Discussion + Poll: Sim Update VIII (1.23.12.0)

PC update went without a hitch, smooth and fast. Xbox Series X is atrocious. It’s still updating via the content manager after 5 hours on the same connection than the PC version. Average download speed is 5-8mbit/s on a gigabit internet.

I’ll give credit where it’s due. This has been the fastest and smoothest update process in a long time.

Steam download took seconds, which is to be expected. In-sim main update was tearing along at up to 190 Mbits. I haven’t seen speeds like this since before SU2 in Dec 2020 which was the beginning of the degradation of speed. Prior to SU2, I was getting speeds of 300+. But this is an improvement.

Even the content manager updates all went through at up to 160 Mbits.

Temper your expectations. There won’t be a hot ix unless they find something from SU8 is terribly broken. Not having included features they said they would isn’t something they’ll hotfix over. If it wasn’t in the SU8 beta, and isn’t in SU8 release, then it won’t be done until at least SU9, if ever.

The updates consist of many files, which causes the system to re-establish a new connection for each transaction. This and the fact that each file has to be unpacked independently are the primary reasons why the download/update process takes so long.

Do you happen to have two key assignments to your camera views?

There is a bug that was reported in the SU8 beta where when the left and the right keybinding boxes have an assignment, the right hand one will act like you’re describing.

I am so confused with this update, I never got any updates in the content manager..update was very quick  I have not managed todo any test flying yet.

I would like to ask why is the “DEADSTICK TUTORIAL” being updated? I have not seen anything in the release notes that even mentions TUTORIAL yet many of these are downloading and decompressing The DEADSTICK TUTORIAL file downloads fine but won’t decompress and results in me having to re download 120gig.

This is the second in successive updates I’ve had to do a complete uninstall of the sim including deleting everything, all files. Reboot, restarting, repair all the options, no luck get it to go past The DEADSTICK TUTORIAL decompress.

Just how much stuff is in the update that is not warranted? This could explain why after every update things get broken. Just how much redundant files is being reconstructed for no reason and without knowledge by the looks of it? I think the updates need to be looked at very carefully to see if there is any redundant garbage in the actual update. I’m not impressed with this whatsoever and I would like an answer please.

Cheers

You gave them credit for good download speeds. That’s nice, but personally, I am more concerned about the quality of the sim itself.

This sounds like a nightmare. You shouldnt have to be worrying whether your game will work with every update.

Fast and smooth update process.
Less than five minutes into first flight CTD. I had not even got as far as starting the engine :■■■■:

It is common on the same day or soon thereafter as a sim update for the servers to be slammed with everyone doing downloads…and the PG data doesn’t load properly and looks terrible. I have seen that too and once the server activity returns to normal the PG city data looks good again, so maybe check again tomorrow or the next day. I have had very good PG scenery except for days when they release updates like today. I also have not seen any major performance degradation over time, and others have show similar performance with this version from earlier comments (using CapFrameEx to measure specific frametimes in a before and after scenario using same aircraft, weather, city, etc)). Maybe check again tomorrow after the network traffic returns to more normalized levels.

Very odd, I am using the Hotas one on Xbox with no issues at all from plane to plane. Do you have anything else hooked up (controller)? The switch is set correct on Hotas?

I had the same issue with 1.22.2, but after one CTD, I disabled hardware GPU scheduling and never had any more crashes. With SU8 I re-enabled HAGS and don’t have any issues, so I’m not really sure what went wrong.

Left beta program, updated from store – all good.

Launched updated sim and was greeting by some kind of licensing error (never seen before).

Community folder is empty, and Official folder is in a custom path (as well as backed up). But when I point the sim to the custom path I get an error message that reads: “You can’t select this folder. It is already part of another package installation.”

Classic

Reactivity and extremely deadzone in peripheral calibration doesn’t stay safed after restart!

Has no one tested it in beta?why is it still not working when normal sensitivity settings staying saved now?..just shows that job isn’t done carefully..sad Asobo.. really sad :expressionless_face::frowning:

Xbox Series X user here…Content Manager download speed is just embarrassingly low (additional 20 gigs to download and they give me 2 Mbits/s). And I blame Microsoft for that. Yes I have ultrafast fiber, Open NAT ports, downloads from Xbox update for other games is superfast. I blame it on Microsoft/Asobo servers. But I chill though…just feel strange to be brought back to LimeWire 2003 download speeds. Will comment more on the Sim Update tomorrow hopefully

I always do and still says 130GB. Happens nearly every update. Had this happen on 3 other updates.Just ridiculous

No issues during the install (Microsoft Store/PC), though the download speed wasn’t as great as usually for me, still decent.

Had my first flight, no issues, performance was good. I noticed overcast weather looked better (which was listed in the release notes), plenty of other good improvements too! Only issue I’ve seen was the new marketplace map being empty.

A very solid update, keep up the good work!

Nvm, fixed. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/custom-views-keys-are-broken/497712/4
Thank you @StudyLevel

It should be, will double check my cat hasn’t moved it! It should be set to PC though and the PC sees it. Have you tried switching aircraft to see if it changes axis inversion? All 3 aircraft I tried out had different throttle inversion required. OK one 3rd party. I’ll try tomorrow with all mods cleared out and with a default stick reset. There was a throttle axis issue after su7 (for some aircraft) I think so we had to toggle them to use throttle 1 instead. Now something throttle related appears to be changed again.

Tons of marketplace addons instant CTDs as expected with the new update mainly on Xbox’s
