The XBox companion app was the OLD requirement. XBox has replaced it with the XBox App for Win 10.
This occurred between MSFS updates. Underlines the importance of keeping ALL the applications on your computer up to date. I had done the update to the XBox app a week before WU6 dropped and so the process was seamless. For those that had not seen the notifications from XBox gaming about the new app there was no way for them to know that the app was required to access your XBox Games (MSFS is one) updates.
Another example of those that know assuming everyone knows. I was surprised at the confusion and anger because I was one of those that knew. I am sure that everyone at MS and Asobo also knew and just assumed that everyone with an XBox account would have already done the upgrade. Surprise!
A corporation as big as Microsoft with as many divisions as they have, should have known that cross division communication is always terrible. I am sure Asobo knew that the app was a requirement, but equally sure that they expected that the XBox division would have pushed the update to the Store as an automatic update. Right hand and left hand attached to different people.
So the XBox Services login is now handled by the new app. Companion is no longer required.
I knew about it, I just never bothered to âupgradeâ till I needed to.
The companion app tells you every time you open it, though the only time I opened it was to perform a log out/log in of the XBox network if I had an issue. That hasnât happened in some months now.
I find it mind numbing that even today (literally âtodayâ, not âin this day and ageâ, I mean Wednesday, âtodayâ) I logged into the forum, only to be greeted by ANOTHER new thread started by someone that could not find the WU6 update. We are 9 days? now since the update was released. I have lost count of the number of threads started, with various titles but, all saying, âthe update doesnât show up in the store!â, or âThe sim says I need to update and sends me to the store but it says I am good to go.â
âThere is always some poor ###### that doesnât get the word.â, has gone on long enough.
Itâs in Vienna, following the Danube North, Donaustadt Bridge just north of the A23.
Raymarched reflections is the new name for what was just reflections before. Not sure what it looks like without reflections, pretty odd probably. Youâll still have the PG mess contrasting with the water.
But that was mostly fixed and happened where the blue sky bled through at the edges of objects and around the plane. This new blue outline seems to be from the blue water bleeding through reflections and or shadows.
nah, i tried it from different airstrips. I thought the same, so I went to a different local. i have had this before. The next day and everything is fine. Even crashed in âsafe modeâ lol
Edit: So today I did the same initial flight, and no problems, completed perfectly. No rhyme or reason to these CTDs
I donât know that. I see reflections improved since WU-6, they are more solid that before. And better over water. Not sure about PG though..
Thx, checked it out.
I havenât seen bridges this bad since WU-2. Vienna is a PG mess over there anyway.. below is ultra, overview of the issues over there, it could use a remake imho.. or some nice third party addin. This could be much better.
Handcraft is aways a solution, but youâll need that on your harddisk. Too much will not be scalable, also performance would become an issue with completely handcrafted cities.
Better alignment of photography would do wonders ! In some cities, graphics levels donât seem to make any difference, PG canât really be improved. Technically:, in SDK terms: a lot of photogrammetry in MSFS in these cities seems to have wong U/V texture coordinates. Tilted windows, cut off roofs.. Also, any attempt to automatic bridges, automatic cranes and other thin structure fails. Building detail and performance are a tradeoff, but bridges.. that canât be done with PG, bridges need to be object library, or handcrafted.. You canât generate thin structures from photographs.. example, Vienna, automatic radio tower..
having it on my hard disk is a perfectly fine trade-off for a nicely hand crafted well detailed city. With the low cost of SSD drives now it would be cost effective. It doesnt have to be every city, just feature cities like they have done already. Rather than have a post apocalyptic look to these cities.
I checked again, thinking it might have to do with the weather preset. Yet it looks like it has something to do with TAA. When I move the camera toward the bridge, no outline. When I back up the camera or slowly down, the blue outline appears. Go towards the bridge again and it gets âfilledâ in.
TAA is getting its information from the previous frame but doesnât seem to handle edge cases correctly where reflections are.
I did as you suggested. I deleted the msfs from the Xbox and now Iâm in the process of reinstalling msfs . Despite it now saying the German Austrian add one arenât installed Iâm seeing the 3D photogrammetry. Go figure that. In any case Iâm waiting for 20gig of scenery and other bits and bibs to download and install.
