Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but tonite i done my 6 monthly health check on my gaming laptop
i7 10750H
RTX 2060
16GB RAM
i run the game on max fans
i have it on a 5 fan cool pad
thats all on a table top
ive limited my fps to 30 on both game and nvidia
My question is while i was running my checks i was testing the temps by flying the A320 out and over new york and noticed that while my temps averaged 64-74 Degrees for 90 per cent of the time i would get very brief spikes in temps of 90 degrees, its only for a split second and i think its when the camera pans but havent noticed it before so wondered if it was part of this update ? i havent had time to run the check with other games as it got late but thought id throw it on up here to see if anyone can ease my mind as i know obviously running 90 for ages isnt ideal but are the rare spikes a problem or is it just down to the rendering when new scenery comes into shot when i pan,
i know its not great for yourself but thats good to hear on my part, hopefully some fix will come in the next fix, like i say generally with auto fans temps will sit mid 70s and up to mid 80s now and again and with max fans mid 60s to mid 79s now and again but its just the spike there only for brief second but just wanted to make sure it werent me laptop, i will test few games out omoz when get home from work and double check but im thinking more its sumut to do with this update cause 99% sure its when pan camera
Yes, I’ve noticed that some cores of my CPU will now spike into the 90’s although average temps are in the 60’s and there’s no throttling occurring. Highs previously were mid to high 80’s.
I think it may be because the GPU is being worked harder (its fans are going pretty hard) although its maximum temperatures are solid in the low to mid 70’s so there’s a bit more warm air in the case which is well ventilated and is venting a lot of hot air. Ambient air temperature is also warm here but not warmer than before the patch.
I can’t tell what causes the spikes (I play in VR so only glance at the temperatures periodically).
Yes the temps are higher (so are the power peaks).
Personally I consider this a good thing as my expensive CPU is finally used to it’s potential and not longer (or at least less) is a bottleneck (main thread limited) to the GPU while only one of its many cores was used really before SU5 (and I paid for all cores, while most sat idle or being bored ).
Either limit FPS manually in graphic settings, lower graphics settings (not so nice), reduce overclock and of course improve cooling (but unless the PC crashes the temp spikes are not hurting your CPU, it has temp protection built in).
na your missing what im getting at, the temps are fine they run at mid 60s - 70s, im using full fans, a cooling pad and raised laptop, no overclocking and FPS limited to 30fps but yeah the temps are fine im very happy ,
what im saying is when i was checking all hardware over i noticed in MSFS2020 even tho runs it at decent temps throught… every say, min or two there would a a very brief spike of any near or above the 90s, now its not effecting me, its not effecting performance and its not throttling, all im asking is ( as im no where near tech savvey ) is this a normal precidure when gaming, a occasional spike now and again when all new graphics and such are rendering or is sumut up ?
Yes the occasional spike is normal. In MSFS often triggered for example by looking (panning) around as this requires data to load for the changed view. All good don’t worry.
brilliant thats what i was thinking, because im sure it was while i was panning but it was getting late and couldnt stop up anymore to check ZZZzzzz lol, cool so i can move on from MSFS, test few other games then if its A ok get back on MSFS tonight
yeah i read that, i wouldnt be comftable sitting with it near 90 for long periods tho tbh but like say its only millisecond spikes every min or so and just wondered if it was a know issue with flight sim or a general gaming thing that never noticed before ?
In SU4 all components were being underutilized by FS2020.
Now with SU5 there is a greater sustained load during flight. Add to this the max load in splash screens and menu and what you have is a system which is heat saturated, so when load spikes occur your max temps are higher.
This explains why my CPU was running hotter and here I was playing with fans, changing them etc. wondering why it is running so hot! I will sit at high 60s, mid 70s with spikes of mid 80s on my Ryzen 7 3700X when running the sim now. The GPU (3070ti) is running at max 75-77c as well.
its soley this game i promise you, i spent the night checking all my other game via MSI and they all sit between 65-80 but what ever temps they were they were consitant, and tried flight sim and even with full fans i still get random 90+ spikes, on auto fans 90+ spikes dont think there is anything you can do till they optimize it for us bit better to get rid of em, the good thing i suppose is there short lived but it shouldnt be happening thats for sure
MSFS asks a lot of the CPU compared to other games, especially after the optimizations to make better use of multiple cores. Higher usage equals higher energy usage and more heat.
I think the problem is gaming laptops thermal capacity is almost always lower than the thermal design power of the chips. If i do a stress test on a gaming laptop i always see it throttle down, but because most games only use one core you won’t notice this with most games. Especially when using Vsync or a FPS limiter.
yeah i get what your saying, its the gaming laptops way and we accept that but na MSFS deffiantly has some tweaking to do with random cpu spikes, i done a stress test the same night and never peaked over 75 degrees, aint sayijg the games running badly far from it ( i know theres issues but i mean generally speaking ) just saying the games optimization its probably at 95% and the 5 % just cause’s the little spikes, it aint a big deal there a millionsecond at best and dont even engage fans
when posted the forum up i hadnt tested any other games at the same so was worried a little but soon aa got home next day and run some more tests with other games, ETS, ATS, f1 2021, FS19 and found that all sit mid 70s i was happy lol, i had to just put it out there in for bit of peace of mind lol
