Cheaper Upgrade to Premium / Deluxe packs

Would be happy to upgrade to Premium Delux etc, but I’m not paying $100 AUD plus to do it.

Any chance of a more reasonable price? Say $40-60 for the upgrade?

Ditto, casey3272. Seems crazy there is no simple upgrade path for such a big conglomerate, lots of money being left on the table.

The upgrade path is simple, it’s just not as cheap as you expect it.
But there is no reason to expect buying “DLCs” individually to be as cheap as a bundle if bought initially. That’s how all the gaming market works.
Also note that the deluxe/premium upgrade in marketplace is targeted on XBox GamePass subscribers and thus includes the fact that those players didn’t buy the standard edition at full price.
There are plenty existing threads where people complain about the pricing, so you should have rather participated there instead of opening yet another one.

But anyway, the aircraft in deluxe/premium currently are not worth the price in my opinion. The airports are okay, if you really need them, but you’re not missing out too much in my opinion.
As long as they don’t fix the deluxe/premium aircraft (or even open them up for modders which they seem to ignore), I’d discourage you from buying it anyhow - especially at those ingame marketplace prices.
Just my opinion of course…

I have been playing a game for many years that has an expansion about every 2 years. It also comes with 3 price points for various additional content bundles. Difference is, with them you only need to pay the difference if you later decide to upgrade further for the additional content. Voted yes.

Not really.

That’s the difference to what MSFS has.

Compare it with games that are sold as “Deluxe” right from the start with a “Season Pass” included. It will always be the cheaper option than buying the standard version and then buying all the DLCs that are included in the Season Pass as they are released.

Bundles are always cheaper than individual sales at the same time.

Simple example with another “Sim”, SnowRunner:
https://www.epicgames.com/store/de/product/snowrunner/home
Premium Edition costs 59,99€ and includes season pass.
Buying Standard Edition plus Season Pass (same content as Premium) costs 64,98€
Buying Standard Edition plus each Season Pass DLC individually (same content as Premium) costs 67,95€ (considering all DLCs will be released at the same price)

So buying DLCs/upgrades individually is ALWAYS more expensive than buying the “premium” package initially as bundle. That’s just common practice.

Well the game I’m talking about also has a monthly subscription on top of the releases. I don’t believe anyone is talking about pulling individual planes or airports. The bundles you speak of include the core content, which is the same in each version, and additional content for that version. The current price model would have the customer pay again for the core content.

That’s wrong. Bundles and Upgrade prices are always a mixed calculation (just like any game that is released taking into account the DLC sales already) so the standard edition is priced lower than it needs to be and the upgrades are priced higher, so that in total it sums up to what revenue is expected based on the anticipated user’s preferences and upgrade paths.

It’s all up to you if you want to pay the price or don’t.
You were all given the information of the bundle prices to buy the editions from the beginning but without knowing the upgrade prices (or even knowing them) you decided not to.
Saving money you accepted the risk of not being able to afford (or willing) to pay the upgrade.

Feel free to vote, but don’t expect MS to lower the prices just because you wish it to. That’s not how it works.

Not wrong. If you’ve already purchased a version, to say you are not paying again for the same content when purchasing the next level at full price is just nonsensical, especially when the vast amount of the content is exactly the same. It may be part of the pricing model, it may be plainly obvious at the time of purchase, but the fact does not change.

Besides, companies make pricing changes all the time, and changing to the model the OP asks would not negatively impact anyone else who bought whatever package on day one.

Also, The OP made a suggestion and others responded. Feel free to make your point but the lecture is not required. No one needs that.

Wasn’t intended as lecture. Just wanted to show that MS isn’t doing anything unexpected and to lower your expectations on what will happen.

I have no issues with MS lowering the price, but if you really want and can afford the upgrade, I don’t see a reason to wait since even during black week they just lowered the prices of a few landmark addons, nothing else.

And as I said above, in my opinion, the upgrade isn’t worth it at this point anyhow. I’d wait for Asobo to fix/complete the aircraft before throwing in more money.

I’ll not upgrade from standard until the aircraft are significantly improved and the price is much reduced.

It will probably be cheaper when it goes on sale which I believe will not happen until maybe a year from now. I bought the 60$ version and almost took the plunge to upgrade until I realize I am I spending a total of 145$ 25$ extra. Either way I don’t think I am missing out on much.

Why is the premium/deluxe upgrade so expensive? Before the game came out when it was available in the microsoft store the pricing for the full game + upgrade was 60 (no upgrade) / 90 (pr) / 120 (pr/dx). Ok that makes sense. There was an upgrade to premium for 30 and an upgrade to pr/dx for 60. Which makes perfect sense if you have the standard. BUT now its not available through ms store, only in-game and for some reason the prices are almost that of the entire full game. The premium upgrade is $80 where it used to be 30! The price of pr/dx to upgrade a pr is 95 (!!!) and the “bundle” of pr / dx is $85. This is OUTRAGEOUS. It’s more than the entire base game by a good margin for 10 airports/10 airplanes. Especially when it didn’t always cost this much. So that’s my wish. Bring it back down to the original price.

Since all of us early adopters are inadvertently now beta testers, the upgrades should be added free to every account. Then we can all test based on the same product. Not saying it because I am cheap, saying it because most of us did not sign up for this current Russian Roulette experience. We expected a stable product as the starting point.

Sorry, not only will that never happen, but nor should it!
I and many, many others bought the full fat version and such a policy would leave us
with nowhere to go!
Besides, unlike a very vocal minority, many more of us are perfectly happy with our lot and realistic enough to have the patience to allow the sim to mature.

Would that not be a little unfair to those people who originally bought the highest priced Premium Deluxe version?

Yeah I’m not asking for it for free, or even for less than the total price of what people who bought the $120 version paid. Just to bring it down to what it was before.

Ah. Got you.
Put like that it seems like a fair enough request to me.

And to be perfectly frank with you, whilst I did buy the full fat version, I chose to buy it through a [legitimate] third party web site thus saving myself a useful £20 less on the going rate.

Regards.

There is a great difference between allowing a product to mature, and releasing one that is incomplete to begin with.

Check what a single third party aircraft or airport costs. The cost of the upgrades are pretty fair considering what you get.

Also consider; the base price of the sim at 60 dollars is very cheap. If they had made the upgrades less expensive, the sim would most likely have cost a lot more.

also; the base sim is included in Gamepass. They need to have a business model to actually make some money back there as well.
