DIY Force Feedback Yoke with the MSFS!

Hello

Testings video for the MSFS.

Also, You can see that for XPlane 11, Testing videos In my youtube.

  • This video is webcam seems to have been recorded due to delay.
So, I’m going to record again today and This video is used to the XPForce Plugin for the MSFS version.
But not used to the XP Force 1.0.9728 version. It is an earlier version than XP Force 1.0.9728 version and 1.0.9731 version has been updated on the site, but it is still download file as 1.0.9728 version.
The video recorded is that does not fit the Pitch Push Pull length, but it was corrected again yesterday but has not been tested yet.

It’s call 3D printed Force Feedback Yoke.

This project was done by Jay(VR FlightSim). - https://vrflightsim.wixsite.com/mysite

Also, Please check out of his testing video with the P3D v3 + FS Force

I made of this Yoke about 2 years ago and It’s uses the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick.

This is V1, and I knows that V2 is under development, but there are no other updates yet for new.

FS Force is not yet available for MSFS, and only XP Force now supports MSFS.
XP Force has some problems when tested with 1.0.9728 version and the previous version too.
I told to there by yesterday What I found of the Issues with this, but I haven’t received any news yet.

I complete this Yoke, breaking down several MS Sidewinder Force Feedback2 joysticks.
Because, I’ve been through a lot of trials and errors, and I don’t know perfectly now, but it works satisfactorily.

I’m not sure, but I think it cost almost $1,000 to complete it.
However, it would cost very much less(Please check out to FFB Yoke v1 Instructions) if anyone wanted to make it. The reason is, as I said, I broke several MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joysticks.

Important - Anyone, if want to make this, Please buy to the Two of the SBPFT205-16 Pressed Steel 3 Bolt Triangle Flange Housing with 1 inch insert (SBPFT205-16.TRI) In the Simply Bearings Ltd - Ball Bearings, Oil Seals, O-rings, V-Belts, SKF Instead of the SBPFT205 or SLFT25 25MM Triangle Pressed Steel 3 Bolt Bearing & Housing [Qty - 2].
The reason is that I bought the item on item list but it was not mounted on a 25MM OD X 21MM ID (2MM WALL) 316 SEAMLESS STAINLESS STEEL TUBE [400mm]
I ordered SBPFT205 from ebay and Simply Bearings(I ordered to both, SBPFT205-16.TRI and SBPFT205 In there shop)before, but SBPFT205 is didn’t fit with 25mm Steel Tube.

The problems I found in XP Force for the MSFS version, are as follows.

  1. If when I click to Rescan, the plug-in becomes Stuck randomly. It is the biggest problem of the present.
I ran MSFS, XP Force, all under administrator accounts, but I couldn’t see the difference.
  2. Stick Shaker has a selected box, but it doesn’t work at all.
  3. When I use Gear Bumpiness, every time I uses the Rudder on takeoff, the yoke moves left and right.
  4. Gear Down or Up vibrations do not work.(I tested with Version 1.0.9728 but not worked).
  5. Roll exaggeration is not worked.
  6. The value of Pitch(Feedback’s Pitch Slide) In XP Force differs slightly(Not matched with MSFS’s trim values) to elevator trim from that for MSFS Cessna 172 Skyhawk or Cessna 152 and I don’t have tested to other types.
  7. Some slides not actived(the Stick Frition and Autopilot Spring) of the Main Controls when I started of XP Force.
but If when I saved to the profile or load of profile then It’s actived again as normal, So That is also a bug.
  8. There are added In 29th, June 2018 to ‘Add effect of gravity on elevator when at very low speed.’
I found it in yesterday, there are In XP Force plugins update history.
I am not sure but It’s Perhaps it works only on Cessna 172 Skyhawk of MSFS, It didn’t work in Cessna 152. - I don’t have reported to this Issue yet. Because I’m not sure if this function is right.
    .

Thanks

Really cool FF yoke. Honestly, one of the better iterations of a DIY FF yoke that I have seen as of late. $1k worth of Sidewinders is quite the price to pay though

Hello Angernerve

Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually, I think it cost less than $1000. The reason is that I have no electronic knowledge. Therefore, during the experiment, it had to destroy several MS Sidewinder Force Feedback2 joysticks to this complete.

I am not sure, but maybe you can make it within $300 for this.

I can give advice on what I know if anyone tries to make it.

Thanks again!

It would be interesting for me to take the mechanical part of Sidewinder FF joystick and make the electronics and software myself. The mechanics is always the hardest part for me.

Hello MikeSierra2030

The best way for software is to support the Force feedback function in MSFS.

I bought a vibration flight joystick and testing of it but it didn’t work. I was very disappointed before. It would have been very nice if they had explained that at least some products had vibration functions with the MSFS.

It only supports XBOX Controller for Vibrations in MSFS? Right?

I tested the BFF Bass Shaker Driver V1 on MSFS and the vibration worked beautifully. The testing videos on my youtube, and I will post an introduction to it today.

Thanks

Actually “the best” way for me is to take some simulations variables from SimConnect and create all required effects in my DIY controller.

Hello

Today, I tested of it more and uploaded of testing video.

It’s Includes to Take off and Trims and on the Auto Pilot.

I did settings up to better for the XP Force.

So, Take off is seem to better before.

Thanks

Great! It seems to be working very well. I wonder how to implement tiny yoke movement while in a flight. In a real plane the yoke is gently moving (in turbulent air not so gently), but it’s not a case in MSFS. I cannot even find any sim variables holding this information.

Hello

Thanks!

But Very strangely, if I’m stopped of the Aircraft, Yoke is just stops halfway, so the my first testing video’s for the MSFS, maybe something like gravitational elevator weights disappeared. I don’t know why it doesn’t work again. It would be nice if XP Force could add options that can to be set for the Elevator Weights in XP Force. the FS Force has this function.
Already, I sent this request to XP Force with the problems.

Younghoon

Sorry, It’s gravitational elevator weight of something effect is working again.

I did setting up to the Pitch Strength is more slide to the right In XP Force option.

Younghoon

Thanks, could you share your settings?

What is your progress on FFB V2 ?

I’m building the v1 as I already have a MSFF2 joystick. There are better instructions and info out there and I’d rather avoid headaches if I can.

There are some modifications to the original v1 design I’ve made like using a 1" flange instead of the 25mm to allow for variance with the 25mm tube, otherwise it will likely bind. Also depending on the timing belt, you’ll probably need to sand down the back of it a bit so it’s less rigid, allowing it to properly fit around the smaller gears.

Right now, I’m waiting on the last of the parts. I’ve printed the gears in PETG as its quite rigid and pretty easy to print with. I am also planning on including the resistor mod for a more powerful FFB

Also, just to clarify, this project should cost no more than $300USD. It’s unfortunate the poster required several joysticks but ideally, it should only take one. It will help if you have previous electrical experience. Hobby level, nothing crazy.

we need force feedback support for msfs2020

Hello

Sorry for the late reply.

I don’t use this anymore. But starting for making to the BFF’s DIY OpenBeam FFB Flight Yoke today.

This is Cessna 152 Yoke style and I will post a new post today.

By the way, Did you finish it V1?
