Well your actual rendering resolution was 1728x972, so not quite 1080p.
The biggest problem is that I have 45fps and when I move camera few times suddenly I have 30fps for few seconds, and again its 45fps for example EGLL.
No, it wasn’t . It’s 1080p. Where are you getting that from?
OMG realy A380? I use FBW A320 and it huge diffrence in performance. I checked I have 60fps over Manhattan outside FHD view & Ultra.
But the problem is not with low fps, but with suddenly drops at MS airports. For example from 45 to 30fps at two similar outside views.
Outside view sukcks! It’s not GTA! And 1080p is blurry and low quality, I use render scale 130.
In the middle of the desert with external camera even a 970GTX can have these results.
Benchmark it from Newark Liberty International Airport to LaGuardia passing at 2000ft over Manhattam with the cockpit camera. You are in for a rude awakening.
Scroll up. Already posted one in New York with great results. I never mentioned I get better results inside cockpit.
Maybe don’t buy a 3090 if its only intended use is FS2020, but I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to find one anytime soon anyway. RTX 3070 is more than enough for any [non-competitive] game on the market today - including FS2020. Unless you’re running an old GTX or AMD equivalent, your GPU isn’t going to be the bottleneck. Due to the single-thread nature of FS2020, the bottleneck will almost always be CPU until the sim is better optimized. I’ve got an i9-9900K @ 5GHz & an MSI RTX 3070…the only thing negatively impacting sim performance for me is CPU Mainthread. The 3070 never sees more than 50% utilization, even on Ultra. Once they figure out how to better delegate threads, this issue will likely go away.
People seriously need to learn how to use the FPS counter.
If it says “Limited by MainThread” most of the time then no, buying a shiny new GPU isn’t going to do anything for your performance. Buy a new CPU instead.
And if it says “limited by GPU” then go ahead and get a new GPU and enjoy the uplift.
If it flickers between the two then you need to upgrade both to see any notable uplift. Otherwise you will just shift the limitation from both to one specifically.
Finally if it says “limited by MainThread” check the processing time of the GPU. If you are main thread limited and getting 20 FPS, and the gpu processing time is say, 16ms, that means your gpu is capable of pushing 60fps but is sat waiting for the cpu. And the inverse is true too of course.
TLDR use the FPS counter to determine which component upgrades can improve performance and potentially by how much.
Limited by MainThread also appears when you intentionally limit FPS in the Nvidia or FS option settings.
Using glass cockpits? What is your experience with steam gauge cockpits?
Agreed with 1st post
Don’t spend monies upgrading PC just for MSFS2020
Fps performance is a software problem not hardware
My 3080 runs everything flat out with about 30 to 40% headroom , not msfs2020
My 3070 couldn’t run P3Dv5 due to insufficient VRAM-no such issues after upgrading to the 3090.
May be useful to consider if you fly P3Dv5
Talking about the 3090 I am trying to get one right now just for the vram and I am willing to get one for a minimum of 2000usd! not the 3000 scalper prices.I would love to replace my 2060super asap as it performs so poorly on 3440x1440 even in rural area I can’t even reach 50fps.Performs very well @1080p but certainly not going back to that ancient resolution.
The sim runs very smooth atm but the fps is laughably low at big airports.40% CPU 80-85% GPU.
Not a problem. Couldn’t buy one even if we wanted to ha
Before you step up to a 3090 check if you are limited by MainThread. It will not make much of a different if your CPU/MEM etc. are limiting the framerates. It’s not about CPU % usage, more about raw speed on a couple of cores. 3090 is great for VR and 4K+ resolutions, but running it at 1440p not so much.
It’s a huge indicator that your GPU is not 100% utilized. Try to be 100% GPU-limited first, then it could be worth looking to upgrade your graphic card.
I have had one since December, paired with a 10900K. No regrets. The sim runs great on Ultra @ 5120x1440. Even in the most demanding scenarios, don’t drop below 30fps. Average 45-50.
I fly GA steam gauge so I can’t speak to performance with the heavies.
The 2060super is often 100% utilized and it often tells me limited by GPU with fps maxing out @45-50 Its just not fully utilized with the tubeliners and 3440x1440 is a hefty resolution to run its 1440p yes but its more demanding than 2560x1440.What I would if I get my hands on a 3090 is crank up the rendering scale otherwise I am not taking anything else less powerful with less vram and I am not putting AMD products in my rig.
2060super was never designed for 1440p ultrawide.Just wasn’t my intention but oh well stuck with the card.
