Cockpit Dimensions for home Cockpit

I currently have a homebuilt cockpit panel that is Logitech based with a Logitech yoke and a monitor to display an aircraft 2D panel. I’m going to move on from that and I would like to build a completely custom cockpit instrument panel by adding my own Arduino based switches, dials, knobs and radio/nav displays. Not sure yet if I am going to emulate a G1000 or if I’m going to build a steam gauge panel with real instruments retrofitted with servos (I’m leaning towards the steam gauge panel, we’ll see).

My question is that I would like to build the panel with real world dimensions that I cannot seem to find online. I’m looking for the width and height of an instrument panel out of something like a 172 or Bonanza. I also need the height off of the floor the panel is mounted and any other dimensions that I can get, i.e. the glare shield. Anyone have any ideas for a document containing this information? Thanks in advance.

BTW, I looked into buying a parted out fuselage with doors and windows but I got the look from the wife. Besides, it wouldn’t fit in my office anyway, bummer. Desktop cockpit it is…

So, Classic! It doesn’t go with the furniture, silly boy!

Sorry, no dimensions to give you here.

I didn’t get too much flak when this showed up.
But if you cannot find digital dimension diagram, swing by your local FOB. Look for any open hangers or pilots milling about. They are a friendly bunch, but might be a little apprehensive until you talk to them. I’ve never had a problem talking to them. Take your tape measure with you.

I’m very jealous! Is that a work in progress or if not, how do the outside screens work? Did you post a post on it with pictures?

As for stopping by my local FBO, that is a great idea and is definitely something I want to do but I’m waiting until after I get the vaccine. Thanks.

So is there a doorway cut through the side of the house to get into it or what? Looks like you will need to build an edition on the house so you can fit monitors etc, on the outside windows!

Hello, I can give you a few pictures and drawings of my home cockpit if you like. I built this one last year. It consists of a 55 “TV and two 35” monitors on the side. The cell is made entirely of wood and covered with fabric or leather. I used the Airforce Playseat as seats. As instruments I used 4 iPads with different apps. I can equip the cockpit with a yoke, a joystick or a sidestick. So you can fly almost all planes. If interested, just let me know.

Lots of dimensional information here cessna 172 interior dimensions - Google Search

Best of luck!

I am interested in the drawings you mention because I am building a setup that involves a number of iPads and monitors and was just about to start cutting out the plywood.

Greeting Molar, I am looking at enclosing my home sim pit such as you did. I am curious about the monitor setup. How did you pair up a 55" with a 34" and get the same scale/zoom between the different size monitors. I have a 42" Samsung as the front screen and was thinking I had to get 2 more for the side.

Also, did you do one of the hacks where you remove the aircraft interior, leaving just the view outside? I’m curious how this works with the panes wings, doors, etc.

Thanks!

Check out this video. This gentleman shows how to match up different size monitors

Here’s a current Cessna 172 Analogue project someone else is doing, fully open source, uses many 3d printed parts but can be retrofitted with real avionics as it’s built to real scale.

He has many designs for parts and many dimensions here.
