Another example TAA vs DLSS 4 (valued with 0.99, so output render is 99% same, also fps is same): https://youtu.be/vVVwSVi1JGk?si=9vaZxUO6edEsoGr6
Yeah I’m not buying the DLSS thing. TAA still looks better to me.
I think that both sides of this debate are firmly entrenched in their views by now.
There is not going to be much movement of people either way on this. So this is what choice is about.
Do you think time has come for both sides to let it be.
Taa def looks better but the gap is closing with dlss4.
AFAIK the DLSS DLL file versions have never been in sync with the “DLSS number”, which is basically just a marketing term.
I dunno, I’ve definitely seen some people jump ship from. TAA to DLSS4!
I think the split often runs along the “GA/Bush” vs Tubeliners crowd, as even DLSS4 still seems to have an issue with blurry numbers on digital displays.
The advantages for scenery and performance are undeniable though IMO, especially as a remedy to shimmering.
I agree mate. With msfs 2020 and dlss/balanced, dx12, with 1.3x SS applied beforehand, dlss4/rtx4090 looks fantastic and is unbelievably shimmer-free!
Once msfs 2024 is finetuned a lot more, I look forward to reinstalling it and giving it a go again. We’ll probably be on dlss5 by then, lol!
why not just use DLAA?
I can easily see that being the case. Actually, as a “tubeliner” myself, I think DLSS4 is superior to TAA in every regard except for the glass cockpit, which is pretty critical for airliners. It’s still too blurry in 1440 for me (4K users might be seeing better results).
I wish there was a keybinding to switch from TAA to DLSS in the game, as it might be nice to just use TAA for TO and final approach and use DLSS for the rest of a flight!
@GarrisIiari Well you can allways pop up your glass cockpit screen in landing. Right alt + mouse click to pdf screen and resize & move it front of real pdf screen.
Not if you use glass cockpits it’s not. DLSS 4 is still a mess with any sort of glass screens, FMC etc.
VR only user, here. And a TAA fanboi for so long I can’t remember. I even have a #TAA4Lyfe tattoo on my right arm… I mean I have resisted DLSS forever.
Until last week. When I went through the process of figuring out how to use DLSS swapper, nvidia profile inspector and reciting the proper chants and prayers that got DLSS 4 up and running.
And what a game changer. I use a mix of GA and airliners (mostly Fenix and PMDG). Are the fast moving numbers blurry? Yep. The ones and tens place on the speed tape are blurrier than my vision after drinking half a bottle of scotch. Does it make any difference in the way I fly those aircraft? Not a bit. The visual clarity and, for some reason, smoother performance in VR is just too good with DLSS Quality to go back to TAA. I have an appointment with my tattoo artist to have the TAA4Lyfe changed to #DLSS4Lyfe. I’m a convert.
Just one user’s perspective. Obviously, it’s great that we have all these options. If you like TAA - go for it! It’s a great option. And, hopefully, one day we will see an implementation of DLSS in MSFS that masks out the displays from DLSS so we get the best of both worlds. Cheers!
We should ask someone to make vr window addon, that is showing PDF screen as the pop up method in flat screen. And we would able to attach it to front of PDF screen.
I did video about ghosting diffrences between TAA, DLSS 0.80, DLSS 0.99+FG and with pop upped PDF screen.
So then, why are not the glass displays coded in other better format for DLSS?
I found this:
This, fellow flight sim enthusiast, is the million dollar question!
Once answered and resolved, we shall have our DLSS nirvana!!
Ok, I have been pretty happy after going down the rabbit hole of DLSSSwapping in 310.2.1.0 and using preset K with DLSS Quality. I mean, really happy with it. But… in the spirit of continuous improvement, I have now stumbled upon DLSS Tweaks. Which I see can give you an Ultra Quality option. Question is this - 1. is this still needed even after the 310.2.1.0 swap / preset K and 2. Does the ultra quality get rid of even more of the ghosting with fast-moving glass displays?
Yes, I know I can try it out, but since it involves moving even more files around, I’d like to get some thoughts on the ghosting first and whether or not the Ultra Quality preset helps there .
Cheers!
Edit - sorry should have put system specs - i9-14900k / 4090 / 64 GB Ram / Quest 2 full resolution
Don’t stumble too far with this, it’s not necessary imho. If you really want to change the current, latest preset K to J you can do this with the nvidia app dlss override - model preset. I don’t see any significant difference between these so I have left it as Latest = K.
Likewise, you don’t even need to use the Swapper app anymore. Still going to be Youtuber’s out there saying that both of these are game changing must have mods, lol!
However, please feel free to stumble and mod away to your heart’s content.
Or the DLSS better done for those formats, whatever.
Ok, I’ll probably skip the DLSS Tweaks, then. I don’t use that nvidia app, so I’ll stick with that swapper for now. I can change the J / K presets using that inspector app… I didn’t notice any difference between J and K to be honest.
Was just wondering if that Ultra Quality setting gave any less ghosting… if not it’s all good. I can live with a few ghosts to get the clarity and smoothness DLSS is delivering
Thanks again!!
right now im using dlaa and its the best for me with clarity and fps gen
