Well this is weird - it seems to be working as something is being downloaded constantly at a fairly consistent rate, but without any changes to the file being downloaded or the progress bar!
Mine says you have am update go to MS Store and get it, but store says report the problem , refresh the page and no matter which I do nothing happens. Now I have no MSFS since Thursday.
It doesn’t matter if the game is great when the installer doesn’t work. Try to have some perspective.
Are you saying you still can’t get past the update despite the hotfix?
Correct. These are not complaints about the size of the update, the installer literally doesn’t work in some cases.
I’m having the same problem. The game has been stuck on the “Checking for Updates” page for more than 20 minutes now. I completely reinstalled the game after SU5 and the community folder is empty. It was working fine yesterday. I have to say that the MS “X-Box App”, “MS store” system is a complete mess.
I had the same behavior from 1.17.3.0 (progress bar completes, then nothing, no menus ever appeared). With 1.18.14.0 I can finally get to the menus, but immediately get the Your packages are out of date error, which logging out and going back to the sign in screen only results in a different error, You are missing packages that are essential to run…" and no additional update check is performed. This either requires the app to be reinstalled, or by deleting one of the official package folders, the check for updates process will detect that missing folder, download, and let you back into the menus, but the data connection is disabled in General Options/Data, and when it is turned on again and applied, the packages out of date error reappears and disables the data connection.
Is anyone else having this issue? This has never happened to me before, I’ve been waiting forever at the checking for updates page. Sim update 5. Did it make anyone else sign out?

Edit: just got to main menu now where world map is. Think I will quit to desktop now. Server must be having problems. Had enough for tonight. Started the update at 16.00. Now 01.10. Will try again tomorrow.

I updated MSFS2020 from Microsoft Store, and after relaunched MSFS2020 and it goes from there..
I am having the same issue. I tried emptying my community folder and that didn’t help.
For me I can get past the ‘checking for updates’, but when I hit the Update button the program completely freezes. When I look at it in task manager its not utilizing any resources. I’m hoping I don’t need to uninstall the game.
i’m having the same issue. Hanging on the checking for updates screen. not frozen but just keeps circling around. FYI im on the steam version if that matters any.
