Discussion + Poll: Sim Update 6 (1.20.6.0)

I guess you’re out of luck then. Nothing to do but wait. I hope they fix this soon!

Same. Doesn’t break the game entirely, but it is super distracting.

A powerful sim update, surely one of the best so far.
There’s lots of experience and lessons learned which is evident in this one now.

Sim update 6 was done with utmost care - and the first noticeable effect of the SU6 manifests itself right away at the start of the update process in the “green” style, with the update wizard having been set to push itself in the background with a few additional simple optimizations thus relieving (especially) less able hardware configurations and drawing less power.

It is Asobo sending the message “we hear you folks!” right at the START.
I like that one. :slightly_smiling_face:

Just to mention the unfortunate server outage that probably most of users felt for a few hours - there is a certain number of Azure-reliant industries and services which’s importance and scale lie at the planetary level far beyond the scopes which our little flight simulator will ever even approach - so I shall use the opportunity to send my thanks and laud to the engineers at Microsoft exascale for a swift resolution.

Sim update 6 has a lot to offer, all sorts of quality-of-life fixes, smaller details such as the way the VFR map is rendered, then the way the resources are handled, also various events have been assigned a lower priority and so details that used to demand rendering or processing right away while they absolutely could wait a few seconds - now properly wait a few seconds.

Weather is indeed…yeah particularly good improvements with the atmospheric pressure.
Certain gauges work more precise, this is like, everywhere I turn post Sim Update 6 there are smaller fixes and improvements just “flashing” from all sides, impossible not to notice.
Very quickly they amount to one combined, coherent, and improved user experience that just brings a smile to my face. I cannot wait for the sim update 7!
Continue.

This weird autopilot (roll axis) behavior is still present in SU6:

I am getting “bad_module_info” information after Update 6. Anybody with the same problem?

Install went fine. For me.
I’ve done about 2 or 3 hours of flying and no crash to desktop..
Unlock my Nvidia graphics card to maximum 40 frames per second. I have most of my settings on extreme. I used the slides out to 400. Background load on medium to high. Run at 4K what scale down at 90%.
Performance is stable, as usual on busy airports on the ground frames can drop down to 29 fps but don’t notice that. In the air 35 frames per second. Depends on the scenery l can get 40 frames per second.
It looks absolutely stunning. What’s most impressed me is that on the ground aeroplane seem less squirrelly.
This is just my view.

Well done Asobo and MS, this is one of the better updates.

Well, this has been my experience with SU6…

And, I don’t know if this should go to 3rd party addons or here.. but here goes…

First off…the graphics are fantastic. The FPS is great. Smoothness of controls are great.

I am flying the TBM930 with the WT G3000 in community folder and that is all.
So… big Kudo’s to Asobo.

Now the not so good…
And I don’t know if this should be addressed to Working Title or here, but I’m posting it here.

  1. The artificial horizon on the PFD froze
  2. The whole screen on the MFD froze
  3. could not turn off audible warning for brakes
  4. could not activate taxi lights
  5. could not activate pulse lights

I know that the PFD and MFD issues are probably Working Title issues. But, what about the warning alarm and taxi lights, and pulse lights?

I still consider this a huge success overall to Asobo.. Big Kudo’s and thanks for your hard work!!!

PS. should we post these issues here or on the Feedback Hub?

I live in Sweden and yesterday I got a 12MB update only. It said that the rest of around 10GB was already installed although I’m still on the 1.9 version and not the 2.0, I have restarted my computer several times, logged out from Microsoft both on windows and the Xbox app but I still cant see the update, also started the sim in hope it will say and update is required and point me to the store. The last 2-3 updates I have had to uninstall the sim completely and reinstall it. I really do not think that this will work specially when You start installing many addons and you have to reinstall everything every time there is an update to the sim. Is there anything I’m missing or that I can try, isn’t there any like offline exe fil that triggers the update?

Thanks!

