I have begun work on my CJ4 cockpit starting with the FMS. This video is a test of the prototype prior to sending everything to the CNC and printers for the final components. The PCB is a custom design and only requires a USB-C for interface and backlighting. MobiFlight is used to interface with the sim and everything works perfectly. Should have the final production unit completed in the next 20-30 days and then its onto the autopilot panel.
Following. CJ4 is my go to airplane in the sim. I’ve done a poor man’s job of trying to get close to a CJ4 cockpit without actual custom hardware, so I can also fly other planes in the future. Honeycomb flight controls, built a cheap wooden center console to put the throttles on, and then mounted a touch screen on top for the CDU and lights panel, autopilot controls/PFD/MFD on the larger touch screen on the desk. Needs some wire management badly lol.
It is amazing today how many options there are to really tailor the flying experience in our home setups. I grew up flying and have been flying flight sim since the early 90’s. I flew the airliners for much of that time until I started working for a biz jet mfg. I fell in love with the CJ4 for its simplicity yet still retained the airliner systems like the Proline 21. From a homecockpit setup the costs could be kept down when your not dealing with an overhead panel and auto-throttles etc. She has the performance and the range for the time I have most evenings.
Once the FMS is complete things should move a lot quicker.
