Drzewiecki Design Announces Washington Landmarks for MSFS

I did as well. Had the ORBX Meigs scenery. Just an amazing little airport to practice pattern work with touch and go. I used to also practice flying the bell 206b from Meigs to the tops of towers in downtown Chicago. Would love to see some oil rigs to land on in choppy water for a challange in MSFS when choppers come aboard

This is great looking scenery??? Copied from X-Plane 11… Give me a brake :joy:

And now you see. I wrote about this before. Their intention is to make basic sim and than you have to PAY huge amount of money for add-ons. So you have EXACTLY the same situation as with P3D and X-Plane. Exactly the s.a.m.e. situation.

I must admit that environment lightning and clouds is really better than in P3D and X-Plane but still overall looking is like cartoon… About whole world. It’s whole but mostly very bad MESH !

give me a BREAK, just FYI

go and play your X box ok?

You guys know that you can download many free landmarks from third party websites? They are usually good and they are free too. I’ve downloaded many, like Sydney Harbor Bridge and they improve game look significantly.

I don’t understand paying for buildings. Let alone 15 euros, but I guess flight simmers love to be ripped off (especially when they just copy and pasted from X-Plane).

ORBX already showed they didn’t care with London Landmarks.

Planes however? Yeah, I can get behind paying 40-60$ for a good aircraft. Any more than that is a ripoff.

Huh. Now I see why there was a strange absence of DC landmarks during Alpha. The buildings should have still been added by Asobo out of the gate. There’s still room for projects like this to be sold over the default scenery. We shouldn’t have to buy an add-on for any scenery if the tools that Asobo and Blackshark use can create the default world as we have now.

I’ve never left NZ, and I took the closing of Meigs personally.

I imagine many a flight simulator fan did to be honest.

I used to hang out by the Adler Planetarium, and watch the planes take off and land over my head. Best seat in the house, lol.

I boycotted going to the city for years after the close. A little melodramatic, and completely ineffective at changing the outcome of course, but I was young and ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– . :joy::joy::joy:

Just do what I do, pretend its someone else with class

Drzewiecki Design? :joy::roll_eyes: The same developer that sold the New York pack in X-Plane with lots of buildings that were floating in the air. Their response paraphrased ā€˜there’s lots of buildings, 5% that aren’t right is ok’. The same Dev that wouldn’t release an Ortho patch for New York because they were conceted enough to believe their ā– ā– ā– ā–  supplied orthos were good enough. Actually I suspect the real reason for it was that the Obj. files for their many hundreds of buildings were done in random bunches and not individual buildings, so it would never have worked. They never bothered to fix it.

The same devs who basically ignored the frame crippling night lighting at Chicago O’Hare to the point of basically denying it.

I saw a post asking what the performance was like for their MSFS Moscow Landmarks, another rehashed scenery pack from X-Plane. The response ā€˜We’ ve heard the performance is good, why not try it’. Why not try it? What, don’t you know what it’s like yourselves? Don’t you have some example benchmarks to give an indication? Well dodgy, but hardly surprising.

And now, more rehashed old assets chucked together and kicked out the door to go on sale under the banner of ā€˜mediocre’?

Wake up people. This new sim is taking things to a new level, so why are some just stuck in their ways willingly paying for and accepting any old thing that’s thrown at them irrespective of how good it is because ā€˜it’s better than default’ . If we don’t start rejecting sub standard addons and demanding ones that really enhance the sim, progress isn’t being made, and they will just churn out the same old junk by the bucket full like they have in previous sims. Each to their own though but I’d rather support the devs out there who are producing good stuff, even if that means going without some landmarks and buildings. Each to their own though.

I second this. And unfortunately there are more ā€œdevsā€ coming up with low quality scenery and asking a high price. Yesterday a scenery of a German airport appeared on Simmarket and was withdrawn a few hours later, after it came up that the dev used HERE images without having a license. Add. the scenery was of a very low quality but did not prevent him asking 17 Euro for it.

because thats what everyone wants to do. search out and install individual landmarks.

the problem is people willingly accepting asobo’s dropping of the ball. again.

if the basic landmarks were in the sim (like they always have been) i doubt anyone would bother buying these addons, no matter the quality.

Do you have any recommended links for the free addons? New to flight siming here and really enjoying the exploration aspect as I love to travel and so it’s great to revisit places I’ve been so would be nice to flesh out a few of the more obvious landmarks - like Sydney Harbour Bridge.

I don’t mind paying a fair price for addons (in any game/sim) if a modder wants to charge, given that someone will have had to put their time into making it. However reading these threads does give me the impression that flight sim modders do like to charge a lot more often and a higher price than, say, Racing Sim modders.

I bought the Orbix London pack immediately and was initally really pleased as it fleshed out Canary Wharf but then really disappointed when I got down to Tower Bridge and the floating House of Commons. Whatever their reputation in the past for you experianced users, its left a first time buyer like me really weary given it was in an official marketplace and so giving the impression it had a seal of approval on quality.

If it’s not in marketplace it does not exist for me

I know, it was intended as a tongue-in-cheek answer to your original post. What I was trying to say is that I donā€˜t think that people buy this addon just for 4-5 landmarks but because they want a realistic representation of the city, which is what they get. Itā€˜s a huge improvement and also would be if those few landmarks were present in MSFS. But yeah, to each their own.

Had the same issues with Seattle City and airports scenery. Floating planes, MIS-matched terrain, ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  frames. No fixes and essentially put them both in the bin. Hopefully there are some standards on marketplace titles to reduce the number of mediocre titles. Wait, Carenado is already there. Oh well. (Couldn’t resist, sorry)

I first complaned about the lack of landmarks in DC few weeks back now I know why they did such a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  job with something that should have been in there by Default, for all MS bragging about how great and accurate city’s were now we know the truth…GREED it’s MS so of course I got stuck with 2 copies they refused to refund me. Now they a nickel and dimeing everyone with stuff that should have been included…and you wonder why people are ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ?

Just checking in here since I’m the DC-area resident guy who’s been complaining since December about the default DC scenery. Been dealing with other stuff the past couple of days but… I’ll be picking up the Drzewiecki version later today. Happy to have my adoptive hometown to fly over and not really exercised about the cost. I do a lot of local flying so it’s worth it to me and unlike in FSX/P3D, I don’t anticipate having to buy lots of global add-ons just to get the sim to acceptable levels. So there are cost savings overall.

I was initially upset about the lack of default DC landmarks, but on reflection, I can see why it didn’t happen, at least not initially. DC isn’t going to be a photogrammetry city because security theater prevents the necessary overflights. And it makes economic sense to me that Asobo, with a full plate, decided to let the AI try its best before deciding to hand-model anything. Anywhere that the AI succeeds, that’s a piece of work you don’t have to do. Clearly in DC, the AI wasn’t up to the task, though it was, um, inventive…

I could live without the inclusion of political figures - always thought that was a naive move by an overseas developer that understandably doesn’t grasp how polarized things are. From a business standpoint, never a good idea to risk alienating half your customer base. That cuts both ways, BTW. But I figure there’s a workaround - I just won’t fly through the windows of any Federal buildings, and it’ll all be good.

There’s a workaround for everything!

Hint: MS/Asobo don’t see a penny from this addon.
I wonder why everyone assumes that Asobo left out the landmarks intentionally to get more money with it while at least in this case they are not involved.
One could argue if MS gets a share from the sales in the Marketplace (e.g. from ORBX London Landmarks), but it’s not the case here.
