Discussion: World Update III: United Kingdom

Having just had a quick run around some of the more familiar geography of the country (Jurassic coast and lands end), The update is clearly improved it alot… but there’s still plenty of room for 3rd party addons to further add detail to these areas… whether it is terrain fixes for the geography, adding natural POIs and cliffs (E.G. Durdle door which is still missing!), or local landmarks (Corfe Castle etc.).

But, that being said, it’s actually a really good improvement, and the procedural churches are doing their best to get it right… sure if you’re being picky it looks nothing like the real thing, but from the few i’ve seen it’s got the brickwork colour correct, the outline and some basic features like supporting walls and even the odd tower/spire (if you’re lucky!).

Having had a quick gander around lands end airport (which i’ve flown out of a number of times over my life), it looks pretty good, the buildings are decent without being obnoxiously realistic (i feel this can detract, especially if there is other non-specialised scenery nearby!).

My only real gripe (if you can class it as that), is that with all the work that’s been put in with custom scenery and buildings (talking about EGPR Barra here as i sat and did a very in-depth mod of it prior to the UK update back in november or something), is that the 3D scenery can be a little let down by the implimentation in-game. EGPR Barra has a number of errors with runway marker placements, still somewhat inferior terrain data, a VERY ROUGH waterline for the beach which doesn’t match up with the ground detail, making it look pretty horrible on the northern end of the beach, terrain bumps from where the water has been removed (this was a massive pain for me to fix for my version of Barra too though…), and still some missing local scenery and buildings, like the wind turbine on the NW approach to the airfield.

Still, as i said, overall the update looks great, and the extra fidelity in the terrain data will make 3rd party work in the future all that much easier and finely detailed!

Clouds look amazing now! Some nice landmarks too.

That’s about all I can take away from this update. Performance has gone extremely choppy and the new Photogrammetry is so bad that I turned it off completely for the first time since launch.

Reaching out to those installing and getting the circling issue. I got it many times and still not fully installed. Tried a free VPN for 7 days and still the circling. I visited;

https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015761760-Slow-download-speed

and the speed is slower but no circling issue. Started at 1/121 as I got some earlier, it has moved to 15/121 currently and still not circling. Hope this helps someone.

EDIT: 77/121 and still no circling. Still using the 7 day VPN free trial too. ProtonVPN. Needs no credit/debit card use. Join, email number to put in, install and choose 1/3 country servers as it’s only the free version VPN. Install of MSFS update is moving pretty rapid too, considering I have a low speed Virgin account, the 50 one. I need to move back to BT

I really appreciate the fact that we have autogen churches now in the UK. Can’t wait for these to be extended through Europe, and perhaps in North America (albeit a less gothic style perhaps in USA). Nonetheless, very well done.

Only had a time for a quick tour of Edinburgh and the Forth Bridges tonight. Have to say it lookd great. Minor gripe that Murrayfield Stadium didn’t get done, but the castle, palace and parliament (even though that is a horrible building  ) look great. But the bridges are fantastic - what a great job they’ve done with those.

No issues in my quick tour. I will post a video tomorrow to show off the new scenery a bit.

Just a quick shout out to Asobo - what a great update. You guys have done a great job with it. Fantastic, and thank you.

I see the update in the microsoft store but it keeps giving me an error eveytime I try and download it. What do I do? Normally updates start automatically after the splash screen.

I thought Bristol looked amazing. What you are seeing is the edge of the photogrammetry which is a little rough to put it mildly. Hopefully it can get addressed.

And the London Eye rotates, happy days! We need more life in the scenery, where are the fluttering flags, and smoke and trains etc…

Great video. This also shows that they improved the lighting aswell.

Great video. Kudos to Asobo for a monumental achievement and to the creator of this beautiful video…

Can I say that I agree 100% with you?

The PG quality is very bad, personally I don’t like the result. It seems like an area after a nuclear bomb’s explosion. Then the colors are gone, everything seems gray and monotonic. Exactly as the real Bing maps over that area. Vivid real colors are missing!

Then FPS? For me unplayable!
CPU: 5950X OC
GPU: 3080 RTX
Resolution / Quality: 4K all ULTRA
RAM: 128GB ram
Internet: 10Gbit/sec

I get 15 - 20fps over the London area at low flight altitude.
If we get this quality for all the big cities in the future, well, very disappointed!

My word the white cliffs are amazing, you just need to wait a few seconds for them to load in and then pow!

The white cliffs at Dover only popped in to view when I was probably half a mile from them. They then remained, as a I flew away to Calais. They were still visible a long way away. Until I approached quite close they looked like yours did, but they do look a lot better than that when they are loaded.

First impressions around Liverpool & Belfast are great. Scenery looks superb. A lot more UK & Ireland flying in the coming days :+1:

Great work Asobo! Is there a list published with all the watermask locations anywhere @Jummivana?

Same. It doesn’t look great - I don’t understand why people think otherwise.
I recommend some community photogrammetry sceneries of London on flightsim.to …way better looking.

It is nice to have the detail when flying at a medium altitude however. Plus some other elements/airports which have been added look great.

I’m on a similar setup to you. I can get 30-35fps but you need to bring the sliders down to medium-high. Can keep the resolution scale at 100% still.

Tested first hand (Microsoft Store version):
Windows Insider Preview 21313 will not run the updated MSFS app.

  • manually deleted manual.ccc cache
  • repaired app
  • reset app
  • installed all Windows updates (didn’t update Nvidia drivers)
  • installed any and all Microsoft Store updates (like Game Services and Xbox app)
  • Xbox app runs, selecting MSFS through Xbox app leads to same issue
  • App hangs on blank black screen, sometimes cursor changes
  • Did get a Gamebar.exe error in Windows Event Log (don’t currently have access to event log; different OS booted)

Windows 19042 release (relatively recent installed fresh copy):

  • Updated OS with all updates (Settings->Update/Security)
  • Installed all Microsoft Store updates
  • started MSFS 1.13.16.0; successful
  • identified download/packages path clicked Update
  • finished general payload download
  • acquired UK Update
  • finished UK Update payload
  • Successful install

Amazing update. Thank you! Microsoft, Asobo, Blackshark, Bing team, Gaya, ORBX and all the other partners are doing an incredible job. God bless you :bowing_man:

Yeah incredible work they did with Liverpool. Liver building added. Anfield, goodison stadiums added…looks so wholesome. Terrific work done with EGGP airport but I’m glad they didn’t make it as good as Digital Design’s version. Just bought DD’s EGGP. But for those who don’t want a “study level” EGGP, this default handcrafted version would do absolutely fine.

Tomorrow I ain’t flying. I’m just gonna sit somewhere close to the London Eye with live weather enabled, and just sit there and watch the real world revolve around me for hours and hours

Agreed 100 percent. Now can’t wait for some aircraft as good as WT CJ4 and FBW a320. Milviz, A2A, Aerosoft CRJ come on!

Edit: Forgot to mention…all spikes are gone, at least the places I’ve been able to check so far. They are totally gone from Liverpool.

yeah a list is needed to find them quickly. But manually going about hunting for them should be fun as well :stuck_out_tongue:
