Haven’t tried a busy airport yet, but flying over the photogrammetry city of Hobart in the Pitts with my new 5600X, on a mix of settings to load the CPU as much as possible on 1440p (LOD buildings 200, terrain 200) with render scaling at 90, I’m getting a smooth 48fps with scattered clouds set to high. No stuttering at all, and this on a 1660ti GPU.
heh, the 5600X will help a LOT on CPU bound tasks like photogrammetry. I’m on a B450 board myself, so I’ll have to wait for early next year BIOS updates before I can upgrade my 3600. Nice to see it’s doing well in sim.
i9-9900, 3090FE, 32Gb here, 4k all maxed and I can’t notice a FPS difference, so don’t think they included moving processes out of the main thread. Still running well though. 27-33 FPS at worst cases.
Glad to hear horrible stuttering here with an i5 8400 over photogrammetry but mainly with the airliners.Hope to see the 5600x back in stock here.
Thanks. I have a x570 Mobo and upgraded from a 3600x. Flashing the BIOS was a bit nerve wracking, but it went OK. Didn’t notice much of a difference at first, until I realised that although I’d selected XMP for the RAM, I still had to set FLCK and RAM to 1600/3200 in BIOS tweaking. The 5600X went like a bat out hell after that, even before I tighten up the timings manually.
What did you noticed from the 3600x to the 5600x.3600x is even better than my i5.Don’t bother I will report back when I upgrade. When ever these are in stock again.
@WindyMiller69 Any stutters?
Now yours is the best post, by far, that I have seen in this thread!
There are some …let us say ideologue’s venting here!
Doing your own research is the way forward.
I am afraid that the ‘giant leap’ in CPU optimisation that we are all craving, is sadly NOT
going to happen until the coders deliver the much vaunted future DX12 implimentation.
Sorry guy’s!
DX11 can only ‘talk’ to the GPU directly via a single core. Hence those pesky core limited notification’s.
It’s remarkable, then, that Asobo/MS have done as goodly a job with the visuals, as they have, really!
So be patient people. DX12 IS coming! With an efficient implementation, the CPU and the GPU will be able to ‘talk’ using more than one thread, SIMULTANEOUSLY!
And then we will all have a whole NEW set of issues to discuss!
What it comes down to is that Intel has been complacent. They haven’t had any real competition in the CPU realm in over a decade. Even on the low end, they crushed AMD’s top of the line. So instead of putting money into R&D to really up their game, they gave us marginal improvements year after year with new chipsets forcing full on upgrades while jacking up their prices to ridiculous levels, milking the market for all they could. It was a “you’ll take what we give you” kind of mentality. And they were confident that AMD would never be able to catch up to them. Much to their surprise, not only did AMD catch up, but tore right past them.
And we’be been seeing the same in the GPU market. nVidia has stood alone at the top of the hill for the last 10 years, with AMD only really nipping at the heels of their budget offerings with the best they could muster. That’s why we got 10-15% gains in performance from generation to generation (with the RTX 3000 series being an exception). Now it’s looking like AMD’s new generation of GPUs is going toe to toe with nVidia’s top of the line. That only means that the next gen of GPUs.
Indeed. Despite the issues and flaws in many, MANY areas of the sim, they’ve still accomplished something remarkable with the fidelity of the graphics. It’s visually stunning. When it’s working right, that is. lol
Indeed it looks so realistic. Some buddies of mine even questioned me how was I able to get into the cockpit during cruise lol.
I’ll wait for the answer from the team to clarify this to us.
It clearly got promised in the Q&A for patch 6
Can u fix the typo in the title OP?
Normally I wouldn’t expect to such a thing in patch notes because optimizations are always ongoing.
The problem with a company saying “we are optimizing”, besides stating the obvious, is that most people will expect large gains in frame rate. For a released game that is almost never the case. Unless it is like a switch from DX11 to Vulkan anyway.
Optimizations may be noticeable for some with specific hardware. Or, those extra FPS they bought may be spent by the developers on improving an existing feature (more fidelity) or a new feature.
They seem to be a young company or a company with little customer interaction going by some of their communication. They don’t really seem to realize how non-devs will take their words.
Normally I wouldn’t expect that either, but they made a big deal about it in the last Q&A stream saying they had been working on offloading stuff from the main thread to alleviate that main thread bottleneck. But they couldn’t get it rolled out in time for Update 5, but it would be in Update 6 instead. Update 6 is here, and no performance gains people expected. It’s understandable that people want to know what’s up. This is a highly anticipates fix people are waiting for.
And on a side note, they have mentioned performance optimizations in past patch notes.
Yeah I know and completely agree. That’s why I talked about their communication. We can’t say that it hadn’t built up expectations for many here. And as a programmer I think it built up unrealistic expectations.
Unless they know for sure that most will see an easily measurable performance increase then they should say nothing. FPS bounces around a lot so even a 5ps improvement gets lost pretty easily fore most of us if we fly somewhere different or change settings. And 5 fps is a huge increase in a released game unless they implement new technologies.
The only changes I’d notice if they fix them are:
- Looking 90 degrees to the left seems to often, but not always introduce small stutters.
- Turning on AI traffic makes my system stutter, even with 35 FPS.
For me that extra 5-10 FPS will be an absolute game changer. Even 5 more frames will be enough for me to turn off the FPS counter and enjoy the sim without checking the top corner of my screen every 15 seconds.
I just want the sim to look great and maintain 30 FPS, I don’t need anymore than that!
They listed several optimisation fixes in the 1.8.3.0 patch notes, both for the CPU and GPU, so if there are more I would expect that they will continue to be listed from now on.
Had only my 2nd CTD earlier. Was adjusting the flight plan approach on the world map & it was somehow too much for my i7-10700k..
Not sure what is going on here. Considerable time has passed since the question was raised, I think I saw the CM and a MOD comment in the body of this thread, but no info has been given.
