I used the ingame ATC a few times for IFR and it worked quite okay but lately it does exactly that giving me vectors and higher in a 10 second span of fly and hold 8000, 9800, 11000, 8200 and so on. Also yesterday I flew from EDDF to LOWW and it gave me a approach that according to navigraph doesn’t even exist. So I was unable to comply and there fore got my atc service cancelled?!
I only use the ingame atc for training and familiarisations purposes when flying somewhere new before heading over to Vatsim again.
You have to do what ATC says unless it would knowingly cause an accident. They see things that you wouldn’t necessarily see such as organising traffic routes etc.
Flight level changes are also part of the fun. It stops you sitting back and grabbing that coffee.
This is not what everyone is talking about, and I know and use Vatsim, but the ingame atc is broken at best, giving you flight directions and changes faster then you can put them in the autopilot. Oh and did I mentioned that last time approaching LOWI atc gave me fl and vectors into a mountain.
Without saying that the ATC doesn’t know how to calculate either… (when you request FL increase or decrease for exemple).
Many times I’ve been told by ATC to change flight level when crossing airspace IRL. Not to the speed of FS2020, but frequently enough to question their reasoning.
As for the vectoring to a mountain, no excuses on FS2020. Could it be a terrain height reading issue from the code?
I think they should completely ditch the ATC apart from low level procedures like circuits, clearance, etc. Not one sim has ever got it 100% accurate to my knowledge.
Services like pilotedge should be available worldwide.
Simple answer to the topics question: money and time!
If that’s all you want, P3D is a thing.
Maybe we can ask Asobo to require a subscription to finance such a worldwide ATC service. I’ll vote for that.
Are you using Navigraph data in FS? If you don’t, discrepancies are normal. And if you are using Navigraph data then send Navigraph a bug report.
I don’t think you’d want that… PilotEdge currently cover a handful of airports in the Western US, with controlled airspace spanning only about one third of the continuous United States. And a subscription costs $329 yearly. I’ll leave it to you to try and imagine how much it would cost to cover all major airports in the world and all controlled airspace.
Yes it would be expensive, but even so, surely it would be a better option than the current ATC system?
I think it would be worth it
It would be prohibitively expensive.
If you want a better option, one that’s substantially cheaper, try VATSIM or IVAO. Sure, you have to hunt for online ATC, but people have been using these networks for ages.
Yeah but we’re talking about scrapping the current ATC system completely. If it’s VATSIM or nothing, then what happens when I want to fly a particular route and ATC is not available on VATSIM? You have to have something.
I don’t think anyone is suggesting that. Or, at least, they’re not suggesting it in the context of getting rid of offline ATC completely. You can always turn it off, if you want.
I would like to see the ATC system be exposed to the community. Look what great things people have managed to do with what they were allowed to fix.
I was specifically responding to @HURCN30 who was suggesting exactly that.
Yeah, telling you to climb to 12000 as your just about to land an ILS , ATC is havin a complete giggle…
You should go on tour, with funny jokes like that. Thanks for the chuckle.
Thing is with the communities that they are stict and unforgiving to new players. Advanced pilots and ATCs are eliticists to say the least.
I recently joined the FS 2020 after playing infinite flight for many years and although FS 2020 is better in every aspect, IF really shines with their ATC and server system. So having a system similar to that of IF would be nice to have in the game
Seems that after SU5, ATC reads aircraft alttitude 1000 ft less than actual flight level