Yep seems working fine. 1 ctd with FBW320 went to print wx and that was too much for it. FPS taking a bit of a hit and was prone to a stutter. slides will need tweaking. Will do a long flight later which is where my fps take a huge hit

Thank you so much for these comparison videos. You should maybe start a separate thread for them, it is a pity that they are buried in this huge one here.

Some conclusions I took out of the videos:

  • with same settings (200/200), viewing distance increased significantly with SU6. There is a small fps cost for this and higher memory usage. I guess this explains the performance decrease, some people are seeing with SU6.
  • with increased LOD to 400/200, viewing distance is again significantly higher but there is also a significant fps impact.

Sure, sorry, should have added this:

i9 10900K, 64Gb RAM, RTX 3080
Settings are ultra everything (LOD settings per the video)
2560x1440 (2k)

Still have my same sim breaking issue of loosing control of the mouse cursor on Xbox Series X. I loose it at the world map, or in the cockpit, or when changing options sometimes. It’s very random, but also consistent. It will always happen soon after starting the sim.

I say sim breaking, as this is a major part of the sim. And the only way to get it back is to completely restart the sim. Using the Xbox controller cursor is just not a good experience.

Fix the mouse cursor crashing soon or you loose a cash cow flight sim enthusiast.

Makes me sad, as I never had this issue when the sim first launched on Xbox. After all the “hot fixes” it’s been on and off BROKEN.

May I know what GPU are you using? Thanks

It’s a livery called “Windows 11” that’s been installed/ Fooled me too!

I think it’s okay to mention that here, WT are not the third party and their phenomenal avionics are progressively being integrated as the default ones in the sim (starting with the G1000).

One thing I could suggest might help, if it missed you by accident - have you updated the G3000?

They published brand new SU6 compatible versions of their avionics suits at the same time when the SU6 went live - make sure you check well your G3000 version.
You can pick up additionally bug fixed G3000 v0.7.6 here —> WORKING TITLE - Garmin G3000 v0.7.6

The pauses are when the sim is decompressing the files

The download of the update and the subsequent installation went smoothly without any problems. Then I immediately made a short sightseeing flight in my area. After the Germany / Austria / Switzerland update I had complained about a few things and I wanted to see if something had improved. Yes, changes are visible. The tower at EDFH airport has been replaced by a tower that comes much closer to the tower there in terms of appearance. Then the red warning lights of the wind turbines at night, which disappeared when you got closer to the turbines. These warning lights can now still be seen, even from close range, but the position of these warning lights on the turbines is not correct. It is incomprehensible that the testers do not notice this and that it is published that way. In P3D the lights are part of the 3D model and therefore always in the right position. In MSFS it appears that the lights are not part of the turbine model and the positioning of these lights is not calculated correctly. That looks really bad. I got another visual shock when I saw cars parked near the taxiway at EDFH airport. I understand that this type of representation uses less resources, but such a representation, close to places where airplanes pass, does not work at all. The cars float in the air when viewed from certain angles. This is due to the realization of these 3D models. The wheels of the cars are hexagonal and are the thickness of a sheet of paper, which makes them invisible from certain angles. Then the shadow that the cars create on the ground can only be seen at the edges. There is no shade below the vehicles. It all adds up to the totally frustrating appearance of these vehicles. It seems that this has been done at smaller airports; In any case, more sophisticated car models are used in EDDF. There are also problems with the positioning of the cars. It is more common for cars to be so close together that they protrude into one another. I’m not sure if the car problem wasn’t there before, but I did notice it in EDFH as there were now some cars close to the taxiway.

ah so that was it LOL

You have an issue with the application path and folder junctions within Windows environment variables that require attention and the proper fixing. It is something your system is wrestling with for quite some time, from this point it’s impossible to tell how it got messed up.
I am absolutely certain it’s your issue.

can’t believe they still didnt fix the ai traffic not departing the the gate using live traffic, get the base game fixed before launching game of the year stuff,
