Incidentally, the missing rolling cache menu issue has affected many PC users as well. Reddit has a long thread on it that was started by someone using the PC version of FS 2020. Just as with the XBOX version of this issue, some users are experiencing it while others are not. And whether on PC or XBOX, the problem started with Sim Update 8.
Performance problems are one thing, and can have many causes, but I just can’t fathom how users using the same hardware (especially on XBOX, where it’s EXACTLY the same) and the same version of the software can see different menus within the sim interface itself, even after uninstalling/reinstalling and factory resetting the hardware and deleting all files on all drives.
I’ve never seen anything like this. It does act like some file has become corrupted or something, yet the problem persists for multiple users, even through compete deletion and reinstallation of all files (and from a cloud version of the software, eliminating the possibility that some users somehow have corrupted local files). I just can’t explain that.
I have the SU 9 beta but what happend now do i need to reinstall the game or just leave it so it will overwritten automatic or its just gonna bug the game i have left the devloper mode for the su 9 but it dont rollback the version or is the beta same as the release now so i dont need to do anything
It’s the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen from a piece of software, especially considering that with today’s remote hosting and electronic delivery of software we all should be receiving exactly the same files when we uninstall and reinstall, yet some basic functions like the cache menu are inexplicably different from user to user, and that difference PERSISTS through complete deletion and redownloading/reinstallation. The only possible explanation I can think of for that is that somewhere on the drives of certain users there is one or more files that are corrupted. But even that is disproven by the fact that I, and others, have factory reset our units using the option to delete all files from the SSDs, and yet the problem still remains.

I still have the cache, in order for me to rebuild it I had to actually add a value where I’ve never had to for it to have effect when clicking “apply and save”, so a little maybe unique twist on the issue.
Performance has been average so far in-sim. The menu is horrendous with lockups and the bad World Map trouble. We need our menu stability back ASAP for sure, I reckon a more simplified one which doesn’t tax the hardware so much would be a great solution going forward. For too long it’s been laggy and not so responsive for me anyway.
Hey, at this point I’ll definitely take the well wishes, and they are much appreciated. I’m about on the verge of performing some kind of voodoo ceremony over the XBOX, because this whole thing makes absolutely no sense.
It would be nice if Microsoft/Asobo at least said something…anything…about the issue. A number of both PC and XBOX users logged Zendesk tickets about it a while back when these problems appeared after Sim Update 8, but I’m not aware of anyone ever receiving a substantive response.
Opened the Store, clicked on Get updates, MSFS update ~1gb installed
Taskbar Icon was gone after this
LocalState subfolders were all empty
Opened Windows menu, typed “flight sim” and added the app back to the taskbar
Opened MSFS
Sim Update 9 was found, installation folder pointed back to the default C-drive location (in the previous SU’s and WU’s my custom location was remembered)
Changed back to D:/MSFS
Installed the update (5 seconds )
Content manager: 4 updates, including Fokker, G1000
Flight hours were still there, as was the flight training progress.
Bush trips were reset to 0%. Put the Missions folder from the backup back into the LocalState folder.
I think I’m good now.
But in the end: this process clearly needs a thorough overhaul. It’s too many things to remember and too many things that can go wrong with all these different storage locations.
Assuming same software and hardware on XBox. It has to be some sticky setting (inherited from that XBox ‘entitlement’ update after SU8) in your user profile. I’m wondering if there is a way to try a new or another XBox profile to see if this goes away.
I had a similar experience. My first flight in the FBW a320 though after the update was poor FPS, however after uninstalling and reinstalling it, I ended up having higher FPS than SU8 in the FBW.
If anyone is having FPS issues that might be something to try.
It’s as good a guess as any. The obvious question is, “What do those affected have in common?” So far, I don’t know the answer to that since it affects both PC and XBOX users, but not all of them. The only other possible commonality I can think of is some misbehaving add-on that we might all have installed, but it is unlikely that every one of those affected would have that particular add-on, and even less likely that none of the rest who are not affected would have it.
Getting a CTD when trying to resume a Bush Trip (france) I was half-way through. CTD on clicking “Ready To Fly” after loading completes, from both Continue current leg and Restart From the previous one.
Starting a new Bush Trip (Finland) seems to work ok.
