fixes that Asobo is testing feels like a great way to do that!

I’m really glad to hear that my suggestion did the trick and everything is working now! If my tip helped you out, please consider marking it as the solution - this will make it easier for others with the same issue to find the answer more quickly.

I’m really glad you’re jumping back into SU3 helping community and Asobo test those fixes. It’s awesome to have community-minded folks like you these days.

BTW, I just wanted to say that I’m finally seeing a big step forward in the SU3 beta myself and that’s got me really excited.

I’ve been flying Microsoft sims since 1989, so I like to help in any way I can!

Have you had the disappearing input devices issue? If so, is that fixed already? I’m gonna wait to hop back into su3 beta until at least that is fixed; otherwise I literally can’t fly at all.

I had to go back to SU2 as well, because the latest SU3 beta kept looping even after I selected the correct folder.

@Jummivana

This issue is still present after 2 month of beta. This need to fix before the release

Seems to be fixed in 1.5.18.0. It kept looping for me in 17.0 but not before or since.

Nope, it’s doing it in 18.0 as well. It never did this for me before 17.0, and I made sure I was pointing it at the folder ABOVE Community, not Community itself.

Still does the looping after changing Usercfg.opt as well.

Edit: Actually I guess I may have been trying to edit the wrong usercfg.opt all this time, the 2020 one instead of the “Limitless” 2024 one. I checked the path again, edited the file, and all my Community content is back.

This bug still presents with 1.5.20

I finally opted back in to su3 a few days ago (1.5.19) and this was one of my first checks. Miraculously, it picked up the correct My Library folder…so I’m not gonna dare touch it.

We’ll see what happens when I start up tonight and am updated to 1.5.20.

Still Present with lastest beta build

Looks like with with this beta the Packages and therefore Community folder cannot be moved to a different location. When selecting a different folder there is a message that the Packages are being transferred over with a progress bar that reached 100%…but the process repeats over and over with no result!

Yeah it’s a bug. Open Your UserGfg.opt file, scroll to the bottom and enter the path where you want your packages installed. If there is a line that includes “on next reboot” delete it. Then restart the sim and all should be well.

This is how mine looks:

FYI, instead of choosing the Community subfolder directly, you should select the parent folder.

Also, delete line InstalledPackagesPathNextBoot

but need to fix because is a oblivious bug, BUT now is fix with the lastest beta version

I have the same issue as described above.

I literally last night started my long slog from FS2020 to FS2024, and also think I saw this same behavior, so following.
