Many thanks for your replies. Much appreciated. Can you recommend a PC in the £300-£500 range that would do the job without any problems.? Thanks
I fear it’s not possible for a new pc in this price-range ( it depends of course also at your country ). You can check possible the second hand market.
But we come out of topic. About that you can check the #self-service category or ask for hints in it.
Have you tried to lower the in-game settings ? e.g. mentioned render-resolution ? Does it works ?
Thanks again Micha. Sorry to be stupid but how do I do what you suggest with the render resolutions.?
you have to
- open the in-game “Options” menu,
- then choose “General”,
- then choose “Graphics”
within you should:
- select the “Low” Profile ( is below the HDR10 setting )
- move the Render-scaling slider to 50 ( is below the FPS setting )
Save Settings and try.
If it works you can step by step increase the values. You should then at first stay at the low-profile and increase slowly the render scaling.
anyone noticed since UK update that game now even lags in world map view sometimes? It’s even worst now in flight when approaching cities too. Still not as smooth as it was back in September.
my specs
AMD Ryzen 5600x
RTX 2080ti
32GB RAM
Win 10 Home
1TB NVME
1920x1080
That’s strange… For me after the last update MSFS runs quite a bit better.
Locking the FPS to 30 does what it is supposed to do, LOCK THE FPS, and gives a more fluid flight
than before. It seems that Asobo is hearing our comments!
Still FAR AWAY from what it should be, but at least playable now, even with some settings in ultra, that is If you don’t use the 747 or the 787…

yeah FPS lock is more for the GPU, in any case it does not help me. my GPU is almost idle during stutters at 30-45%. My CPU is 15% total load but thread one is 80% and the other 11 threads are mostly below 30% or idle.
I feel like for this sim to have any potential in the future, they really need to figure out a way to stop the sim being limited by one main thread. Hopefully DX12 will make a huge impact here, I have an Ryzen 3900X which isn’t exactly a slouch when it comes to even single core performance, but its limited to 30-35fps in the airliners due to main thread issues, which is a shame!
Try turning some CPU bound stuff down like the cockpit refresh rate. This sim is heavily cpu bound.A cpu with higher IPC would give you better performance. The 5950x is like 5-10fps ahead of the 3900x which is probably not worth upgrading to.
I am running a lackluster i5 8400 so I am heavily cpu bound even @3440x1440 its so stuttery with airliners!
For those defending the smoothness performance, please, check this review in Guru3d. It shows how Asobo has to improve a lot the coding and the api to dx12 to have better performance.

We hope that with the xbox in mind and dx12 they will improve the pc and vr performance. The simulator is very promising but it lacks performance.
and an already existing discussion thread related to this link can you find here
That’s fine… and although since the last update MSFS runs a bit better,
(now il really locks the frame rate as it is supposed to do),
I sincerely hope that Asobo - Microsoft are looking this…
Hello all, I just recently downloaded this through xbox game pass for PC, they had a special in late february for $1 so I said why not. I am having struggling issues with the sim. I have it set to the lowest settings in the sim and it does not work as smooth as I thought it would. here are my computer specs. hopefully someone can help me out.
CyberpowerPC GLC2420
Msi bazooka B250M motherboard
Intel Core i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz
16GB RAM
Windows 10
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB dedicated video ram
1TB mechanical HDD for installation source
running windows on 256gb m.2 nvme drive
spectrum internet according to speedtest by ookla 400+Mbps download and 20Mbps upload
i can share all my settings in game and whats on my computer i just dont know what else to put on here. please help
when in the sim i open task manager and everything is running at 10% and the RAM is running at 85-90%
If you can squeeze the game on to your NVMe SSD even just to try it you could find out if thats the major bottleneck. I suspect the graphics card will be pretty limiting too. If you turn on Developer Mode in the game, you can turn on the performance statistics and start chasing down whether its CPU or GPU which is most constraining. 10% on your CPU is the average across all the cores, probably 1 (running Mainthread) is flat out.
I turned on developer mode but I don’t see where the “performance statistics” that you are referring to. Also I’d have to upgrade my nvme drive because it says it only has 1.2GB free and this sim is 150gb ![]()
So I did notice some drastic results when changing the settings in the options>general>graphics. I changed it to display mode (windowed) and full screen resolution to 1920x1080. And changed the frame rate limit on the advanced settings to 30fps. It is a much noticeable improvement. Now I am running the game on ultra preset for the global rendering quality and it is much better. Some people might say there is micro stuttering. But from what I was seeing before this is a huge difference. I might add I am using a 43” Vizio tv as a monitor. And the windowed screen is about 21” so maybe getting a 27” gaming monitor would do this game a lot better for me
To turn on FPS display in developer settings (Options → General → Developers → enable Developer mode → new menu bar appears → Options → Display FPS).
The horrible window that appears then shows you wish of the various different calculations and the GPU are taking up the time in each frame
If you search on this forum for the various words that appear like ‘limited by main thread’ you will find loads of advice on what those mean and how to tune your settings
OK, so experiment with your display settings. I wouldn’t expect you to be able to play in 4K with your setup, so 1920x1080 is sensible. Ultra is too high for your graphics card, I recommend searching the forum for the huge amount of advice on tuning so that you get to a playable compromise
That’s probably what you’re talking about..
What monitor are you using? That GPU is barely going to cut it and you should not be getting issues on the lowest settings.
The software is not well optimized atm and I’d imagine it will be worse on lower end hardware.
