I thought it was a good Q&A - I’m sure there are plenty things to nitpick, and people will moan no matter what, but I thought there was some good and exciting stuff to look forward to.

One thing that’s not mentioned, but got a lot of excitement, is the all-new reworked G3X unit!

To me the G3X update is the most important.
As I’m going to buy 2024 when it’s out. Every improvement the make to 2020 will be an improvuement upon release of 2024.

The G3X is a huge win, and it’s WT so we know it will be good.

The promised bug fixes/improvements for snow (frozen lakes), ATC voices, stability and performance, ground handling (tyre suspension), ground tile popping, and probably stuff I’ve forgotten, if they all work as hoped it could be one of the best SU ever, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Beta only a few weeks away so not long to wait.

Listening to it now and it is great to hear how all our experiences and feedback are rolling into solutions over time. The memory schema solution alone makes SU15 beta participation very tempting! I need to think about that but it’s great to hear them validate all that we have learned the hard way and speculation about why things crash or go blank. Thanks for highlighting this on a thread here, hopefully more of us, especially on XBOX will take the time to tune in and understand.

Sorry for the question, but did they announced a starting date for SU15 beta yet?

Sorry, multitasking here today but I don’t recall hearing a date for the beta.

No problem, we see it when it comes. Eagerly awaiting this for Xbox as well.

Personal Comments and Observations

Most recent flightings have about a four-week window, so working backwards from the published SU15 release date, you’re probably looking around Valentine’s Day for the Beta. Again, that’s conjecture based on historical trending. I have no insider information.

It’s certainly important news for Xbox users who are limited to 16GB of shared RAM. I can’t imagine why memory optimization wouldn’t benefit PC users like myself as well.

King Air not listed in supported G3X update? I’m currently using the G1000 mod for it but would be nice to have the update.

Would require a lot of changes internally, esp. to the cockpit art etc. At least the Husk Mod is a realistic STC. The KA could use an uplift for sure.

G3X is big, but I think the biggest thing was WT’s work behind the scenes, re-writing the cockpit display code to eliminate the memory spikes, CPU spikes, and offloading of memory, resulting in a reduction of micro stutters, and increased FPS. That will benefit everyone, not just the people that will be using the G3X.

I thought it was another good Q+A. I always really admire these Q+A’s. Not just for them doing them in the first place, but these guys do a great job describing such technically complex things in their non native language. They’re always really interesting.

Not much news about FS2024 but it looks like some of what we’re getting in SU15 is because of technical breakthroughs in what they’re developing for FS2024.

Edited: now full Q@A on the first post.

The update of the G3X is going to be huge. And it’s the last of the “legacy” nav systems in the sim. Hopefully they can finally retire that old nav / flight planning system completely by taking out to the back 40 and putting it out of our misery.

It should come as no surprise that it’s getting its update finally though, even though it wasn’t announced. The G3000 and G1000 got their update to the new WT system. The airliners and the Collins fms in the CJ4 got it. The G3X was the outlier. And I suspect with all the touch animations and such, it was probably the most challenging. And since it’s used in a much smaller number of planes than any other, it was saved for last. But good to see it’s finally getting the update it deserves. The current version looks pretty haggard compared to everything else.

Definitely appreciate Jorg reading comments; as he seems aware of the “skies are too red during sunrise” stuff, but Seb seems to have no clue of these… he also wasn’t aware of SU14 performance issues (as he said he recently was made aware). All this to say, I do appreciate that some of them ARE reading our feedback and comments.

Also stoked for Brazil updates IF they happen! South America needs it badly.

For some reason I had it in my mind that they’d already answered this question in a Q+A from long ago and that fixing the problem would requite a complete overhaul of how the light scattering system works. I kind of presumed this was one of the (many) reasons they’re doing FS2024. Obviously I’ve misunderstood something.

From my retired developer perspective I expect the revised memory allocation (mem alloc) will be a game changer for many.

Did anyone notice the boost from 55fps to 75fps in SU15?
