ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
The ‘behavior’ of the horizontal scroll bar used to select from available presets has changed dramatically. This was first noticed on SU2 and has carried through to SU3.
Correct use is to select either of the left or right arrows to scroll through the available presets for the loaded aircraft. You would stop at the required preset and then set save as default, or other action, as show in the cog wheel list. The scrolling of the presets would happen without delay.
Now, when requesting a preset exactly as before, the behavior is now identical to that shown when changing from one device to another. That is, the blue scrollbar disappears and is replaced by the black screen with the spinning white wheel. This takes about 8 secs and is perhaps acceptable when changing from mouse-keyboard-joystick etc., but not acceptable when scrolling through 100 odd presets.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Everytime, although on one occasion I scrolled through about 10 or so presets and without warning the required scroll bar action resumed for no reason known to me. I then changed devices and bad behavior returned as it did when I went back to previous device which had momentarily come good!

I see this, though I think (speculation) this is may be by design & not a bug.

On my PC, it only takes 1-2 seconds. However, I have fewer presets - only 28 folders under SystemAppData\wgs. If the “change” time is proportional to the number of presets, then the OPs 8 seconds would make sense.

What constitutes “acceptable” is subjective and users will have different opinions on this.

Appreciate your comments, we are all using the sim for different things and have differing views on everything. I guess my main point is to clarify whether this change has been made on purpose and seen by all, and if so why as the system worked fine before regardless of how many presets you had. Or if I am alone and have an issue on my PC. If this change was deemed better then why retain a horizontal scroll bar that does not work correctly, better to revert to a vertical list? Gone is the ‘save as default’ as well but it remains in the rename menu (even though the rename function does not work correctly either, for me) There are other issues as well in this area, I just wish they would leave the stuff that is not actually broken, alone, and get all the broken stuff fixed first, cheers!

There is a bug-logged report with 138 votes which seems to describe the same issue:

To the earlier comment on subjective appreciation of a waiting time, this bug report tells us that at least 138 players are not OK waiting several seconds for just browsing a selection box.

Thanks for your input to this. I did see this one and my thoughts are that it references the selection of a new device e.g. throttle to joystick or keyboard to mouse, but my query is the selection of a preset once you have completed the selection of the device.
I have no real issue in a delay between the devices, but ha a real concern once I have arrived at the device and try to select a preset. The developers appear to have changed the coding. and the ‘horizontal scroll bars’ (my terminology), no longer work as they did, at least on my PC.
Additionally, and maybe you could try it at you end, select one of your presets in either General or Airplanes controls, select the cog wheel and select Rename. Just delete a few characters off and select Ok. On my end the original name still exists and the change has had no effect!
I think developers are good at what they do but have no real world experience on the changes they are making. My opinion only after battling for years on business system upgrades etc.
