Controllers setup migration

I have many hotas devices and each has multiple button assignments. It took me all these years to carefully come up with the proper buttons assignments setup. Recreating these assignments manually in 2024 will be really problematic (I would probably need to open two versions of the sim at the same with the controller setup screen opened).

Will there be some kind of a migration tool or process in v. 2024 that would migrate the controllers setup from 2020?

Short answer: no.
Long answer: sorry, no. The configuration is completely different in 2024 and therefore everybody needs to remap from scratch. This has been confirmed in one of the videos.

I’m hoping muscle memory will kick in with this, and make it a bit easier, but yeah, I agree - across yoke, hotas and keyboard…that’s going to be fun.

Screenshots of all your settings pages is the safest way. This is why many users use external tools to manage and map controllers. Makes sim transitions a breeze.

To me it’s just one more reason to have both sims installed at the same time to allow you to more easily migrate controller bindings.

Yep, Spad and A&O should work mostly out of the box with 2024 as simconnect is still supported, though some variables are changing the basic API is not, and most used variables are also not changed

I’ll take screenshots of my MSFS 2020 TCA sidestick bindings so I can re-do them in MSFS 2024.

And of course my Xbox controller bindings on PC will have to be re-done too.

Yes, re-doing the bindings from scratch will take a bit of time but worth the effort.

Exactly, just Alt+Tab between the two and you’re done in no time.
There are two new features:

  • control setup per airplane for easy switching
  • Manufacturer default binding per peripheral per airplane

Nope, because FS24 does not store settings localy on PC/consoles, it stores them online

You keep posting this, but what makes you so certain it’s true?

In the Tech Alpha they specifically said there will be no ports, needs to be done over due to differences in how it’s stored on the back end. I doubt that’s changed.

Will there be default controller profiles for commonly used controllers in msfs 2024?
I did not read anything about that.

Jorg specifically said that in the first dedicated 2024 Q&A

I’m less concerned about having a means to migrate. Yes, it would have been nice.

My concern is how confusing, unclear and awkward the new controls management interface is.

Assigning the buttons and controls was pretty straightforward, but figuring out the means to copy those from aircraft to aircraft was not clear.

On the Tech Alpha I setup some controls for the 172 in Career Mode (the first thing I checked out), but when I went to fly the 172 in free flight, the controls were not mapped and it was unclear how to get them copied over.

There seemed to be no clarity on how you setup a sort of universal or baseline control scheme, which you’d use as a basis for the custom schemes for individual aircraft.

I really hope this confusion is rectified for the release.

It’s also my experience with the Alpha version of MSFS2024.
The interface from the 2020 version is more straight forward.
We will wait and see what Asobo brings us.

The FS 2020 control app as worked for my store MSFS version one year ago, but after an MSFS update some time ago, I permanently got an error saying "Multiple Settings Directories found“. May that is because MSFS is located in the normal app folder and in the Xbox app folder.

Is not compatible with MSFS2024. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I use an Xbox. I have my controller mapping assignments documented externally to MSFS. Hopefully, using that, I’ll be able set those up in MSFS 2024 relatively easily.

Yes there will be

In one of the Q&As they said you can backup your controls locally.
