Hi simmers, I have started working on the development of a Convair B58 Hustler. The initial model was created for FSX and then abandoned, but now I want to update it and increase quality and realism with the power of the new simulator. I hope that many simmers will enjoy this mighty and beautiful plane!
Just to start with something interesting, here is the main gear extension sequence.
Engineers put a lot of efforts onto this gears, because they had to fit a big structure with 8 wheels and a considerable height inside a pretty limited space.
This is the result.
It is worth noting that all the movements are controlled by only one actuator. All other parts move by a kinematics chain, really brilliant in my opinion (I mean the real thing!)
Some pictures of the B58 Hustler on its first ride on MSFS, compiled after some bug-fixing. Very few animated parts for now, but the initial sensation is… atomic!
Thanks.
The first pictures are with low resolution textures. Since I use vector-graphics I can scale up 2 or 4 times. Currently I am scaling them from 1024x1024 to 2048x2048.
Next pictures will be with 2K resolution textures, just to see if they look good, but I will then go up and scale to 4K, but only if it will be clear that the difference in quality is worth the possible frame rate loss.
Awesome. Not only have I always loved this plane, but my dad did some of the design work on it (he was one of the engineers working on the design of the pod system I believe), so there’s a personal connection, too.
Please add the - to the name before it’s too late - B-58 Hustler. A B58 is a Beech Baron. I was a bit confused…
Yes B58 can be confusing; I wrote Convair B58 that is a good hint… but better specify “the Hustler”, I don’t know if I can change the title of the thread, but I’ll try, thanks FlyingsCool5650
