COLD START ... such an immersion killer for the bush flyer

Hi everyone,

pretty sure the subject was brought few times … but seriously … I still cannot believe few years after the release that this is not an option yet.

I am a pure bush flyer, so I fly mostly 90% from land strip. I am SO tired of being forced to start the flight with the aircraft engine running because there is no parking.

Could we please have a checkbox of some sort in the options to always start the aircraft from a cold start … even when there is no parking. This is SUCH an immersion killer. I would understand if it was a big feature to develop, but it is not the case …

If there is a mod for this around, please let me know

The problem also exists for most water runways - no cold and dark gates. Personally, I have developed updated water runways to include such gates. This is what would need to be done for land airports too. Not sure if it can be done globally but it’s easy to create mods per airport.

An easy workaround for this is to use a free third-party recorder (SkyDolly or Flight Recorder).
Start with engine running, move to the place you want and set the plane in Cold&Dark conditions.
Now launch a record of a few seconds and save it.
Next time you’ll just have to replay it to go back to recorded status.
With a big advantage over a flight saved with MSFS function: you can modify season, time, weather and even the plane you want to fly !
Voilà, voilà…

Could’nt agree more. I fly in PNG and hate that you start in a remote place with the engines running. Surely a option can be made to do this.

if you’re using a custom plane, dig into the simobjects\Airplane{plane}\ folder, make a backup of runway.flt and copy apron.flt contents to runway.flt

Wow not much vote on this. I am pretty sure that the majority of people would appreciate this.

Some plane are easy to set back to cold and dark … but other are a pain to shut down.

mmmm interesting. I do have Skydolly so I will give it a try.

Nice workaround if you always fly from the same land strip.

It’s very fast to prepare in advance 6-8 different strips, and after a while you’ll have much more. I have about 50 places actually.
It’s also why I prefer using Flight Recorder for this purpose.
It’s interface for saving/loading records is the classic Windows one, with folders/subfolders/files wich is easier in this case than SkyDolly interface.
You can install both and even use them in the same time, they don’t interfere.
