It says openxr_loader.dll is the fault, but I am not in nor trying to load VR when the CTD happens.

I’ve also experienced CTDs with the faulting module ntdll.dll
Clearing certain cache files (and a few related folders) resolved it for me.

Same issue here with ntdll after auto upgrade to SU2 (MS Store)

Glad it’s not just me. This is so frustrating.

Please vote this issue if you want this get fixed. To me the game has become inaccessible.

Same. Literally just taking up room on my drive.

Similar issue here. But no CTD, it just locks up and I have to terminate via Task Manager.

After SU2 released, I ran 2024 briefly without issue. Ran it again later in the day, had good performance overall (medium-ish settings). During that session, I changed my Community folder path as I noticed it had reset to default.

Now, returning a few days later, I can’t get into the game at all. If I leave it to run the loading video while doing something else, it locks up on the “Start” page. If I watch it load, I can get into the main menu by clicking ‘Start’ promptly, but then it freezes a few seconds later in the main menu.

The in-game cursor is rendered, the music plays, but the window is frozen completely. Can’t maximise/minimise/close or anything.

I tried removing my custom Community path from UserOpt (and the default came back in the file), but no change to loading issue.

MS Store version. Recommended Nvidia driver (576.40). I was feeling positive about 2024 after my first time using SU2, having barely used the game since launch. Got my hopes up too soon! :man_facepalming:

Edit: Since found that my issue is described in this thread, but potentially same root cause with different outcome:

For those who got their hopes up and ready to sacrifice their cloud profile: for me it did NOT work. After confirming my avatar I got the usual CTD.

What does it take for Asobo to get a bug recognised? TO me the seems a lot more urgent than cosmetic stuff, this completely locks out users.

I get CTD 100% in MSFS024 and none in MSFS2020 on the same computer. MSFS2020 has literally 100 addons and still is perfect. MSFS202 has empty Community folder and crashed 100 %. Sorry Asobo, you really messed up here. I bet it has to do with the streaming data approach in MSFS2024.

Hope more people up vote this. Microsoft washed their hands of it.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Flight Simulator Support today.

Unfortunately, we do not have any further troubleshooting steps for this issue since the error message is still indicating that the issue is caused by your GPU and/or GPU drivers.

Last thing we can recommend is to join Sim Update 3 and see if the situation has improved.

Kind regards,
Microsoft Flight Simulator Support Team

Well, I have never read that they stopped supporting NVIDIA RTX GPU’s so it must be the driver then. Any particular version they can recommend? I am using the latest (without the NVIDIA app).

İ just heard back from customer support and had the following message. İ followed all the steps except the last about the cloud save so i guess I’m left with only that (despite people saying they’ve tried it and it still didn’t resolve the issue).

Hello everyone,
I also experienced a CTD (crash to desktop) after clicking “Start” following the SU2 update. Here’s the solution that worked for me:

I had fskneeboard installed, and that was the issue. Uninstall the program, and make sure the Windows registry is clean as well:
Go to:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1\ApiLayers\Implicit
Delete the corresponding entry there!!

Best regards
Andreas

I don’t have fskneeboard installed, unfortunately

It was ultraleap. Uninstalling it fixed it for me.
