MSFS2024 stops completely after a few seconds after full loading! Pls help!

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
MSFS2024 will stop completely after a few seconds after it has fully loaded.
After FS2024 has loaded and you see the two usual buttons in the bottom right corner, the game will freeze after 5-6 seconds, with only the background music playing.
According to the Task Manager, the propgram is not responding and the memory continues to load at 5-6% processor usage.
There is no entry in the Windows event log. The simulator was running with the same drivers a few days ago, so a VGA driver problem can be ruled out. No window updates have been installed since the last time the program worked correctly, practically no new software or updates have been installed on the otherwise brand new, clean Windows system.
I tried to start it via Safe Mode, but that didn’t work either. FS2024 has been reinstalled several times without success. I cannot use the simulator at the moment because it is completely unusable.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
YES

The same thing was happening to me. In my case, it was caused by Carenado planes. If you’ve purchased one of them, try disabling them in your library.

(Of course you must uninstall and reinstall the simulator to allow you to access the menu and the library.)

I don’t have any purchased add-ons yet (neither planes nor sceneries), so my community folder is clean and empty.
Unfortunately I can’t access any settings menu within FS24 because it freezes before I can click anywhere. If I am quick enough I can move forward to the main menu with the Earth globe, but then the Sim freezes anyway.

I have the same issue. The game worked twice, the day after SU2 released. Today, it freezes a few seconds after it finishes loading. If I’m fast, I can click ā€˜Start’ followed by any menu option before it freezes.

No mods, MS Store, Nvidia 576.40. Nothing has changed (that I’m aware of) since I ran SU2 successfully a few days ago. I changed the Community path but no fix by resetting it via UserOpt.

Once it freezes, the CPU load drops off and remains flat:

Same issue. Crashes upon selecting Start. All after SU2 May 15th update.

If you want try some not-so-random things.

  1. Disable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Graphics Settings

  2. Using RegEdit, add the following 32-Bit DWORD Values
TdrDelay with Hex value of 3c
TdrDdiDelay with Hex value of 3c
    to
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

  3. Update your BIOS

  4. Disable Frame Generation if you can get to settings

Is this what is going on? I think it’s happening to me too.

Try this:

https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/17060350083612-How-to-delete-a-cloud-save-to-fix-some-loading-or-crashing-issues-Crashing-on-the-identity-screen-spawning-inside-buildings

Seems like for my case it had something to do with the Steam Cloud save. I turned it off and deleted profile. Created a new profile in the sim like when it was new and it seems to be working perfectly now. Only thing is i’m going to have to remap all my controls…

With SU2, I had CTDs during loading. Each time.
A clean reinstall was the solution for me.

Thanks a million for your comment, this solved my problem! I lost all my settings, but at least the sim works as it should! :star_struck:
I think there is no way to corrupt this data in the cloud on the user side, so this is clearly an Asobo bug. I hope they can fix it ASAP.
Once again, many thanks for your post! :folded_hands: :ok_hand: :handshake:

Come to think of it, before it started freezing immediately after the loading finishes, the time before that it froze at about 20% loaded. Same issue otherwise. Video was running (I think) but all progress was stuck. After 10 mins I terminated it via Task Manager. Since then, it loads to 100% then freezes a few seconds later.

Maybe that offers a clue as to what/why something went wrong.

If not, another clue could be that I changed a key binding the last time 2024 ran successfully. I edited the Slew Mode key from Shift Z to Shift Y, more akin to the old shortcut. Besides, Shift X is for drone cam and that was way too close to Slew Mode on Shift Z that I’d likely catch it in flight when switching camera mode for acreenshots…

If there’s one thing I hate more than having sim problems, it’s remapping key bindings. It’s the single most likely cause of me not picking up a game again. I’d rather wait a while and stick to 2020, than do that again.

You can use the new import feature to import the control profiles back in from the steam cloud files. Kind of pain but it beats manually setting up controls again.

So this just started for me today. All last week after SU2 dropped the only issue I had was trying to start with a non-live time. CTD everytime, but no issues when flying live time. Now today I cannot even start a flight CTD every time. But actually worse…. My whole system freezes solid and requires a hard-boot (power off)

What is going on???

So I thought I’d bite the bullet and hit the ā€œresetā€ option in the Windows Apps area (I have the MS Store version):

I assumed that would clear my local saves & config and force a download of anything that is in my cloud profile, with any non-synced changes needing to be set up again. No other options for me with MS Store I believe… (except deleting cloud saves with the trick linked above; would rather not).

Well, I got into the main menu for around 10 seconds. Opened up the setting page, then it froze again 2 seconds later. So, I managed 12 seconds rather than 5 seconds.

I guess that’s progress? :upside_down_face:

Will you lose the earned career detail?

Not sure if it will fix your problem but here is a link from Microsoft flight sim support to deleting the cloud saves.

If you have many career flights and progress, deleting the cloud save will also delete your career progress and you will start from zero.

Cloud Save delete

No, I deleted my cloud saves yesterday, as I mentioned, and apart from the keybindings and my hours flown, all my missions, certificates, companies I founded are still there, nothing lost.

Thanks. I saw it posted earlier and will take that option as a last resort. It’s a shame the platform is not more robust in recognising a corrupt save, such that it tells the user or offers a chance to load a previous version. In being more user-friendly, modern apps remove a lot of control from the user, which is frustrating (from my point of view).

I’ve only made a few career flights (didn’t like the format though the idea is great) and have only flown about 6 or 7 hours (despite logging 50+ hours in the game, due to launch issues), but I’m hoping not to redo my control bindings again. I’ll stick to 2020 for now and see what develops before I clear my 2024 cloud saves.

Just when a move to 2024 looked viable, it had to die…

Thanks for that info Zlin
The person who is helping me at support told me I would lose my career progress.

Are you a steam or store user?
