A hands on review by SimHangarFS
At 3:20 it looks like a ghost has seized the wheel
Im quite hyped about it, i really hope this will find a place in the market
Watching with interest. I would like a closer look at the software though. There is much mention of the C172 and that software will tell us a great deal about how useful the yoke really might be. There is also talk of user upgradability to more powerful motors, but the real value is being able to dial in the parameters for various speeds, configs, etc. Another thing that I would look hard at, is decreasing FFB and authority as the IAS comes down for stall, landings etc. You want to really feel it down to those last few knots, before you screw up again and crash. Or something like that
For those of us that have not yet bought a yoke this looks very interesting.
Was holding out for Honeycomb to rise from the ashes but for the extra$$$$ this may be the answer.
The size concerns me though.
I think the issues raised by magic 6420 are covered somewhat in the video.
Not that I have seen. I have used FFB for well over 20 years now and am looking for possibly my last major upgrade on this front. It has to be right and much as I enjoy Marks Youtube contributions am holding out for some thing more in depth from an experienced current user. Tue hardware is one thing, but the fidelity will come from the software.
The software is under development right now, if you have ideas , advices or questions, you can talk to the devs on their discord server, they are quite open and responsive for suggestions and questions
Yesterday after the video from mark was the point that the trim function shouldn’t do anything on the ground. An Hour later they fixed it with a new option that disabled this behavior, so right now they are working close together with the community and I think now is the right moment to contribute their work
Excellent! I am already midway through an email to them and have joined up on Discord. It might be something very good indeed. I wonder if they have some real life aviators on board?
I cant imagine Asobo dealing with FFB natively now or in the future, so that software is the key to everything in my estimation
There are some nice news on their discord
Another review video posted just a few hours ago. I think this yoke seems like a great deal for the money!
Sorry to be grumpy but, in IMHO I wouldn’t define a $800 device as “affordable”. And even less as “budget”.
Compared to other devices it’s a steal, compared to a gamepad it’s expensive. Its around 8 hours of GA flight time here , so still cheaper than the real ones.
Surely you can find more reasons to justify that an $800 device is an “affordable” purchase. As a seller you are priceless.
at least for me the reasons worked
A DIY isnt that much cheaper so I go for this and I really want FFB
With the future FFB support in FS2024, I expect more companies to offer more “affordable” solutions I prefer to wait patiently.
The purpose of this thread is the discussion of a new piece of equipment that is significantly cheaper in its market segment than currently available options. This is of interest to people who are interested in this specific type of equipment and have previously considered the more expensive options and they certainly will find the price point attractive.
I expect you will wait for a very long time then.
Indeed, you are right, I agree with you on those points 100%. But again, what I meant to say is that an $800 device cannot be defined as budget or affordable. And I say that because after 20 years using a FFB2 due the lack of a more valid option today, I’m waiting for a more affordable product too.
I hope not, we’ll see.
This yoke undercuts the cheapest alternative I am aware of by about 30%. It is hard to fathom how anyone could ever produce an all-metal FFB yoke for much less than this, especially given the limited market size for these devices compared to the much larger joystick market.
If you look at the technology required for a yoke like this, with over 13lbs of force and about 6.5" of travel range, you will see that it has nothing in common with the little vibrating plastic Sidewinder FFB2 other than the marketing word “force feedback”.
Don’t be trash talking my MS Sidewinder FFB 2.
It provided much fun in its day and good FFB.
And it was excellent.
I still have it and it is like new. Well built.
But I’m presently using a VKB Gladiator NXT EVO & FSM.
