That might make me consider moving to 2024 from 2020. Any improvements to performance and/or graphics are my main drivers for moving. This would potentially push me over to 2024…. or 2028 maybe 
The really fun part is that AI is helping China develop products that are going to compete with Nvidia – Imagine what that Before/After picture will look like

Seeing that MSFS ia already using a lot of AI, this wont be a suprise that at some point we will get dlss5 support. This will be a generational leap in visuals. Have you guys seen this video ? Its not just faces but it literally transforms the entire scene making it photorealistic.

DLSS 4.5 isn’t mandatory. In fact, I’m pretty sure I could run DLSS 3 if I wanted to.
Is DLSS 5 somehow different? Will it be ‘baked in’ to the game titles, thus mandatory?
Probably not in the short run, or even in the current titles. A tool for developers to consider for future titles, most likely?
From what’s known so far, it won’t be mandatory - just like DLSS 4.5 isn’t. I can’t imagine worse visual quality ever being something forced on players. If someone enjoys that more “sweetened” look, sure, DLSS 5 will be there for them and that’s totally fine. But personally, I prefer games to look exactly the way the developers intended them to - so DLSS 5 won’t be for me.
but how do you even know what Asobo developers intend ? the reason for a simulator is to simulate . the msfs simulate the world for us , and the more realistic the more correct . lol. i think will be a huge step .
All the showcase videos and screen shots were made using 2 5090 cards at once (which today could run you up to $10,000) and they are telling us that eventually all of this tech will be on a single card. Most of us can’t afford a 5090 or the processor to handle it right now. Imagine what the cost of this new super duper mixed AI/graphics card will cost. And, the AI data that spare 5090 is working off that knows everything about the real world is coming from a data center not stored on your local machine because, well you’d never be able to afford the RAM to hold it all so any tech like this has to involve a considerable amount of data streaming. For people that think they will be happy with that outcome, I have a bridge to sell them.
OTOH they demoed an early prototype of their technology, so it’s far from what will spec’ed for end users. Advances in ML based game graphics software must take into consideration the GPUs that folks both have now and can afford to buy in the future, where we all compete with AI for prices. They surely know this and the end products will be appropriately spec’ed for our PCs and consoles in order for the new solution to be viable in the marketplace, both for developers and players, right?

I hope they’re not following the exact model airlines tried (and failed miserably at): chase a few ultra premium clients, probably the wealthiest states and corporations, with ultra expensive products. Can’t afford it? Too bad, they’re supposed to be for a “distinguished clientele”. More margin, less operating cost.
I don’t think for a second that the trust fund kids that control the big tech firms are concerned with people being left behind by AI.
Not even the ~200 relatively rich guys who buy expensive rigs for flight simulation.
Interesting take on the situation. I tend to think that NVIDIA knows that gamers and game developers cannot continue or win in the hardware marketplace, with ever more powerful chips going into AI data centers at premium prices; and that one possible solution path for this for gaming is to find ways that ML software can increase the utility of the CPUs/GPUs we both have now and can afford to own in the future for gaming. This could be a win-win strategy for gaming, where the trickle down ML tech makes state of the art chips unnecessary for gaming to continue to progress.
I’m going to share some slightly personal info here.
You don’t have to be anywhere near “rich” to have a nice flight sim setup, VR or otherwise.
I built my PC 2 years ago. 14700k, 48gb DDR5 6800, 4TB gen 4 nvme game drive (high quality), 1 TB gen 4 nvme OS drive (high quality), a nice Asus gaming mobo, 850 quality psu (upgraded to 1200), Corsair case, nice NZXT 240 elite aio cpu cooler, and a used 3080ti. Total cost was around 2200k. I put it on an 12 month interest free CC and paid it off over the year.
Next was my Pimax Crystal Light around 12 months ago. 700.00. Pimax had interest free financing over 2 years for 200.00 of the 700.00. So 500 on a 12 month interest free CC and 11.99 a month for 24 months on a CC that I pay off monthly. I paid the 500.00 off over the year. Maybe paid it off a bit early.
Currently the only thing left that I owe out of all that is around 120.00 to Pimax, and that is only because I am too lazy to go in and pay it off, and there is no interest or additional fees.
Now my 5080. Towards the end of 2025 I was well aware prices were going to start going crazy, and I wanted a good GPU for the PCL. My original plan was to hold off for a 5080 Super with more Vram, but that kept getting less and less likely. Best Buy had a sale and I was able to buy an MSI 5080 Gaming Trio on sale for 1200.00 (original price 1400.00) + tax = approx 1300.00. This was a 24 month interest free Best Buy CC. I bought this the beginning of December 2025 knowing (I have been in hardware/software IT my entire adult life) the 5080 Super was almost for certain not going to happen, and that after the New Year prices on GPU’s were going to start going up. It was now or never. I currently owe 400.00 with around 21 months still of 0% interest to pay it off. I will probably pay it off in April or May. That will leave me with only owing 100.00 to Pimax and I will have paid 0 interest on anything.
I understand prices are crazy right now, but prior to the recent spike, high end gear was very attainable by un-rich people. Even the 5090 was able to be had when I bought my 5080 for 2500 with 24 months interest free financing.
Perhaps I’m just a pauper but I would consider 2500 for any gfx card to be very very expensive. Not in the least affordable for me. That is not to say I don’t want to see where this new tech leads. The free financing is going to be very location dependant. Unlikely to get that in the UK for example. Maybe 6 months
I doubt anybody actually thinks that this is going to be forced on users. Like you said, all DLSS options are, well, optional.
I think the bigger concern is that when DLSS 5 releases, this means that resources are no longer being spent on DLSS 4.5, or another version of DLSS that isn’t AI-filter-centric. The very real concern with DLSS 5 releasing is that when it does, the ship will have sailed on true supersampling technology (for Nvidia at least).
