I had the same issue in safe mode and normal mode after 2/3 of loading screen and would crash to desktop in Windows 11. I used this same PC a few weeks ago and never had this issue. Tried updating Graphics card drivers but did not help.

I ended up fixing it by installing all pending Windows 11 updates.

Just search for Windows Update Settings in the start menu, then check for updates or install all updates. Restart the PC and try MSFS2020 again. It loaded all the way through this time.

Good luck hope this helps.

I tried that out because I had updated something from WIN11 after a 2 weeks summer breake. I searched for updates again. A single one appears but now the WIN11 is fully up to date and no changes with the sim.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Oh thats a shame for you.

The 4 windows updates I had applied today to fix were:
2023-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5029263)
2023-08 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5028948)
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.395.889.0)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - v5.116 (KB890830)

My system is a:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
Motherboard: Asrock B550 Motherboard
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3600

Also my flight simulator is the standard one that was installed via the MS apps, not via steam.

The first two updates are installed on Thursday. The other two are not installed and obviously not detected by the Windows Update search.
I try to get this two security updates and try again.
Thanks

Both security updates don’t belong to WIN11. So I doubt that the WIN11 updates service will identify this automatically.
Did you manually identify this two updates for your WIN11 system?

These are the two that appeared in the update history for today and all I do is check for updates and install what were pending, so nothing manual.

One is under “Definition Updates”
and the other in the “other updates”

By the way the release notes ( RELEASE NOTES 1.33.8.0) for the latest MSFS2020 update can be seen here:

For whatever reason I cannot attach links in this forum. Just search for RELEASE NOTES 1.33.8.0 in google and go to the link
Aircraft & Avionics Update 02 (1.33.8.0) Release Notes
link.

Also some info from the relase notes:
if you are playing on PC, outdated packages in your community folder may have an unexpected impact on the title’s performance and behavior.

If you suffer from stability issues or long loading times, move your community package(s) to another folder before relaunching the title.

I just found the updates installed as of your description where to search. Thanks.
The release notes are always the same and I tried today with a clean community folder which is the main driver for issues after update. I suppose there is a certain setting in my WIN11 installation that accidently is wrong and causes the issue or certain updates of drivers in conbination with my individual setup may cause this now.
I will wait. Most likely it will resolve with new updates or other informations coming in to the community.
Thanks again.

Hi everyone,
I’ve got the exact same issue. I didn’t play for like 3-4 weeks and then today I had these CTD when loading the game via Steam in normal or safe mode. After 2/3 or 75% on the loading screen, it will crash and disappear.

I googled the error and try these following steps:

  • Go back to the previous NVIDIA driver
  • Delete NVIDA drivers etc… via DDU
  • Delete MSFS2020
  • Delete Common folder and Cache Scenery folder
  • Check for updates (but everything was already up to date)
  • Install MSFS 2020
  • Install NVIDIA Drivers (& GeForce Experience)
but nothing seems to work. Same error 0x80000003

12th Gen Intel(R) Core ™ i9-12900 KF
32 Go RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

If anyone has a clue, it would be great.
Thanks

Hi everyone,
They just release an update 15minutes ago and now it works for me. Hope for you too. Have a nice evening.

I strongly believe that this issue has something to do with WIN11 settings/updates etc. Something went wrong when updating after longer period of absence. The mix of driver and windows updates might cause the issue.
Asking ChatGPT for help this is the answer. 0x80000003

Error code 0x80000003 is typically related to a breakpoint exception in Windows operating systems. This error code indicates that a breakpoint was encountered during program execution. Breakpoints are used by developers for debugging purposes to pause the execution of a program at a specific location in the code.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and address this error:

  1. Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches that might be causing the error.
  2. Update or Roll Back Drivers: Outdated or incompatible hardware drivers can lead to this error. Make sure your drivers, especially those related to graphics and debugging, are up-to-date. Alternatively, if you recently updated drivers and the issue started occurring, you might want to roll back to the previous version.
  3. Check for Malware: Malware infections can sometimes cause unexpected errors. Run a thorough scan with your antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.
  4. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches that address compatibility and stability issues.
  5. Check for Software Conflicts: If the error started occurring after installing a new software, it’s possible that the new software is conflicting with other programs. Try uninstalling the recently installed software and see if the error persists.
  6. Check for Hardware Issues: Memory problems or other hardware issues can also cause this type of error. Use tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic to check for memory problems.
  7. Check Event Viewer: Windows Event Viewer can provide more detailed information about the error. Look for any relevant entries that might give you more insight into what’s causing the issue.
  8. Debugging Tools: If you’re a developer or have programming experience, you can use debugging tools to trace the source of the breakpoint exception. Tools like WinDbg can help you analyze the crash dump and identify the problematic code.
  9. System Restore: If the error started occurring after certain changes (installing software, updates, etc.), you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a state when it was working properly.
  10. Reinstall/Repair Software: If the issue is related to a specific application, you might want to consider reinstalling or repairing that software.

Remember that troubleshooting can sometimes be complex, and it’s always a good idea to back up your important data before making any significant changes to your system. If you’re not comfortable with technical troubleshooting, consider seeking assistance from a knowledgeable friend, tech support, or a professional.

Not really helpful but anyway, may someone read this and have the idea to fix it.

Who releases an update?

Hi, it was an update for Flight Simulator on Steam directly, a really small one (maybe a few ko). I checked again the updates on Steam because I read an another forum that Asobo was working on an issue causing crashes and that they will try to fix it asap, maybe monday (so tomorrow). So maybe tomorrow there will be another updates but for me the last one could resolve the CTD issue.
After the update, I could run MSFS without any problem, create a route and fly. The data load (sceneries) was a little slow at first but after 10 sec it was like it used to be. The only thing that doesn’t work is the Marketplace and the personalized content.

Have night

Many thanks.
I’m using the MS-Shop version so maybe solution/update can be received by first half of next week.

By the way just another thought, have you tried signing out of your Microsoft store account and signing back in again before playing?

I remembered that I had to sign in again because I had logged out of the Xbox game pass app, which is how I actually play the game, not via Microsoft store. So I was slightly wrong in my info earlier.

Good luck.

I have the same problem as you and I followed the same steps.
Back to old NVIDIA driver
Remove NVIDA drivers etc… via DDU
Delete MSFS2020
Delete Common Folder and Cache Scenery Folder
Check for updates (but everything was already updated)
Install MSFS 2020
Install NVIDIA (and GeForce Experience) drivers

MSFS is unplayable. Thanks for your help too.

Hi,
After updating the NVIDIA Driver and reinstall MSFS2020 it works for me. Performance is not on the same level as before but there are some tweaks and adjustments to do. But anyway it runs stable again.

For the time being I hope it resists.

Same problem here. It does not start every two weeks. You have to mess with it for a day before it might start with great difficulty.

I have tried everything suggested online regarding Exception code: 0x80000003 but no luck with a fix. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong?

My game started crashing on Aug 21st. The last update was a Microsoft Gaming Services update on the 18th. I wonder if that is the issue? Here is the info.
