Due to technical issues I only have a 5 to 10 mbps internet connection here.
But at the same time I am tempted to do the upgrade now from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024.
I searched the internet for an hour already about what a 10 mbps connection means. And I know of the minimal 10 mbps requirement, but I get no good picture if MSFS 2024 will be flyable even for me with 10 mbps, of that 10 mbps is usually ok, only longer startup loading etc.
Does anyone know how MSFS 2024 is with a 10 mbps connection? Does somebody have first hand experience on what happens on that speed? Is it doable, or highly unrealistic because everything loads to slow?
Please share your insights, because I want to buy MSFS 2024 now, but I do not want to waste money also, if a connection of around 10 mbps is not realistic and immersive flying. Also I do not mind waiting a bit longer for loading, but if I fly, and I see constant texture loading everything, that is also not so immersive, so then perhaps I should stay with MSFS 2020 untill I get a better internet connection.
If anyone has good information for me, please let me know.
I have a 20Mbs DSL connection. The 11GB install took 2 hours. Then the first start of the software took about half an hour more (downloading various additional data I believe)
During later starts, it takes about 3 mins to get menu.
A free flight typically takes another 2 mins to launch. Then, if data are not cached, textures (cockpit, external view) take about 1 min to get fully sharp. Though far from optimal, I would say I can leave with it.
Thanks for your helpful comments. Also the link of TheFalconOne was useful.
I was thinking about doing it.
But then I saw also, that MSFS 2024 does not yet have support for FSLTL. I also have to wait for my PMDG 737. So perhaps I better wait until these features also come.
Perhaps I can get faster internet in the meantime then.
Just be a bit careful when you consider Starlink. I have been assisting some friends here who use that, and it seems MSFS2024 does not really like that. Could be the ‘burst’ way of networking it uses. If you can use 4G or 5G all works great.
i’m forced to use wifi because of where the computer is, so the 200mbps fiber gets cut down to around 60-100 with the wifi going trough walls and such
i can tell you that’s about the absolute minimum you can get away with if you want to play seamlessly
less than that and you will start to feel the pain
somedays the wifi is “sad” and only does around 40mbs, that definitely stands out in the game, i can tell right away that something’s up
I am thinking that I am going to buy Beyond ATC, and use that for AI, instead of FSLTL, then I only have to wait for my PMDG 737 to come to MSFS 2024.
I am still doubting if I should try MSFS 2024 yes or no. Because with this internet connection I also have to wait longer sometime for things to load MSFS 2020. I looked at NYC today in MSFS 2020, and I had to wait also a couple of minutes for Manhattan to load.
Is there any information on the data usage of MSFS 2020 versus 2024? Because if its also have these 50 mbps spikes, perhaps there is not much difference in my experience between 2020 and 2024 regarding loading time. So perhaps I better upgrade to 2024 then if there is also load time in MSFS 2020?
Is anybody aware of info regarding data usage during a similar flight in MSFS 2020 versus 2024? That would help making a decision.
For me i dont see a big spike in my data usage before and after MSFS 24 release
Also, a good thing is use a biggest Roling Cache, because the Core Sim is installed on your PC, but Aircraft and Screnery is streaming/download in demand, if you have a big rolling cache (100-200GB) can help you alot
Also in a next update, you have get possibility download some part of sim localy
I found 2 informative clips that show the data usage of MSFS 2024:
and
What you see it the spikes of bandwidth, but after that it is often lower then 10 mbps.
Also I just tested MSFS 2020 with my connection and it kind of works, but I also have long loading times, perhaps 10 minutes to get to the menu, and another 5 minutes to load the airplane, of even long sometimes. And also the data consumption is a lot of the times around the 10 mbps, so my connection is also working there a lot.
So I would like to know how the data usage of MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 compare. But I did not found such information, that compares these 2 programs.
So if anyone has some more information on this, that would be helpful.
