Disastrous Performance/Framerate after MSFS Basic Update for City Update 7

There is sadly a huge fps drop at Cockpit view now with 1.37.19.0 small update. Sadly also stuttering, lag spikes are kinda back, external view and drone camera fps also suffered but not as much as cockpit views. This was to test pure performance differences. No Traffic, Clear sky, Same graphic options, Exact same airport files, same gpu driver, almost same time of day. No rolling cache. All tests done with clearing shaders and sceneryindexes + Disk Cleanup.

1.37.18.0 - EBBR | 169R | Aerosoft – Brussels - DLSS Quality Preset E - 96.8fps

1.37.19.0 - EBBR | 169R | Aerosoft – Brussels - DLSS Quality Preset E - 81.3fps

1.37.18.0 - KJFK - | A7 | inibuilds - DLSS Quality Preset E - 93.5fps

1.37.19.0 - KJFK - | A7 | inibuilds - DLSS Quality Preset E - 75.4fps

I was comparing everything here, you can check imgur link for all comparisons

Isn’t the GDK console only? So even if they put it back it should have no effect on the PC version, I assume.

The latest update has also given me many more stutters than I had with the SU15 update. PLEASE fix this =(

Why is it always one step forward, two backk. :-/

I just happened to have a screenshot of KDFW from .18 and I went back in today and took an almost identical screenshot in .19. The performance is basically the same. The first screenshot was taken with the showcase camera in full screen mode so the same with the second one. I do have an AMD cpu and gpu (click on gamer pic for details).

I’m not denying there may be an issue I’m just providing an additional data point to help find the root cause. Have you tried full screen mode? Perhaps this is Nvidia specific or something to do with a Win 11 update? Just grabbing at straws

1.37.18

1.37.19

I tried it with and without fullscreen - no difference.
And inside cockpit and outside cockpit - no difference.
It is worst after initial load (FPS: 6-9!).
If I wait some minutes, it comes to 10-12
After starting aircraft and flying 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes FPS reaches 18-20.
So much longer I am at the same location, it goes better, but today not over 21 FPS.
Also interesting: If I have f.e. FPS 12 and make a active break fĂŒr 20 sec. then the FPS increases to 14-16 during the break and persists at that value after the break
!?
At Main menue i have 60 FPS.

Don’t forget: I’m located in Germany, and wie have a long weekend with holiday at Tuesday and rainy weather. I suppose many more people use the MSFS and generate load to the MSFS Servers in Germany.
This, or ther SU15 (.18) and (.19) Updates of the sim is the problem in my opinion!
I hat never such bad performance at initial load ever before!
We will see next week, if it is as before or not. If not SU15 is the problem!

F.Y.I. additionally I putted my system data in my Profil.

I doubt you should be getting that FPS with a 3050. What are your graphics settings? Also, have a look a traffic - not just AI aircraft; look at the eye candy traffic such as cars, fauna etc and scale those down as they have been set to default (quite high) after updates for me.

What’s your LOD also?

Edit; also, photogrammetry introduces massive FPS drops for many, including me. Try disabling this and also uninstalling the cities packs as well.

It runs before SU 15 with a good Performance between 21 to 25 from initial load on and during flight. Sometimes I had FPS 30 during flight. That was ok.
I have nothing changed in grafic settings!!!
It’s not a problem of the system or of installed Addons or AI traffic. That’s all as before I got SU15 (Upd.18/.19).
See the screenshot, MSFS uses less than 20% of CPU AND of GPU !
Also the system memory is only used to 50%
At the moment I got the worst case from beginning of this thread: FPS 3 after initial load. than smoothly growing.
It’s a problem of MSFS, either SU15 (.18/.19) or the load of the MSFS Server in Germany, region bavaria.

Now look: I have done NOTING in MSFS, only wait ca. 10 Min. and written the post before in Chrome Browser.
And now I have FPS 24 !
And the system load from MSFS has increased (of course it is doing more and faster) to 30% CPU and 45% GPU.
It is a problem of Initial Load, and it is new!

The biggest thing that affects performance is live traffic, if you have this turned on depending on how busy it is your machine will be impacted. And you’ll see noticeable differences when its less busy (for example early in the morning) than during the day or evening.

If you want a reasonable consistent experience I tend to turn off live traffic and just have live players on.

I have and had no live traffic on. Only KI traffic. And also I didn’t change that. That’s all not the root cause.

It was NOT so BEFORE SU15 (Upd. .18/.19) !!!
Or the MSFS Server in Germany are overloaded, we will see next week in the evening, that is the time I played normaly.

I noticed in all of your screenshots above with poor fps, the manipulators section showed an extremely large value. For what I understand, the manipulators section displays the update and render times of objects as the sim is running. Third party add-ons can sometimes greatly increase the number of objects that need to be rendered so I would recommend to empty your community folder and see if that improves fps.

