Destination Weather System

As an ex ATCO and Met Observer I am only too aware that frequently the latest METAR is out of date the minute it is released, especially in rapidly changing weather systems. In the real world METARS are supplemented by special weather observations and ATC are permitted to make unofficial observations to pilots when weather conditions deteriorate. So the fact that the weather briefing prior to departure may not accurately indicate the actual weather on arrival is not an error, but makes flying in the simulator more challenging and realistic. What I think is required is some system that would permit airborne pilots to check the current weather at destination in the simulator and update the flight plan for any changes in the runway in use. This could be achieved by a menu system within the current weather tab, or by dialling COM 2 into a discrete frequency and obtaining the destination ATIS.

As long as you have an EFB or charts system outside of the sim that gives you the associated COMS frequencies for the destination facility, you can in fact do the following:

Please note the sim does enforce VHF range limits AFAIK, so if you’re too far away from the ATIS/AWOS, you’re going to get silence on that frequency even if you’ve correctly dialed it into COM2.
