Customizable graphics options for Xbox

It would be great if we could see some level of advanced graphic customization options for Xbox to allow more advanced simmers the options to tune performance vs visual settings to their individual liking. In particular things such as the “glass cockpit refresh rate” for those of us who primarily fly military based aircraft.

I understand there is probably a desire to minimize support issues and ensure consistent game play quality on the Xbox platform by limiting configuration options. But there are other games on Xbox that allow for graphics customizations far beyond just the simple HDR10 on/off option we get in MSFS.

And while you could argue that “advanced simmers” should invest in the PC platform, there are some of us who are investing in other areas first (ie HOTAS, simming chair, sound systems, etc. etc.) as a first step while leveraging our existing investment in an Xbox system that provides great value to get into flying ($499) before spending the $3k-$4k on a proper PC / VR rig. I’m one of them

Thanks for the consideration

It would be nice to be able to tweak the graphics quality/performance balance in the consoles. For example, in the LOD discussion for the AAU beta it has been suggested that graphical quality has been diminished to help reduce CTDs at highly detailed third party airports. Since I don’t have any of those, I would rather have the pretty graphics.

I cannot see a quality vs. performance option being instated that is incapable of ensuring CTDs do not happen in either setting state.

There are too many end users with varying levels of experience and expectations to allow a setting within the sim to be set “wrong” and start causing the sim to CTD.

The crux of the problem is the CTDs and the solution is to find and eliminate the causes of those CTDs, not add a band-aid “solution” that still allows the sim to CTD if set wrong.

The only time a quality vs. performance option should exist is when it safe to run the sim in either setting regardless of installed Marketplace content.

What about pilots of smaller, GA planes? I almost never get CTD with these machines, while airliner pilots suffer many crashes. A graphical option would be great in this case.

GA, airliner, helicopter or hot air balloon, there is no way the developers are going to put a setting in the sim that will allow the sim to CTD.

It is far better to ask that they fix the CTDs, so that no matter what the setting (should one ever become an option) the sim will not crash.

Let’s say they fixed CTDs. Now we’re talking about frame rates. I would gladly give up some frame rates for better picture quality. It’s a standard in almost every ps5/XSX game to have graphics options.

Yes, that is the correct approach here. There is nothing wrong with wanting an FPS vs. graphic fidelity setting, but it needs to instated (if it even can be) after the CTD issues are addressed.

It has to be that either setting will work for any user and their choice in scenery and aircraft. It can’t be a situation where a setting choice crashes the sim.

YES please!

Every other game has this option or is locked at 60fps, so why not flight simulator? I do not like having to use the motion smoothening feature on my TV as it introduces lag.

The « glass cockpit refresh rate » is too low on Xbox. It’s not realistic and it kills the immersion.

It’s depressing even for console standards to have only HDR: on/off under the graphic tag in the options panel. We kindly ask for a more modular approach, the sim comes already with many options so we’re kind of used to deal with it. In particular, it would be very useful to have sliders you can set and adjust just to tailor your game experience, which can be very different depending on the type of fly/plane. For example, a slider for the tree density: probably a bush pilot and an airliner one would choose a different value for that. It could be also important to adjust the performances of the sim and while we’re really not asking to have all the options you get on PC, to have at least a bunch of them would be pretty much standard nowdays. Even on console.

Yeah that toggle is there but in both 2020 and 2024 it’s not selectable for me. I have hdr 4k tv

Asobo please also add options to disable:

Parked aircraft
Ground crew
Car traffic
Ships
Animals

I don’t need these unnecessary things gobbling my resources when I’m flying bush planes. Better draw distance and LOD is much more important for flying.

Also give us the 2D trees of MSFS 2020 back as an option to toggle. I want forests visible up to the horizon and better frame rate. The new tree system is unoptimized and for what? I doesn’t even look that good when flying.

Here is an idea Asobo:

2d trees when flying
3d trees when walking around (they would spawn after leaving plane).

In my experience on PC, these settings do not improve performance nearly as much as they did in 2020. Or at the very least, they tax the CPU less and impact the GPU more… which is better for Xbox.

I beg to differ. Every time I zoom in on trees I get massive frame rate drops to 10-15 fps. Playing on XSX. In every forest area I get heavy stutters.

It is a mess troubleshooting on Xbox without sliders.

I am just reporting back my PC experience with those sliders we used to have on Xbox. They do not impact performance as much as they did in 2020.

In 2020 they were more tied to the CPU so lowering them could give the Xbox a real boost where it was most limited. I am not sure we would get the same results in 2024… but who knows? Since we cannot adjust them.

Ugh. When that happens, pause the sim and see if you notice high resolution texture tiles loading in.

If you do, just let them load, leave the sim paused, and unpause when the textures are loaded.

If you do not see them load, restart the flight and hope for better streaming the next time, or wait a few hours as the servers might be moody.

Heavy trees in PG areas are a frame rate killer on PC too. Sliders don’t necessarily help because the situation where it hurts you’re usually low and close to the trees so they’re rendering whatever the slider’s at…

The poor PG is not the the problem here. Look at the draw distance. Even in this miniature picture I can clearly see the draw tile. After that point total blur. What a let down on XSX.

Try this from cockpit when the image is zoomed in by default and it’s disgusting.
