Direct X11 VS Direct X12

Huge performance leap? Really?.

I don’t see that unfortunately.

But you’re using a G-SYNC monitor…different kettle of fish. Those of us with V-SYNC monitors used to be able to cap frames 3 below the max fresh and turn on VSYNC in NCP to force VSYNC to work but that broke with AAU as I recall…

I get highly visible tearing when panning if I turn Vsync off.

Is your GPU capable of DLSS3/frame generation?

If you turn Vsync off and you get tearing while being within your monitors Gsync range, Gsync is not working…

I9 11900k I presume it is but not sure?

That’s a CPU.

Point is that the significant performance improvements between DX11 and 12 are only if you have an Nvidia 40 series graphics card.

Sorry misread your question - 3070ti

That is an old GPU for MSFS. Unless you’re on an RTX 40 series card, forget it.

I had less crashes / CTD under DX12 for me but with AMD graphics cards, DX12 has the satellite terrain showing instead of runways in random spots, That bug has been there for 8+ months. Hope they will fix it someday so that DX12 can be used with seeing runways again.

Or an Intel A770 LE 16GB GPU.

Adding AI fake frames is not a performance improvement. It’s an illusion. I’ve said it, and will say it again. Turn off FG, and turn up your Terrain Lod just until you start to stutter. Turn back on Frame Generation, and see how real that FPS is. If it’s real, your stutter will be gone. If its an illusion. You’ll be stuttering at double your fps. PS, I already know the answer. So if you don’t have a 40 series card, what you’re missing out on in reality is a higher clock speed, slightly higher memory bandwidth, and it runs cooler. No more, no less. Exactly what is to be expected from jumping to the next gen. Aside from OC, and hardware upgrades, the only magic button to increase fps on a computer is the power button. When it is pressed, the fps goes from zero to… whatever your system will give.

I have a 4090 + 7950x3D and in 4K with TAA dx12 still runs way worse than dx11

DX11 is the champ currently! When DX12 worked well, I sang it’s praises. It doesn’t, and has been left for dead

I agree.

The graphics card needs to be capable of DX12_2 (AKA - DX 12 Ultimate)
to provide the additional benefits.

And yes, render scaling at native resolution, no DLSS and no Frame Generation.

5 series will insert 10 fake frames for each real one giving you 10… 10!.. TEN times the fps!!!

all jokes aside, which one gives the least stutter atm DX11 or 12?
hags on or off? game mode on or off?

Well DX11 was always smoother for me on pure rasterised performance. However, I have a 4070ti so obviously am using FG - so HAGS on, DX12 on and Game Mode off (I think).

FG soaks up any stutters that DX12 would normally have to give lovely smooth performance. Ive locked frames to 60 which frees up some CPU load as well.

You need to test on your system and find out for yourself, because there doesn’t seem to be an across the board consistent answer. Especially when it comes to DX11 vs 12.

DirectX 12 is smooth for me on my Intel A770 LE 16 GB GPU.
4K, Ultra, TAA
i9-9900K or 15-13600K.

It may be that Dx12 stutter is from AMD CPUs or Nvidia GPUs. idk.

No stutters here with DX12 and performance is good with rtx 6650 xt, 5600x, 32gb, TAA, high to ultra settings, 1080p. Seems better than DX11 so I’ve stuck with it.
