We are pleased to announce that Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available via Xbox Cloud Gaming to players using the Xbox One console, lower-spec PCs, and other supported devices such as Android and iOS phones & tablets.
Some of the great benefits of accessing Microsoft Flight Simulator via Xbox Cloud Gaming include:
Microsoft Flight Simulator can now be played on Xbox One. Many players have been asking for just that. You can launch the simulator through the Xbox dashboard and quickly dive into a high-fidelity experience (up to 1080p and 30fps). You can now explore the planet from any of the supported devices and quickly take off as there is no need to install the simulator on your hard drive.
Microsoft Flight Simulator can also be played beyond the console on supported mobile phones, tablets and lower-spec PCs. Standard controller inputs from Bluetooth controllers such as Xbox Wireless Controller for cloud gaming are supported.
The multiplayer experience for all simmers is identical as on the PC and Xbox Series X|S, allowing everyone to share the same airspace regardless of the device they are using.
World Updates I-VI are streamed automatically to all players and all your previous purchases on Xbox Series X|S as well as the full Xbox marketplace are available.
With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you can use MSFS on XBox One and Smartphone… only with a bluetooth Xbox Controler for now. This is a real giant leap to ease access to our favorite passion.
For sure, there are limitations and requirements (Xbox controler only so far no mouse, no keyboard… and obviously no device like joysticks, high speed internet access, only Market Place’s addons available) but this is a giant leap forward. The Flight Simulation community with grow up faster and faster for the benefit of all!
Silly question as I have never used Xbox Cloud: does/will this also play on Linux and/or any given low-spec laptop? I think Xbox Cloud supports both.
edit: just realized this service is only available for specific countries (which obviously don’t include mine), so there’s $1 wasted. Oh well.
edit2: VPN seems to have done the job, plays fine so far on a lowly Ubuntu laptop.
edit3 (and last): for the life of me, I cannot understand how people can play this with a single gamepad. I used a spare Xbox360 controller and it took me minutes how to figure out the most basic controls, much less efficiently control throttle, mixture, flaps etc. Hopefully Cloud can support more advanced controllers such as a basic HOTAS.
Impressive, first time WU 1 to 6 were install, you just need to install other DLC (including World Update 7… strange), fairly quick setup. Second time, no need to reinstall, they were still there. If you ask, DLC aren’t download on your device, all on their server (hence the installation speed).
Input lag and perf as usual for Xcloud.
Setup: Samsung Fold 2, GameSir X2, WiFi (Will test in 4G later this weekend).
This is an issue if you’re an existing MSFS player on PC or Xbox Series X|S and have made changes to the keybinds for the Xbox controller. To resolve this issue, first launch Microsoft Flight Simulator from your original (non-cloud) install and reset the Controller profile to “Default” as shown in the screenshot below. After that, exit MSFS and re-launch the Xbox Cloud Gaming version and it should function properly. We have logged this issue in our bug tracking tool and aim to provide a better experience that does not require this work-around in the future.
The Xbox Cloud Gaming experience for Microsoft Flight Simulator uses the Xbox version of the sim, thus any limitations that currently exist for Xbox (including not being able to connect to the Vatsim network) will exist on the cloud version too.
The screenshot was taken from the PC version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. If you’re an existing player and you’ve changed the profile of your Controller, you have to restore it to the Default profile before launching MSFS on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Trial and error. Use what you have and see if it works before buying something else. But so far this has been EXACTLY the XBOX Series S version and has worked with the compatible hardware I have tried. Although I mostly have used the controller.
