Hello.
The chicago area, imo, is lacking on photogrammetry scenery. It is very limited for such a major area of the country. Some bigger areas like NY and LA are more largely covered, as well as smaller cites like St Louis or nashville. Meaning the geographic mileage from /around the city is much further. As is the realism is curtailed heavily.
I took a screenshot and outlined the photo region for buildings. The rest is generic. Like my hometown west of ohare.
Am i doing something wrong? Ive submitted this to microsoft. Hoping 2024 gets an update of quality and size.
I agree the Photogrammetry isn’t that great, and the Bing maps underlying the region are probably a decade old, but I believe the photogrammetry region is much larger than what you indicate.
I went through Chicago recently fixing water over bridges and adding in missing towers. Pretty much the entire city is photogrammetry. It wasn’t until I got outside the city limits that I noticed the autogenerated terrain and the telltale sign when everything turns kind of green…
Yeah I hear ya. The perspective of the screenshot is challenging to fully see. But yes. The city itself and east of ohare is photogrammetry. But nothing west aside from a minuscule sliver. Not great.
We’d all love to have everything covered with PG but that’s just not feasible. Chicago actually has over 90 square miles of PG in MSFS, which is quite substantial. I think poor Dallas and Charlotte with no PG at all are a more pressing need than expanding around Chicago.

I came across this, it’s a mod for PC. someone made some photogrammetry in areas around Chicago. looks amazing. this is what should be in the base sim. and again advocating this for 2024. would love to see my hometown region be in-sim vs generic.
Agreed. Hoping when we load up 2020 or 2024, we see nice improvements. (i say both sims since they’ll apparently share the same world) So can see what’s new for free before buying fs2024 essentially
