CTD-caused by 3rd party (navigation) software fetching live traffic data

Have been playing this since launch day, never had CTD until yesterday. Have had 100+ hours flying.

I am doing a world tour, started from Chicago USA heading east. Yesterday I flew into China where lots of air traffic appeared ( due to the time difference, later evening in US is the busiest middle of the day time over there) if you turn on live traffic, which has been turned on all the time. Then I started to get CTD almost within one minute of flight started.

Tried clean rolling catch, turn off catch, turn off other ground and airport traffic, nothing could fix it. Video card driver is same as couple weeks ago. Nothing been updated/upgraded recently.

Only fix is turn aviation traffic completely OFF then everything works. I didn’t try AI traffic because for me I prefer either live traffic or no traffic. However I saw many people had CTD with AI traffic, too, and they had to turn off air traffic completely.

So I’m pretty sure it’s live traffic too busy causing CTD. Question is hot to fix it?

update:
Just finished a flight with aviation traffic OFF. Everything was fine, landed, made to parking lot, logged the flight. Then hit continue, went back to menu, turned back on live traffic, saved change, hit ESC went back into sim, CTDed instantly.

I to had to adjust my settings after the Update ! :astonished:

Do you have any livers pack installed? I have tons of livers. That could cause problem if sim trying to load random livers to all those traffics. It’s too late today. Tomorrow I’ll try set the sim using only generic livery with live traffic on.

Try running without any third-party apps too like for mapping or flight logging and see how that works.

I thought about that too because I had little navmap running. This morning I had the sim turned on live traffic without running little navmap and it was fine. Will try couple more times with and without it to confirm. If that’s the case, then we need to wait for little navmap to update.

Confirmed default little navmap will cause sim CTD with live traffic ( assume AI traffic will do the same).

Temporary fix on little navmap:
tools-flight simulator connection

  1. Turn update time interval to 1second. You don’t need it to update very frequently.
  2. Turn AI fetch radius to 50NM. If I remember correctly the sim only update traffic 50NM away so no need for it to be bigger than 50NM.
  3. Turn fetch AI ships OFF. I don’t care about the ships on my navmap.

All these is to reduce the load little navmap communicate with the sim. For now the sim is working fine. I need to wait till the live traffic gets busier tonight to stress test it.

If you still have CTD after this fix, try turn off “Fetch AI or multiplayer aircraft”.

I also turn the ground aircraft density to 30% in the sim. These aircrafts will be shown in little navmap and could cause too much load in the commination and crash the sim. Also it stresses CPU a lot, which will cause lag around big airports.

Sorry but this did NOT work for me. Might have caused it to happen quicker, not sure but it is still crashing MSFS on startup of LNM.

Are you using FSUIPC?

It happened to me again last night when traffic was busy on the other side of the earth.

I tried to completely turn OFF fetch AI aircraft. So there was no traffic display on LNM. And I was able to complete a flight.

Negative, I never heard of it before. Is it causing CTD for you?

I fly with live traffic and little nav map al the time. There must be a specific event.

So far yes. For my first flight after letting my a320 sit at the gate powerless for 20 minutes, I then turn on the batteries etc. started PACX then started the FSUIPC, after a minute the sim froze then CTD. I restarted the sim and flight without FSUIPC and the sim never crashed even after arriving at the airport for more than 4 hours. I’ll keep trying though to see if it remains stable without FSUIPC

Try fly around Beijing or Shanghai in the night time. I think it’s the 3rd party software pulling too much traffic data that causes the sim to crash.

I’m not familiar with FSUIPC. If you can disable it from fetching traffic data, do it. So far that’s my fix with LNM. Now it works to show my aircraft location and flight plan, etc. Just can’t show anything moving around me and the aircrafts parked in airports. But at least I have stable sim now.

It’s heavily depended on traffic around you. If you fly to somewhere no traffic then the issue may not happen at all.

I do not use FSUIPC with LNM. I am running ver 2.6.6 of LNM wihich contains the simconnect library. Again, I had no issue until the last update from MS2020 but have certainly narrowed it down to LNM causing the CTD in the sim.

Same here. The sim was the last thing got updated before I started to have the issue. If LNM, FSUIPC and other 3rd party software all crash since last update, could be the delivery of the traffic data from the sim causes itself to crash in a high density area.

No FSUIPC is a stand alone app, I thought you might have it installed on your PC

Ok so it’s possible it’s several apps/mods not compatible with the recent update. So far, for me it looks like FSUIPC. I’ll keep testing. I don’t use nor have LNM

discussing this issue. Not sure who/if any are looking into the issue.

Interesting thought… Asobo changed the texture file callouts for many planes, i.e. 747 and others. Added new textures and removed others. And didn’t tell anybody. So, if it’s trying to load liveries, then it’s going to come across these and not find some textures and have others that it no longer needs in the layout.json file. Knowing Asobo’s coding methods, this could well be causing crashes. Just speculation, but, I think it’s an interesting thought.
