At that speed I’d restart throw the dice again… I’ve 5Mbit now, since I started an hour ago… 5% so I expect to be able to fly again… tomorrow ca 18:00. When I first downloaded MSFS in 2020 is was 18 hours, the UK update went 40Mbps, I got 27GB in 2 hours or so. It’s a bit like a casino it seems…
Anyway checkout below zendesk page if you experience download loops (over and over again)
LOL, I closed the update window without wanting to…
I restarted, there is good, the update resumed where it was and I increased my DL X from 7 to 10 times, I am now at 70Mb/sec
Better put your NVidia frame cap (vsync) at 30FpS… you’ll cook it all night… and it’s not a PC user interface, this thing runs an XBox style UI in 3d graphics, with fancy button shading and animated backgrounds. Also ingame and apparently during downloads. Your result is logical. If you don’t cap your vsync, you get all you have (70FpS… and 90% load !)
no, it’ll be over soon, and my GPU is only 56°C, so don’t worry, but yes, that’s the problem I hate about this game, it’s a 99% xbox game, but well, you have to deal with it.
Question - Looks like I need to head out of town for a few hours while this thing is still installing. With reports of high temperatures in computers, not sure I want to leave it running. If I pause the installer, exit, and shut computer off, what will happen on my return and re-launch? Will it begin from where I left off? will it start again from scratch? Never had to leave during an install of any msfs update before, so this is new to me!
Yes, as in my post above, I turned off the game unintentionally and restarted it, it resumed downloading where I turned it off, so it should be the same for you, at least I hope so.
Don’t worry. See above… minimize it, or put your vsync on 30 frames per second, and your PC will be fine, cool off… there’s some CPU loads, because the archives must be decompressed… but that won’t get hot.
If you leave your download, make sure you put your Energy Savings correct… PC must not go asleep during these downloads !
Download can be stopped and restarted any time. Leave the game, restart the game… Update will appear and proceed. No issue. I’ve used it during the Japan update, to put the above trick from Zendesk. I restarted MSFS, the update stepped in at the point where I was.
Ok - I have everything downloaded and installed - I select an ASOBO airplane and a default location for free flight - it begins to load and the loading bar takes awhile but eventually it is filled - yet nothing. It just stops. Music is playing - task manager says it’s running but I’m stuck with a pretty landscape and a full loading bar.
It just never switches over to the flight.
Downloaded the ms store update in about a minute. Then it took me 3.5hrs to download the update with 3 CTD’s. Luckily it started back downloading where the error occured (hope i won’t see it back in the game though). Now downloading the content manager updates, also a whopping 23GB. But it s going way faster then the other update.
My gaming laptop doesnt like those high temps though…every time the same, update fry it more then the game itself
I have a gig net connection, I’m only a few hours drive from Microsoft headquarters and the download speeds are ok. But I crashed to desktop like 5 times while updating before I ever got to the main screen. Each time it’d download a bit more, then crash.
Now I’m in the Content Manager downloading the updates to the World Updates and Deluxe/Premium pack and yeah, my PC is doing it’s best impression of a space heater and my GPU temps are at 82C/180F for no good reason what so ever!!! NOTHING is moving on this screen beyond the white download status bar. There’s no good reason the GPU need to be above idle power/temps!
There are server issues at the moment (because of load ? people get 0.16Mbit…) , this issue with long (first?) loading ingame at 100% has been reported for PC and XBox today. It takes forever (15 min or so)
@diverskii thanks ! I’ll put a link… maybe it would help for people really crawling atm… connect another server…
I take that back, there’s a tiny, ever so slight drift to the out of focus hanger background behind the interface, but it may as well be a frozen image and it SURE doesn’t need to be refreshed at 80fps and pull 500watts.
Spot on. I’m sure they have thought about every senario and came to this conclusion, it can’t be easy to get every person worldwide to get instant updates just like that and not have zero problems, I think they have done pretty good considering how other game/software developers have coped on a day like this! kudos to the Microsoft team for pulling off a incredible feat!
Impossible to load, first I got almost endless “please wait…” after every file and now it keeps resetting the files back Still have 21 GB to go with 100mbps Internet after like 5 hours.
You happen to run a i5 CPU ? the please wait is decompression stage of a chunk. The bigger the chunk was, the longer it takes. They made that about 40% slower, recently… to reduce the download sizes, they have improved the compression… at the cost of wait time ! A low end CPU you can get into trouble… And I think this decompression time also counts in for the download speed. How much do you get now ?
