I am quite amazed about how much love to detail went into the Balkan-route Bush trip. However, I am quite disappointed by the Tour of Japan. There is no description of the route at all and from a reasonable cruise altitude, not much can be seen since the level of detail is so low. After a few minuted into the flight the center and the standby display quit working. That and my landing at the old Hiroshima city airport marked the most interesting part of the Tour of Japan…

You could fly a tour of Japan from the ones in my Flight Planner.

I started the tour last night but ended up crashing into the water after a few POIs in, but that’s okay because I didn’t really have the time for the full trip. I was expecting it to be more like a bush trip with descriptions of the landmarks and scenery that I’m passing to make me go ooohh and aahhh over the graphics. While I could still be in awe at what I saw, I can only tell you that I saw a bridge. Not where it was or if it’s a famous bridge.

Today I thought I might give it a second chance, fly low altitude to appreciate all the love to detail, that went into the Japan update. The screenshots show the view I got after about 5 minutes into the flight, right next to where I was supposed to fly according to the flightplan…
I‘am sure that a lot of work went into the Japan update. I simply cannot find out how to appreciate this when even the demo tour seems bugged from the start on…

It’s most likely a glitch in the DEM data supplied by the Japanese government, I’m sure these glitches will be smoothed out in time. The upgrade in the quality of the mesh data is massive - went from a 30m mesh to a 5m one.
I agree that it should have been picked up by the testers though.

5 attempts to complete Tour of Japan.
3 CTDs after 1.5 / 2 hrs of flight ( I normally don’t have CTDs unless flying the 787 )
2 Autopilot assisted suicides.

I completed the tour. The waypoints in the FMS are named after what they want to showcase while flying.
To get the most out of it, I enabled the markers for POI’s and Airports. Anyway, I think it’s not the best way to showcase the updated visuals of Japon landmarks. I agree they had to put descriptions and images in the flight log, tha same as the bush trips have right now.
I had two main problems with this Tour:
- Sim crashed and CTD after landing at Tokio airport
- While FPS were good 95% of the time flying at 2500/3500 ft, the last leg showcasing Tokio city was terrible, 15/20 FPS and a stutter fest. Landing was hard because the amount of stuttering and very low FPS.

my screen went off at mount Fuji, so i landed at tokio but i still don’t know in wich runway LOL

Ha. I feel for you! I tried the tour and I figured I’d skip a few sections, so did the Sim rate thing … "R/CTL/ + Then the plane dolphined so much that I was going up and down almost 1000 ft and crashed into some trees!
I made my first real attempt at this tour tonight. Hand flying only so I wouldn’t run into AP issues as reported by others. I made it past Mt. Fuji, on the way to the next way point (Fishar I think?) and CTD through no fault of my own. I might just wait until after the next patch to try this again.
I CTD’d when using SimRate on the 2nd try, since I didn’t want to sit through the 2 hours I’d already done on the previous try - when it CTD’d approaching Tokyo