I know you said you didn’t change anything however there may be a 3rd party add-on that is not working correctly with one of the recent updates after SU15. If the fps improves to pre-SU15 levels then you can try adding back the 3rd party add-ons one at a time to see which one breaks your fps.

SU14 was fine for me also. SU15 was touted as a big performance improvement, and I saw none of that, and the mini update that came after wrecked it for me. I don’t know what they did but I should not have to reduce my LOD to 50 while flying over countryside to get 50fps.

Back pre-SU5 I used to run a 9900K/1080 combo, and I swear I got better performance then at LOD 200/200, than I do now on an 11900/3090 at LOD 50/200.

Things have been sliding from release to release, and I would have been happy if they had left things as they were in SU14, but this is too much.

Same here! I have lost 20% FPS since the release of mandatory update v1.37.
I only fly in VR and cannot fly if my FPS compromised.

To all folks experiencing performance losses after the recent updates, please submit requests to Microsoft here:

We need Microsoft’s attention or else, we may be left with an inoperable software until MSFS 2024!

Reading through this thread it seems clear to me the majority of posters were happy with SU14 & SU15.

They changed nothing on their systems other than the small update, plus CU7, and it all went to pot.

I haven’t got around to it yet, but I was planning on removing CU7, and even potentially removing all CU, and WU packages.

It’s quite frustrating going from a healthily running SU14, hearing promises of improved performance coming with SU15, not really seeing that, then being crippled by the .19 update, and CU7.

I have a standard test that I have used in the past to check my system, and I have yet to try that. Spawning in the Steam 172 at a particular gate at EGLL.

Another one I have used is at EGLC, and looking towards the city, and dome. Time was I could get 46fps there, at 150/200, scooting around with the drone camera. Hopefully I will have time to check this again tonight. But I’m not confident, and frankly at this point 2024 can’t come soon enough, as I feel less, and less desire to fire up the sim with this history of progressively deteriorating performance.

Those getting 90fps plus already may not notice the difference, but when you are working with 50-60, every little drop has an impact.

I actually remember the golden days when I was able to edit the config files to to push up to LOD 500, when the UI could only support 200. Those days are sadly long gone.

Just to be clear I’m not getting any of the stuttering, or other horrible effects, that others have reported. I have just had to lower my TLOD to 50 to get the same performance that I was getting at TLOD 150 in SU14, and for the most part SU15.

We are continuing to monitor all platforms with users reporting FPS/Stutter issues. With such a vast array of reports, and different systems being used we are looking to gather as much data as possible. We ask users to test for the same results with all Community folder addons removed as this is very commonly the cause of stutters/FPS issues. I’ve seen a few comments on the forums recently where users disabled their Community folder and found the performance improved instantly.

It could also be graphics driver/cache related. I personally always do a clean reinstall of graphics drivers and clear all caches both in the sim, and for my graphics driver, whenever I can and this has helped a lot with keeping steady performance. There’s other factors such as bottlenecking, VRAM usage etc. that all play a contributing part.

Just know that we hear you though and are aware of users reports!

Thanks

Hi, I can confirm that after updated sim to latest version 1.37.19.0, performance is significally worse compared to .18. The 1.37.18.0 version was fine (medium settings with 80 LODS and smooth 60 FPS almost everywhere). Now low FPS (ca 50-55) and stuttering.

I have empty community folder, rolling cache is disabled. I did a clean reinstall of graphics drivers and clear all caches (in the sim and graphics driver). This time it doesn’t help.

PC, RTX 3080 i9-10900, 32G RAM, 300M connection.

Some users reported stutters with the latest NVidia drivers. I experienced that too, rolled-back to the previous version and stutters are gone.

I don’t remember which Nvidia driver I have off the top of my head, but I’ve been running that version for at least the last year or so, so quite a few versions back I expect.

Dear Mods, CMs. I was testing performance differences since SU15 release on [[Polls] Sim Update 15 (1.37.18.0) Discussion] topic. I started a imgur link to test differences. Nvidia 537.58 (not the latest buggy one). There was great performance increase on cockpit with SU15 release, i also realised i didn’t update DLSS files, tested again with new dlss files and performance increase was even more after tests. Sadly after 1.37.19.0 i tested again with exact same conditions and performance drop was there so obvious. I also DMed CM Jummivana if i can post my results here since i don’t want to spread negativitiy. He/she said go ahead please post them. You can check my last msgs and main imgur link for all results. All tests are done with same conditions, same shader cache/sceneryındexes cleaning and more. Anyways. I am waiting MSFS2024. Have a great day you all.

I’ve seen a similar impact since this latest small release, more pervasive at large international airports - so something has changed, not sure if it’s client or server side.

PS I don’t use FSTL injector, only native live traffic (but with AIG/FSTL models).

Edit
In fact I recall after completing a flight, heading straight to the forums to see if others were reporting a similar hit on performance.
