This was the High Performance area I wrote about. It’s in Windows 10 Settings, Gaming, Game Bar, then “Graphic Settings” (a text link upper right of that screen)
Thanks for that - I have pretty good FPS and general graphics quality but its always worth optimising any settings possible. I have just done this. I see that it looks like Win 10 is set up for laptops - mention of power savings - battery life vs performance.
Hester - Yep, had that set.
You can download this guide for free. It seemed to help with some stuff.
Still very unacceptable performance after the last patch.
well, I have a much better performance after the update, but hey, it must be the “Asobo” effect…
I think the new word is born. Plasobo.
I’ve a ryzen with 8 cores and 12 threads and In FS I am already limited main thread. why ???
Ryzen single core performance isn’t ‘amazing’. MSFS utilizes first core the most and if your core is slow, it’s going to be limited my mainthread. Try going to task manager -> details ->msfs.exe -> Priority -> Set to low.
Not sure if this helps, but some users have reported less stuttering. I noticed that it reduces Core 1 usage by 20% or so, not sure if it helps my performance as GPU is my bottleneck anyways.
E: Do you mean 6 cores and 12 threads?
Thank you very much for your answer. I have indeed set the priority to high because in all the tutorials they say to do it. so i will try what you tell me and i will tell you if it is better. but I think the small latencies of the card come from the CPU. I have a ryzen 5 2600. Microsoft advises a ryzen 5 1500 that’s curious.
Ryzen 5 1500 is for minimum settings. 2600 should run on a combination of medium/high. What settings/resolution are you trying to run at?
Also, it’s not just about core count and clockspeed. The new Ryzen 5600X is GREAT for this sim, because of both the higher clock speeds, and an amazing IPC (instructions per clock) increase. It’s still a 6 core / 12 thread CPU like the one you currently have.
Anyways, in short, you’ll have to adjust your settings to your current system. If you’re getting a stuttering experience or low FPS, it’s time to dial down your details settings.
I have already adjusted my settings. I turned off a lot of details like shadows, occlusion or bloom. in flight i have a very good fps but it is in the cockpit on the ground that it drops.
shadows/occlusion and bloom are settings that will mostly impact your GPU, not the CPU.
For CPU looks at things like the terrain render and objects render sliders. There are some other settings that have more effect on CPU than on GPU.
Biggest one in the cockpit is the ‘glass panel refresh rate’, maybe try setting that to low.
edit: something else to check; look at your RAM settings in the BIOS. Make sure the correct XMP profile is enabled. Ryzen is pretty dependant on fast/correct RAM speeds and timings.
I have a gigabytes motherboard I have to look on the internet how to check the profile in the bios. I have 16gb 3200mhz corsair. otherwise in my cursor are 100 TAA
yep, check in the BIOS if it’s actually running on 3200.
But also; really check that ‘glass panels refresh rate’ setting in the sim. It’s most likely the thing that’s causing low framerates/stutters from the cockpit for you. Set it to low if it isn’t already.
I followed a tutorial to activate the XMP profile but the frequency of my RAM does not become 3200 yet I have 2x8gb DDR4 3200mhz corsair vengance.
Do you not have the XMP profile available? It should be there in the BIOS if the RAM is compatible with your motherboard.
You can check the QVL (qualified vendor list) on gigabytes site to make sure.
edit: be sure you use ‘save and restart’ after changing settings in the BIOS, otherwise it will just ignore the changes you made.
Yes. I found the setting in BIOS and put profile1 and saved and reboot but the frequency is still at 2333
Well, if it runs on 2333 that might be an explanation for your problems. It should run on 3200 though.
Which exact Motherboard do you have (gigabyte has dozens of different ones)?
I just checked and my RAM is XMP compatible. I may have them plugged into the wrong slot on the card. my card is there: Gigabyte GA-B450M-DS3H
I think this is the QVL list:

But yeh, make sure they’re inserted into the same coloured slots (normally slot 2 and 4, in your case the 2 grey ones).
