Discussion + Poll: Sim Update 10 (1.27.21.0)

how are you measuring frame rate? I want to make sure I am doing it correctly. I just hit Windows Key-G for the Xbox Game Bar and read it there.

I take the counter from the OpenXR Toolkit for VR. My numbers are an average and only serve to compare the different versions on my computer.

For pancake, CapFrameX is suitable for proper measurements.

ok I am not VR so it would not apply to me, just curious of how everyone is measuring FR I think I would go insane if I had VR on lol. like stepping into another plane of existence, no pun intended…

Isn’t that what everyone really wants? :joy:

There are sometimes issues (not specific to MSFS) with laptops when they require specific manufacturer provided drivers to run properly and the drivers are sometimes a little old. I can run my HP laptop with drivers downloaded directly from nvidia. Yesterday I updated a game ready driver (dated may’22) to one from august (I’m not near my laptop, so version number unknown). I had now problems with neither version. Since DX12 is an experimential feature (hope I’m right) and my GTX graphics card is not meant for for ray traceing I see no sense in switching over to it especially now that it became even faster with FX11.

Even switched to DLSS and DX12. Now testing the mods I’ve been using and they seem just fine. Cheers, Asobo!

My 3090 is getting a workout every flight in DX12. Average use of 99% and very high VRAM usage with my current settings. I’m also finally GPU limited and it’s great!

Only using just under 12gb vram?

The 12700KF may not be available any more at Xmas. Will be the 13700KF then. A lot faster.

Unless you have 95-100% gpu usage, you’re not gpu limited.

If Microsoft is to be believed, they intend to continue to add functionality for 10+ years. I think that means that we’re all going to have to upgrade our hardware over time to keep up (but that’s what the real simmers want anyhow!)

It would most likely be unrealistic to expect to run the same hardware you have today for the next 10 years. I’ve already swapped out the core of my system once since it released, and plan to again when Intel’s 13th gen chips are released.

It makes me wonder how this will work for the console version. Will there be a point where they have to state that the current, and last gen XBox is supported, but not older?

Hmmmm… we’ll see.

Yeah, I’m getting great performance now and my rig isn’t exactly top-end.

Got almost everything on ā€˜Ultra’, frame rate locked at 30FPS and it’s nice and smooth.

Could get higher frame-rates but I like the eye candy and that’s the sweet spot.

CPU: i7-9700
GPU RTX 2070Super
32GB RAM
Dual monitors running @ 60hz

New Nvidia Studio driver
Using DLSS on ā€˜Quality’ and DX12 enabled.

I have Microsoft Store version. This update was installed automatically when I loaded the sim
In the notes for this new version I read that F18A was improved adding some instrument. The result is that , now, if you try to fly this airplain the game crashes.

Night flying is broke. Brightness not working correctly - may as well fly with a blindfold over my eyes.

I reinstalled the nvidia driver with DDU.
Now get good 32FPS on the test round under DX12. But unfortunately I also regularly get the warning about the bad graphics card and FS stopps.

DX11 with DLSS/Quality runs fine, 42FPS but slightly reduced quality. Water masks sometimes look really frightening. :see_no_evil:

I’m sticking with it. Looking at the best performance/graphics combo of the last 3 system updates, SU08 is still the winner.

Night flying is IFR for a reason.

The lighting is not good in SU10. Cockpits are way too dark, and this has had a negative impact elsewhere - night flying is too dark as a result, unlike before. I know what IFR is, by the way; that wasn’t the problem.
