Thanks for the feedback! I hope we never see the queue again, either. I put in those questions for a few reasons:
I thought I had a handle on the situation until today’s banner went up. Now I’m confused. I also didn’t like the tone of this announcement, either…it sounded like they were throwing some other Microsoft system under the bus. I’m hoping to hear more and be disproven.
In my opinion, if I’m going to be a part of this ecosystem for the long term, it helps [me] if I understand a little bit about how it works. Additionally, understanding design decisions and how they handle things helps me to determine how much I can trust them, going forward.
People in the forums and other places are going to speculate on what happened, and having concrete information might help ease up on the speculation.
I also wanted to raise attention to the GPUs spinning while in the queue. While inside the sim and outside of flight, I don’t know why one’s system has to work any harder than it does while surfing the Web.
Q: You’ve tagged the forum thread, “FPS Performance -VRAM bug” as bug logged. Can you explain more about what is happening, and how soon can we expect this to be fixed, as is ruining the experience for many simmers.
And my less immediate question is:
Q: How soon can we start downloading our collections from the marketplace?
I’m glad I hesitated. I’d be pretty upset if I had paid money for this too. That said, I’m still enjoying MSFS (2020), but I’m concerned about future updates. MSFS was released with the promise of ten years of support and updates, but there are still things that need to be fixed (decade-old map data especially) and the normal update cycle seems to have been put on indefinite hold. When (if ever) can we expect support for the 2020 sim to resume?
I personally didn’t hesitate, because of the career mode, its a win no matter the loss. overall, 2024 is very fantastic, no body in the world can do such a thing other than Microsoft, so i absolutely agree with the head of the sim latest statement about this technological achievement. that being said, the problems with 2024 can be categorized to 3 main categories based on severity:
Server issues at launch: absolutely excusable, now fixed, and being upgraded based on the growing need. my guess that the sim cost them significant server capacity for the content streaming, so at launch they tried to balance that cost, with launch expectations, which was the hit, as many wanted to check the new sim beyond what they expected. in my opinion, no one can consider the server issues an active issue, except the streaming quality and bandwidth issues, which they already promising of addressing, and the community will be pleased if they got the streaming as an optional feature & not as a forced one.
Performance issues including bugs, while its frustrating, but its understandable and excusable, as this is the nature of any complex software. i bet no other software have plans of updates in performance and fixes and content like this sim have, so only patience and understanding is needed.
The surprise for me and the most severe issue in my point of view, is replacing amazing features already existing in 2020, and degrading them in 2024 entirely. like the “my hangar” feature, i never expected this, as though they won’t change existing features. they removed any descriptions and info about planes you have, and gives you only pictures of them, instead the ability of inspecting each one of them by camera angels. this is very different than inspecting the planes for preflight individually as currently featured in 2024.
so with this loss, i still gained from 2024, because of the career mode. but because of this path of downgrading features, its almost impossible for me to be in the club for future releases, so i will stick with 2020 for “my hangar” and planes details, and 2024 for career. can’t have a third that splits features more!
I would like to know when are we going to have SU 16 in MSFS 2020 and why was there no WU 19 Brazil 3rd Dec. because I’m sure it will be moved to later date.
Question - Why were we promised that 3rd party aircraft like PMDG would natively work on release? They clearly don’t and Asobo blatantly lied to us. If it weren’t for PMDG and the high-fidelity 3rd party aircraft in MSFS, I would’ve moved back to X-plane a long long time ago.
Although not the most critical question at the moment, I am very curious how the Marketplace receipt (non-itemized) structure will be addressed in 2024, and when, if at all. Thanks. --Redeye
Are you committed to fixing every single issue and bring every single default aircraft to the same high standard? I dont want to hear that one aircraft is a high priority and others aren’t beacuse they are deemed “less popular”. The JN4 Jenny deserves bug fixes just as much as the 737 MAX.
Also all the aircraft, third party or not, MUST have all the FS24 features. Every aircraft needs to be career compatable. Every aircraft should have opening hatches and doors, every aircraft must have adaptable liveries.
MSFS 2020 is still working well and I don’t intend upgrading to 2024 until most early bugs are squashed. What I have noticed since 2024 was launched is that my 2020 checking for updates is taking a lot longer to finish (~45 seconds now, used to be 1-2 seconds). I don’t know but I’d guess this is MSFS server related, maybe due to 2024?
Question-Would love to know what famous flyer will come after the Caravelle (out early next year with SU16)-a 717 would be awesome and if Australia and NZ will receive any City Updates plus will we be able to walk through the cabin on the 737 Max similar to the ini made A321LR and A330-currently opening the 737 cockpit door returns you to the outside and the only way to see the modelled cabin is with the Showcase camera which doesn’t allow for custom view saving/recall.
Question-will default Asobo aircraft have paintkits for custom liveries for use outside of the Marketplace?
Question-has the issue with large planes and custom airports been fixed for PC as well as for Xbox?
I haven’t purchased the game yet, but I have seen endless videos of people playing it.
In the 2024 Seminar with Jorg and Seb and select audience the following things were said to be vastly improved over 2020.
New satellite imagery across the planet.
New & some improved photogrammetry cities (Twice as many)
A Million Square Kilometres New LIDAR data (Hi res height elevation data)
But from what I have seen 2024 appears much the same as 2020 only now with 3D trees, AI ground scattering and ray traced lighting.
So I would like to know if all this new data is in the sim and since Jorg previously stated that 2020 would get an update with the new Satellite data when 2024 was released and that hasn’t yet happened , if we can expect one soon?
The last statement shows very clearly how dependent we customers are on the provider. The provider can activate or deactivate the paid content at its discretion. Welcome in the new world.
I agree with some other posters that post-mortem of the launch questions are irrelevant at this point. What matters at the moment is what are the current priorities that the team are addressing. I think we need to be reassured that resources are being applied to the most important areas first. The time for assessing what went wrong is when the sim is back on its feet.
Personally I’d like to have confirmation the reported VR issues are a priority as like many others I fly almost exclusively in VR, or at least I did in 2020.
They need to know that some of the more tech-savvy members here believe that lazy DX12 coding is to blame for the VRAM / Shared Memory issues. Have they hired high-level programmers to fix it?
