Discussion: E3 Announcement

None of these links are about MSFS.

Before MSFS was launched on PC, much publicity was given to the three compatibility modes for PC.
I see no other obvious contenders for compatibility modes. I would expect Xbox settings for different screen resolutions, Xbox doesn’t come with it’s own monitor after all.

True, but Phil Spencer has stated in interviews that 60fps is the eventual target and existing games which use far more system and graphics resources than MSFS can run in 4K at 60fps on Xbox - so why wouldn’t MSFS do the same eventually? 30fps is the current estimate as reported here: https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-flight-simulator-on-xbox-series-xs-will-run-at-30fps-new-xbox-peripherals-to-be-revealed-soon

As of now, the only 3rd party controllers supported are ones that are XBOX One compatible. The existing Honeycomb Alpha won’t be XBOX compatible. Honeycomb have new version of the Alpha in the pipe that has the XBOX security chip and will work. This new Alpha will also have a 2 port USB hub to allow you to connect existing Honeycomb Bravo and the upcoming Charlie pedals. Honeycomb will also be releasing a 3 port USB hub that’s XBOX compatible for folks who already own the original Alpha.

Logitech panels won’t be supported unless there’s some behind the scenes stuff going on between Logitech and MS that we’re not aware of.

XBOX doesn’t support multiple screens, so undocking instruments to another screen won’t be an option at all and won’t be ever.

For stuff like Vatsim, I suspect we’ll see that in the future in the form of an integration with MSFS, much like Navigraph charts can now be displayed in the game via the top toolbar. As it currently exists, we won’t be able to use Vatsim or any other 3rd party tools like Little NavMap that rely on SimConnect, since that won’t be offered as an option.

How about Microsofts OWN Stick?
I curently fly with a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2, and i love it on the Windows version.

Don’t hold your breath that they’ll be supporting such an ancient piece of hardware on their new console. If it doesn’t work on the last gen XBOX, it won’t work on the new one.

The idea is that they sell the console at a loss and make their money on licensing, services, and new peripherals.

What I do not understand is, it seems that DLCs that you buy for the Steam version do not work in the MS Store version? Why? You buy it in the in game marketplace and should it not be bound to your microsoft account in the game?

Can you help this guy?

I totally agree with you. As far as Microsoft and Asobo are concerned FS2020 is clearly created with a lot of love, care and attention. From that point of view its most certainly about more than simply making money from it. However my quote ‘its all about making money’ is in reply to a suggestion that the Top Gun add on might be Xbox exclusive. Knowing a bit about how the inner workings of the games industry function as far as movie tie-ins and and licensing go it is definitely all about the money at the end of the day and the size of the install base. Has anything been said about the price of the Top Gun DLC? I’d be very surprised if its free like the world updates.

Or performance improvement has been delayed to xbox release and will be what they should have been at the beginning (and perhaps PC was a test version for the true MSFS, the xbox one.

I’m pretty sure as far as the team is concerned from Jorg on down to the Asobo team, this is the case. As well as with all the other folks working directly on it. They are a truly passionate group. And it shows.

But at the higher levels, it’s about money. MSFS is not only a standalone moneymaker, but also a showcase of Microsoft’s cloud technologies and how they can be used in concert with each other. That’s Microsoft’s primary concern as a corporate entity.

And this tie-in with the Top Gun movie release is just like any other gaming tie in with a movie in the past. It’s meant to cash in on the current “big thing”. And MSFS happens to be positioned to do that in a way no other game is. No matter how bad it is (and I don’t mean to suggest it will be bad), you’re going to have a ton of excited teenagers on their XBOX wanting to get MSFS so they can also fly the same planes they saw in the movie. And with the eye candy they’ll be presented, they’ll be willing to either fork out the money for MSFS or for the Gamepass sub required to access it in order to play it.

That said, what will be the make or break thing is if they’ll actually have working weapons systems. Because it’s going to grow old really fast to most gamers if they can’t shoot down other people. No pew = no play.

It says a lot about how amazing the sim looks that you have to pause the clips of the trailer to see that it is actually captured footage from the sim and not the movie. I really hope we get these pre selectable camera views in the finished thing.

Yup
@Severeeno is a bit confused. The memory allocation has been improved, but overall performance was quoted as 3x the performance.

I’m excited about the console release but I’m not sure about 60fps ultra settings.
We shall see on July 27th.
Suggest you read HXArdito post he gets the idea.

I am looking forward to this, but when you look closely you can see that it is an addon rather than something like a full price modul in DCS (the plane model exterior and interior does not look nearly as detailed like in DCS, the pilot body movement after the catapult start looks wrong - there isn’t any, the carrier deck is almost empty, and so on.) Again this will be a cool addon and I hope for fast low altitude flights like you can do with the F15 right now, but I am sure this will nicely coexist with the DCS supercarrier and F18 module. It probably will even attract some new users to check out the other flight simulator.
I love that we have those two top notch simulators on the PC that do stuff that we could only dream of 10 years ago.

I guess its still in development though. That trailer will have been from a work in progress. I really hope they add a bit of life to the carrier decks. I’ve got that carrier module pay ware thats available. Its not a bad effort but the carriers feel devoid of any life and its not very immersive.

Sry, i dont understand, what „compatibility modes“?

I expect the xbox to have 4k settings and a performance mode on lower settings/resolution.
