COWS DA42 Released!

It’s still version 1.1.3 in FS 2024

1.1.4 for MSFS 2024 on Orbx

Yeah I have the store version

Then you’ll have to wait until 2025

I think if I had bought in in the MS store I would probably buy it again on ORBX as I couldn’t wait that long. Bargain at twice the price. Nice Christmas present too.

Ridiculous, what a half baked product…
(FS2024, not the DA42)

There are quite a few third-party marketplace aircraft that their developers have made updated for 2024 by now, and were already available on third-party platforms. Yet it seems to be too much work for Asobo to do some copy&paste on their streaming server, as they hadn’t moved a finger for any third-party marketplace addons since the release…

My guess is they are having a ‘wait until we improve our first-party content to an acceptable level before we deal with the third-party content’ mindset. So they might even refuse to update any third-party content provided to them for months still…

I guess they have their hands full following this bug fest of a release. Nothing to do about…

FS20 still exists and works perfectly fine

And this is still one of the very best planes in FS20

Every night after work, it’s a decision between the Fenix and the DA42, always a tough decision but I always make the right one  . Simply put, the best modern narrow body airliner and the BEST twin GA on the market.

That is all. :cat:

I noticed that when I peek under the glare shield when the interior lights are on, that even though there’s a Cyan/Turquoise/Teal/whatever glow on the instruments, the light itself was white. So I opened up the “IP_LIT.PNG.DDS” file in the main texture folder and gave the floodlight emissive texture a matching color.

Edit… Wow - this forum really butchers the quality of direct uploads…

Where is the control for this what appears to be a flood light? I’ve turned off all the interior lights I could.

That’s either one of the overhead cabin lights or you have the head flashlight turned on. There is a key binding for that.

I just checked in 2024 and the store version shows as 1.1.4 now!

Unfortunately I couldn’t get if off the ground because it acted like the parking brakes were on even when they were released.

Edit: Used this weird trick and it worked! Makes me worry for the sim and all its bugs, but at least I’m back in the air in my favourite plane!

Some other weirdness. After I landed, the plane got stuck again. Only this time, I could get it unstuck by cranking the throttle past 85. It was like the plane was stuck in mud. 85 would cause it to move a little like I was using 10 normally, but reducing throttle back to near 0 would stop the plane as if the brakes were on. I checked and double checked and triple checked that I had nothing bound to brakes and it still exhibited this behavior. After I landed if I was still rolling, the plane would accelerate and decelerate (and coast) like it did in 2020. But as soon as I stopped, it was as if the parking brake was on or the brakes were fully applied.

Since others are talking about this problem I don’t think it’s a DA42 problem, but rather a sim problem, but who knows. Here’s a video of it happening (I do not apply brakes at any point in this video).

Edit: After more investigation the 85% throttle thing is a red herring. Basically, the sim is acting like the brakes are on when they are off, and 85% on this plane just happens to be what it takes to overpower the brakes. It’s not a specific DA42 problem, the DA42 in my hands just happens to be a plane afflicted with this sim problem. If anyone has a solution I’d love to hear it.

Edit 2: I keep responding to my own posts but I fiddled around with it a bit more and wanted to offer the solution to anyone who might be in the same situation.

The sim was reading my neutral position on my brake axis as brakes applied, so I moved the neutral all the way over to -1 and now it works normally.

I couldn’t get the brakes to work at all eventhough they were working before (again not a DA42 problem). I have no idea what is going on with key and axis bindings, it seems like it randomly deletes or reassigns something every once in a while. This whole FS24 keybinding system is a pain in the behind. “Why make it simple, if we can make it complicated” is their motto.

The “set as default” and “apply to all aircraft” buttons don’t seem to work reliably. Each time I go in I have to re-set at least my keyboard. Also I’ve noticed different axes being reassigned, sometimes inverted, depending on the hardware I’m using that day. It’ll probably make sense to us 4 years from now, when it’s time for another sim.

For now, make sure your brakes are assigned to an axis. It doesn’t work with the digital button assignment, as far as I can tell. Then, make sure off is truly off (see my post above where I had to adjust the neutral position all the way to one side). Ever since I’ve done that the plane has performed perfectly on the ground. A couple of flights and I’m reminded of what a joy this plane is to fly. Definitely worth a little struggle with the bindings to get this plane up in this sim. Good luck!

So did they change the standard brake axis range? In fs20 it was -100 to +100

I just checked first with the default C172. My brake axis were deleted again (no idea why it keeps doing that), when I reassigned my brake pedals the action was reversed so I had to reverse axis. Not 100% sure, but I don’t think I had to reverse brake axis before. It then worked fine on the default C172, then checked the Cows DA42, all fine. So I don’t see any problem.

Console user, also updated to 1.1.4! I feel like that should have been talked about from Microsoft, they need a win or two here with 2024. Saying your 2020 content updates have been pushed feels like a really easy statement that would make a lot of us happy.
