Hello all. Had a quick question with the update. I enjoy climbing high shutting the engine off and practice dead sticking. Usually I shut the engine off and lower the gear immediately and practice gliding and away I go to the nearest airport
I noticed to my great demise that when trying to do this after the update I lose all flight control authority . Before the update I only lost landing gear.
Im sure this is more real life but is there a way to practice engine out dead stick landings ? Or do I just have to power to idle and practice that way
Thanks Jack - that makes sense. It just caught me off guard from before the update - was feverishly trying to start the engines today as I was making a line to the ground lol. Very intimidating sight for sure lol .
I’ll probably leave the setting since it’s the real deal and just power to idle in future. (Didn’t know if this really happened are there back up hydraulics type of thing). Love this plane and got tickets to see top gun 2 next week
Yes, F-14s would lose hydraulics with a double-engine failure in real life. The pilot only had a one-shot chance to re-charge the system and re-start the engines, something we didn’t want to labour users with in case it ruined their flight. Idle power is what pilots would have used in training to practice this sort of emergency, so you’re good to go
xbox x user - just discovered the updated liveries - i’m noticing a serious lag with the plane in cockpit and outside views, tested with other planes which are running fine, any idea as to the cause?
cheers all - really wanna get airborne with vf111
I noticed if I do full flaps using a mouse to drag the flap switch in the cockpit, the animation does not show full flaps if you look from the outside view. If I use a hotkey for full flaps the animation works.
@Creeperbro21379 My understanding is this will be corrected soon. Had to do specifically with multiplayer and wing sweep, but Dean might be able to share more info on that. Think he has found a solution, but i’ll let him confirm that.
It’s intentional but will again change with the next update. We’re trying to ensure that manual wing sweep ( all wing sweep too ) will show up in multiplayer for a better experience. Logo light should have worked but it hasn’t, so I’m working on something new at the moment. Crew, however, now show up over multiplayer so there has been progress
Weird idea, perhaps, but what about slaving the wing sweep to propellor pitch? That won’t conflict with any propellors on the F-14, and what is propellor pitch but adjusting the angle of a (rapidly rotating) wing?
It would not work as only a very small number of sim variables are sent over multiplayer, mostly lights, flaps, control surfaces and gear ( and gear often doesn’t work well ). There isn’t much to work with.
Thank you for answering my question on the wing sweep. Another question I have is will there be a pitch trim added to the the Tomcats like on the yoke/flight stick in the cockpit since that’s the only I know how to change the pitch trim in the game. Cause since there was no pitch trim I’ve had to fight the Tomcats going up and down on their own instead of wanting them to go straight. Is there any info on that?
Pitch trim is a control in the simulator that you assign to a joystick or throttle control, I use pitch trim all the time in all airplanes as per real life. It doesn’t need the same control in the cockpit to have it, and it would be far too fiddly to click on and use while flying the airplane.
Just to clarify (and confirm my understanding of the manual ), is it correct that the wing sweep cover (the clear plastic bit) is what controls the wing sweep mode: cover down = auto, cover up = manual? I was a little confused at first by the new toggling action of the wing sweep lever according to the logo light binding, but I understand what you’re trying to do with it as far as it “showing” in multiplayer. I assume it still works to put the wings into over-sweep when parked?
I think I disabled that, in the sense that you can slave a button to logo light and it will then work regardless of cover position. Over-sweep is automatic when wings are manually swept back and the engines are shut down, that’s always been the case.
Ok, sounds like it works more or less as I was thinking. I snuck a peak at a video of the DCS version just for a more true-to-life perspective (not trying to create arguments) and it appears the basic features are there which works for me.
