CJ4 - Pilot View

I love the TBM930 with @mixMugz mod, but I feel it’s time to upgrade to something a little bigger. I’ve been eyeing out the CJ4 (with all the great work that the workingtitle group have done on it).Having “sat” in the cockpit a few times the first thing that strikes me is in the default PilotView, unlike the TBM or even Bonanza, I can’t see crucial instruments. Obviously a quick click of the POV hat and I’m looking down but during busy transition phases (esp take off and landing), it’s nice to be able to see out the window and see crucial instruments such as speed, without having to click the POV hat.

For you avid flyers of the CJ4, how do you get around this little problem?
1 - Track IR
2 - VR
3 - Just live with it, click the POV hat

I believe you can modify the default view. That said, I set custom views

You can use the “three balls”, that sit between the two windshields, to make sure that you are sat in the ideal position. If you are sat correctly, the small white ball aligns with the centre of the rightmost orange ball.

These appear to work in 2d as well as in VR and are designed IRL, for exactly this purpose.

For me, i tend to move my position just one click to the right of the default position, to centre my position on the chair and avoid so much “collision” with the side window when looking out of the side of the aircraft.

I’ve changed this line in the camera.cfg to achieve a realistic POV in the CJ4.
That way you have the outside and the vital instruments within your FOV plus a realistic cutoff angle.

[CAMERADEFINITION.0]
InitialXyz = 0, 0.45, 8.725
InitialPbh = -11, 0, 0

With care, you can position the pilot viewpoint to see out of the window and JUST see enough of the top of the PFD.

But VR fixes all that kind of nonsense :smile:

Thanks guys, I’ll modify my camera.cfg file.

Strongly suggest to add // after the new values and put the original values after the //.
That way you can test and modify easily.

E.g. InitialXyz = 0, 0.45, 8.725 // original values here

And/or save a copy of the camera.cfg.

I don’t think you have to modify a file. There are commands to modify the default Pilot view. IIRC

Hello,
Discussion of third-party aircraft goes in the Third Party Addons section. I have moved your post there.

is this an adjustment of “pilot” view? in other words the F10 key?

answered my own question… it is the pilot view. These are customizeable within the sim… but i will try your specific coordinates.

Do you know if it’s possible to set a “look down” angle too? I’ve been wanting a workaround for that for a while now, in general, but don’t know how to add that axis.

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but the
InitialPbh = -11, 0, 0
means -11° pitch.

Cool, I never made it below the top line. Yeah, I think if I can pitch the eyepoint down a bit, then I can get a good view of the panel AND windscreen on a few jets-especially the 747. Since there’s no way to do it in the menu, and I can’t get the binding to work right to make it the default view, this will help if it’s the case.

Thanks!

My advice here is to set up the view as you like it in the cockpit then store that as a custom view (left Ctrl + left Alt + number of your choice). These coordinates and the angles will be stored in installationdirectory/SimObjects/Airplanes/Asobo_CJ4/CAMERAS.CFG
Look up these settings in this file, now copy them to your actual CAMERAS.CFG file in the workingtitle mod.

Oh man that’s a great idea, thanks.

I can’t read the displays on this plane in VR… flying on monitor I just use the RAlt+click to get screens popped out… Doesn’t work for knobs and such, but allows me to keep critical PFD stuff in view at all times.

If you have the coin … VR VR VR all the way !
No matter what you fly, now you’re IN the cockpit rather than sitting at your desk. And even your partner turns into an annoying flight attendant, always coming into the cockpit … remember to lock that door people !

You can read the instruments in VR within leaning forward a lot?

I have WIDMOVR prescription lens adapters … and the ENTIRE COCKPIT IS CLEARLY IN FOCUS with just a slight turn of the head to look at the specific instrument, NO NEED TO LEAN IN AT ALL… They only require your long distance prescription and manufacture/delivery from Poland to Australia was less than 2 weeks. highly recommend them if you need long distance glasses.
