I just hope to find you guys on the lobbies. At launch I felt they were always full. Had a health problem and came back some 5 days latter to find it hard to find a race with more then a couple of opponents, if any.
A real time WebSite depiction of number of planes logged in to fly in each Class, and a historical “Number of players vs Time” Graph, would go a long way to help determine the best times to fly – assuming MS was prepared to allow that data to be public.
I can dream !!!
players could also be rewarded not only for wining, but also for participating, like custom paint job for completing 100 races, to keep them interested
OK CB fair enough, thx for the reply … and maybe you’re not the a_h_ I mistook you to be too : )
I’m not a pilot, just a long time wannabe who didn’t get much past ground school, and long time simmer (since FS4). But I think an elevator trim that neutralizes stick pressure should be the minimum drag situation? I tried many circuits in the sim with positive /negative and neutral trim, and had best control/times set neutral at Reno. I fiddled with rudder control and trim to no avail. that I could detect.
Does Asobo know about how that unrealistic time was attained? I’m not a programmer or coder so anyone can do it. I think it’s not wind, but maybe the effect of OAT on modeled engine preformance? since +240 mph was attained around the circuit. This was cool, crisp winter condition.
As a member of a local warbird museum, with a restored Harvard I can access, when I get a chance I’ll ask for a ride and talk to the pilot and crew how they would approach Reno , and how it might apply to this sim.

Jeff Cat NL wiped out \0/
would be interesting to see what he’s capable of on his own
also curious now if score is really capped at 2500 or we can go above that
finally.

Not quite there yet, with the fair ranking. Take a look at ranking 618, which should not be there. NOT saying it’s the players fault though. Most probably a software bug. Not judging here.
In case you missed it.
While I am thankful for the update, a change log would have been helpful.
The change I see is that NOBODY is now #1 !!!
That’s one way to eliminate the Who is #1 complaints !!
And I believe that today, “Jeff Cat NL” got removed so everyone should be Happy now.
I’ll never, ever understand why people cheat in video games. It’s such a hollow victory. There are no rewards, and at the end of the day, you know you cheated, so I’m at a loss as to what can be gained from it.
I haven’t fully organized all of my thoughts yet but thought it’d be good to start sharing some ideas.
I saw some talk above of doing prizes and monetizing that further, I actually would go in a totally different direction. I think that Reno base package should be a huge loss leader. Looks like people do not fancy paying $20, make it cheaper, do free week-ends and events, give more people a way to race. Why? Because it is not great to have a multiplayer mode with few players. We need more people interested. There is plenty of opportunity to still make money: keep the full package. Provide non-equalized races where players can make aircraft setups (which would probs require buying full package), …
I think also providing more info to players would help match making:
- When are people active?
- Which categories are active? Can I queue into multiple categories and get matched in whichever has players first?
I’d love to see a race type based on lap time as well: remove best and worst lap, race result is best of the remaining 3-5 lap times. Something like that.
Currently it feels like a win is pretty much free once you have 1s ahead because turbulence is so bad you can take no risk when first and still keep the gap. IDK if turbulence is realistic I’m just saying this is something that bothers me a bit.
Collision talk I agree. In current form I think it should be removed until a better solution is found.
I’d love for us to build a community but we need more flexibility, for instance, can we get a way to build custom maps anywhere in the world map? Can we get a text channel on discord to talk?
Then there is a few smaller things but those are my biggest things I wanted to mention. Good luck to all otherwise.
Q: I am 1s off per lap in unlimited, I get good times in any other category, is there a trick similar to T6 prop pitch I need to cut that off?
Can you open a support ticket and report it that way? Should be pretty secure and confidential…
Good idea Stoopy : ) thx I’ll do that / OG
My greatest frustration is the wake turbulence. They need to tone it down. I’ve done plenty of formation flying and have never once been thrown 100 feet to the outside of a turn when tucked up into another airplane.
I feel I’m the odd one out, but I actually like the collision mechanic. As in real life, we have to fly defensively. I feel that the proximity arrows not only work great, they actually are an unrealistic “spider sense” that allows the pilot to have a magical situational awareness.
Just like the energy management, optimal circuit line, engine management (it seems to be just prop pitch for now), I feel that collision avoidance is a key factor to determine the winning player.
Risking giving away one thing I believe is my competitive advantage, what I do to try to avoid collisions is fly high when I’m passing. Higher than the circuit limit. Anfterall, we have a huge 5 seconds or so to come down and not be penalized. If I’m being passed, I just try to slightly change my altitude away from the other player, since he can actually be faster than me and deserve to pass (and not send us both one second behind due to a crash).
In fact, crashing has a really low cost. We only lose about one second of the race. Still remembering that race up there with @Jimijoke2100 , we crashed at least once and we still finhished in the top positions, passing the other players (yes, I’m still ignoring my two penalties!). I’m finding hard to find a race where there is more than one really competitive opponent. If I crash with him or her, I just keep flying, afterall, the race is really just between us two.
I’m not a real pilot, but I know that wake turbulence is a thing with big airplanes even flying slow (during takeoff and landings). These can flip a small airplane and also can disturb another big airplane. Sorry if I sound condescending, I’m really not trying to be. Take a look at this video (https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/TEjbg_2yuFI where Mentour Pilot discusses how the wake from an A330 almost made a 737 abort a takeoff (sorry, I spoiled the video).
Now, even if these racing planes are extremely light and small, they are flying really fast (double than that of above example) and close to each other and pulling extreme G forces. I have no doubt in my mind that the wake turbulence is somewhere that intense.
Flew each class once, probably won’t ever fly the race stuff again
now that was weird, you’re ahead of me on my screen and it looked like you won
lol, something strage’s going on, I captured it and will try to upload the video
