there goes my flying time for tonight. MSFS2020 needs to fix these updates times going forward, or roll it out gradually like Oculus does with its firmware updates to control traffic. ■■■■ poor
I cancelled my update as well. Will try again tomorrow.
I have a permanent 900DL/900ul bandwidthand I9900k, NV2 sdd, so we can eliminate this problem, hence my search for the secret
Yep it’s painfully slow. After 20 gigs or something FS2020 suddenly completely shut down by itself. It did resume the download when I restarted it (thankfully it continued from where it aborted) but fingers crossed this didn’t corrupt the download :-/
10 gb more to go…
getting 0.2mbps download on a 200mbps line…with cloud technology - scalable for demand, its crazy - microsoft run one of the largest cloud providers on the planet apart from AWS, and they can’t increase server capacity when they know the xbox/pc update date well in advanced???
Although I share your emotion, this also has it’s limits. I guess they had scaled it up to the max. They knew what and who was coming don’t you think?
thats what I was afraid of, the download cutting off, I downloaded 10mb and noticed it was painfully slow so I canceled it before it got any further.
Download speeds are diabolical - another MS triumph…
why msfs2020 launch console user on the same day to cause even more server load is beyond me
you say that…but they probably dont want the additional cost on scaling for the day…
I think they would though. They want to make this a success at least as much as we do.
Absolutely unrelated, but this is exactly what my company does on release day (once a month). Buy extra cloud capacity for upgrade and conversion.
do they know downloading a big file and decompressing after is faster than this waiting ■■■■? its been like this since 2 years lol
I’m curious…Are you running an EVGA 3090? I have Asus and didn’t notice this behavior. My temp never goes above 65c and my GPU is heavily overclocked.
agreed, I don’t believe msfs2020 is outpacing azure cloud capacity, more like they choose not to scale up to demand because they dont have to/cost of it. What annoys me the most is I would prefer to wait a week to update to avoid the massive traffic spike, but you are forced to update, so you have to go with this mess or not use their product you have paid for whilst things die down…your company has the correct ethos!
We have to, our software is no game and downtime is not acceptable .
My DL speed (started 15 mins past launch) has dropped from 50-100mbits to THIS now… unbelievable:
This is gonna take all night, won’t be able to try till tomorrow. This is a new dimension of server load.
Mine is at 0.12mbits, can you beat that?
Must be nice… 0.12Mbit here
Ah yes, the Pedro Cerrano treatment.
Didn’t the developers expect this to happen?
Did anyone perform capacity management to see if the servers and backbone would cope?
Surly a bad idea to do both at once especially as they decided to do a single 40GIG update.
Effective project management is required for these releases.
