Hello to the community!
I’ve owned MSFS since the beginning and use it extensively on the PC.
Now I’ve bought an X-Box Series X incl. Gamepass and would also like to fly MSFS there, but different than on the PC.
How do you get the settings on the X-Box not to destroy the settings on the PC?
+1 Good question
Welcome!
Xbox Series X has predefined graphic settings that aren’t able to be modified since it is an enclosed system - it runs on high/ultra for MSFS. I believe the only graphics setting that you can turn on and off is HDR.
Here is an old thread about it if you’re curious: No graphics setting In Xbox X General Options
It would be awesome to get clarity on the LOD setting for Xbox. It appears to be pretty low compared to PC, especially in SU 11 Beta.
Depends on the PC and the desired FPS…
Xbox graphics settings, while hidden, are a mix of high and ultra settings. It’s also been running native DX12 since launch, and there are some things - like water reflections - that Xbox actually does a superior job at as a result.
May I ask how difficult it would be to include UserCfg profiles for settings on PC similar to those for controls? not only for this Xbox problem but it could also be useful for differences between e.g. gliders and complex airliners or countryside flying and PG cities?
Yes it is possible to use different UserCfg text files and copy and paste over the Cfg but this is a cumbersome process for newbies in particular.
Almost impossible in the way Microsoft wants to keep the Xbox a walled garden. Once we can change code, the Xbox becomes vulnerable to malware and hacks.
Not that relevant as UserCfg is local to the PC, if Xbox cloud changes things there would at least be a one click solution. That or an Xbox fix to disable changes to PC settings.
Again, the issue here is the walled garden aspect of the Xbox.
This is not something Asobo could just do Willy nilly, Microsoft would have to sign off on it. And they don’t typically allow folks to change things in their games that could require a new type of tech support in the future.
And all I can provide as evidence for you is every single other Xbox game that has been released since the days of the first console. AND the ongoing WASM on Xbox saga.
MS does not ever let folks edit game files. And again, right or wrong, the reason is to protect users from malicious code, and to insure all players have the same experience.
The Xbox is basically a PC, but Microsoft walls it off like it is an Apple.
Again there is absolutely no reason why either platform cannot have their own UserCfg, it is only used for graphics settings.
There are advantages to both platforms.
The solution to your issue is to transfer to PC.
For better or for worse, XBOX will always be the more idiot proofed version.
When people talk about the difference between console and PC, this is the type of thing they are talking about.
Can they do it? Of course.
Will they do it? They haven’t yet in 20 years. Don’t lose sleep waiting for that to change anytime soon.
Just remember that you have a lot to thank Xbox for. MSFS2020 wouldn’t exist otherwise.
Totally agree. But that’s another topic.
I don’t think that’s true specifically on LOD, as many folks have shown in threads discussing that specific issue.
LOD settings on PC are not measured in terms of High or Ultra, they use a slider with a scale of like 30-400. The Series X to my eye is running near or just below 100 right now which is what a “High” preset would give you. Ultra IIRC is 200.
But really, to my eye, in the Beta, it is running around 50-70 which would be Medium/High.
Edit: Thought this was a different thread! Oh well. I’ll leave this post up.
It’s a stretch to call the Xbox SU11 Beta LOD anything close to a “high” value compared to PC, though SU10 is closer.
I made a distinction between both versions in my post since this isn’t the Beta forum. Perhaps you missed it.
Nope, I don’t think “medium/high” is likely the right LOD description for the beta, either. But I’ll leave it there given this isn’t the beta forum.
It is so hard to tell with my eyes, since my PC runs on different settings and with different resolution than XBOX in any case. But yeah, it is definitely lower in the Beta than in the current SU. That much is indisputable.
