CPU otimizations

By that description, it seems like you’re being limited by your main CPU thread like the majority of folks. Your GPU isn’t working hard because the CPU isn’t able to process data to it fast enough.

GPU is constantly in the high 90s/100% usage

OK, fair enough. When you said the GPU was dragging its tail, it sounded like you meant it wasn’t working at capacity.

Haha nah as in its lagging behind
A few patches ago I was getting better performance, it’s certainly dropped in recent Patches so whenever the CPU Optimisation is that’s coming it could help me still.

CPU optimizations are not likely to do much for you if your GPU is fully loaded. You’re GPU limited now. At this point, this is likely as good as an experience you can get with your current hardware.

The CPU optimizations will help out people who have their main thread running at or near 100% while GPU is under-utilized.

I don’t think it was a promise, they just mentioned it might be in the next patch i.e. patch 6. If it was included I didn’t notice anything different but then I might be one of those who don’t gain much from it.

Doesn’t look like we are going to get an answer

What was I thinking.Even if we are getting cpu optimizations I am not expecting any gains.GPU bound here 90% of the time.

With all the emphasis on CPU improvements, eventually everyone will become GPU bound (like I am already). At that point, hopefully Asobo with send a bit of TLC towards the GPU, and at last I would have something to cheer about.

I have the same problem, doing the JFK landing challenge my FPS drops to around 5 FPS which makes the landing quite the challenge. LAX also has similar issues for me.

I have a 5120 x 1440 display, Ryzen 3700x, RTX 2080 Super, and 32 GB RAM.

Update: Still waiting for clarification.

Wanted to stop by to let you know that we haven’t forgotten. Thanks for your patience.

What GPU are you using and with what settings?

Just a GTX 1050Ti, with 4Gb VRAM. CPU is an 8 core xeon, so a bit of a mismatch. Even so, I’m able to run at about 30fps most places, with settings generally on high. I may soon inherit a GPU upgrade, but I’m not too worried if it doesn’t happen.

Yeah, you’re kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of realistic requirements for MSFS. You’re not likely to see any kind of optimization that will improve your experience, GPU or otherwise.

I am limited by GPU even though its not running at 100%. I think the airliners themselves (or at least the cockpits) need more optimising.

on my GTX 1060 6GB, i5 3470 at 4k, I can run light aircraft with high (ish) settings. When I fly airliners, I get a massive hit and have to drop down. I also have render scaling set to 60-70.

Any update from Asobo whether they did, or didn’t release additional optimization in Update 6? If they didn’t, and it certainly doesn’t appear that they did, is there a thought on when they will, i.e. update 7 perhaps?

@RoyalTot I have a much more stable cpu load in the sim after update 6. Before the update the cpu was all over the place spiking up then settling down.

I’m not seeing this manifest in update 6 and it’s been more fluid flying but I do notice the trees and buildings/houses do not load very far out from the plane even running both lod’s tweaked to 3.0 and 8.5 so apparently these make little difference in the sim.

I run 4k and mostly high settings with a few on ultra.
Streaming is not an issue.

Did you succeed with obtaining the clarification from the devs?

Close (system wise): 19-10640X and RTX 2080ti with 128GB RAM and Samsung 1TB 970 Pro PCIe NVMe M.2. No stutters BUT MSFS shuts down occasionally without (known) reason. Seems to happen when changing autopilot inputs on Mooney Ovation.

Yep not fixed due Carenado or MS. Known bug.
Also turn heading bug result in CTD with the Mooney M20R.
8700K @ 5.2 Ghz hovering @ 35% cpu load with 100 render scale @4K.
