Thanks Jayne.
Approach flyback bug - Not started
This is literally a core feature. If We can’t even complete a flight, and this isn’t even prioritized now, when Devs think to fix this?
In general agile software development methodologies (e.g. SCRUM), there are two (at least) backlog types—product and sprint…
A product backlog is a list of items not currently selected for implementation/development. It is important to note that some backlog items may never be implemented.
A sprint backlog is a list of items currently being worked on for this iteration (for an upcoming release or near-future release).
You can complete a flight. Stop being dramatic. It will be handled.
And you can keep making turns in the air for hours. But that is not how the sim should work. There isn’t any word about when this will be handled. And is one of the most basics things of a flight. Departure, route, and arrival.
I wish that the performance issues and FPS will be addressed in a hotfix as soon as possible.
Me, like many others, can’t fly at the moment.
I hope until the Aerosoft CRJ is released we will have a solution for that situation.
Super disappointed there isn’t any mention of the major performance issues this update introduced. Really difficult to play atm. Really hoping for a hotfix in the very near future.
Go watch the Q&A from yesterday, they mention it there
I was so fortunate to get no stuttering into LAX with the 787 but the fps was dropping like crazy on final descent
Call me old-fashioned, but I think the onus is less on the customer to search through their video for an explanation, and more for them to provide one with their updates.
I guess that would be a good idea to mention it during the day of the development update since many aren’t aware of the Q&A. I almost missed out if I didn’t look through these forums
Good point – of the 2+ Million (?) who have purchase MSFS 2020 only a VERY SMALL percentage read the forum, or watch MSFS twitch streams.
ie the Previous one earlier this year was viewed by about 17,000. times
An impressive number but that is less than 0.85% of those who purchased MSFS 2020 – hardly a good representation.
I wonder how that percentage correlates to the percentage of private pilots in the general population? I’d bet it’s higher…
@Jummivana, Jayne, could you please comment on removal of “inactive” no-snow and no-shadow items from the SDK Dev Mode? Were they inactivated for some reason such as replacement with something? Asking because no-snow flag has been the only way to prevent snow accumulation in airport interiors, is it gone forever now?
Regarding the adverse yaw, most people, including the developer agree that the new Just Flight PA-28R has virtually none. The developer says that they found it virtually impossible to implement.
It’s been ‘interesting’, shall we say? The specific point about adverse yaw is that it’s one area Asobo have stated that they need to improve. In the older sims, when using correct coefficients, yaw from aileron in an aircraft of this size should be in the region of -0.02 to -0.07 (Roskam: Airplane Flight Dynamics and Automatic Flight Controls Part I). In this Arrow, I’ve set it to -9.5 and there’s the faintest glimpse of a pause before the nose starts to swing into the turn.
They also commented on the rudder:
The rudder is a bug-bear of mine in this. It has been set correctly in terms of surface area, max angle of deflection, coefficients and damping levels. Yet no matter what I did it just would not feel ‘normal’ - adjustments to any / all of the modifiers don’t seem to have an effect. It may be that I have to give it an unrealistic size or deflection angle? Probably something I will continue to look at as the Turbo versions are worked on.
I’m only slightly consoled by the fact that I think rudder behaviour in this sim is very unrealistic in general anyway!
And on the stall characteristics
Ha ha, there was a fairly flippant in tone but serious in ‘point being made’ video doing the rounds on one of the sub-forums here (I think) a couple of months ago, and it demonstrates perfectly a flaw with the base flight model - stalls only occur in this sim at a specific point: bank angles, harsh pulls at higher speeds, none of them have any effect on the stall speed of the aircraft.
e.g. Stall speed clean - 60kts. Stall speed in a 60 degree bank is 85kts. But in the sim, put it in a 60 degree bank and you can fly tight circuits, figures of 8 even at low level right down to 60kts. That’s not something I can fix, that’s the base sim’s ridiculously basic understanding of a stall. Here’s hoping for a decent core flight model upgrade!
My point here is not to just throw out lots of criticisms. Watching the live stream, Seb said he had been up and flown various planes, looking for problems, and he didn’t seem to find anything unduly concerning. It just seems to me that there is a disconnect between what Asobo are seeing, and what other people are seeing, including developers with 25 years of experience.
It’s fantastic news that MS have forged a partnership with Working Title. It would be great if they could continue to reach out and consult with people within the industry who have years of experience.
Did the developer try setting assistance options to Hard?
How is it even possible to cut down the visual fidelity (trees LOD) and also reduce performance. We are getting the worst of both worlds here. Extremely disappointed.
Does the update to Orbx London make it compatible now?
I have the marketplace version and I updated it today (Had to re-install it, then restart the sim to get the update as well). I am impressed with how it all looks now.
